1080p vs 1080i? Resolution problem
« on: April 11, 2014, 11:56:52 AM »
Hey guys, I haven't been playing nwn in a while, but with the easter event I'm back and it's good to see everyone again.  :D

Now onto the point. I got a new tv and I'm trying to get the game run on it. What happens is the game does have the 1920x1080 resolution in it, but when I play the game, it's 1920x1080i. Which turns the image too big and gets a weird yellow tint. I managed to find this option in the nvidia control pannel as well and actually see the difference between 1920x1080i and 1920x1080p. P doesn't make the image bigger than the screen (so nothing is out, like for example in nwn only a part of the action bar was visible), while i does. Now my question is.. how do I fix my nwn to support 1080p? Is there a patch or anything? I've searched with little luck. Also found nothing on the forums.
Thanks in advance
May your spirit return to the world of the living next spring.

1.69 was the final patch to the game. It is no longer supported.

It sounds like it's an issue with your TV, though. I run the game in 1080p on my monitor and don't have the issues you're describing.

What Windows are you running?

I'd play a little with the Launch properties for the game itself (by right-clicking and selecting 'Properties' on the nwn shortcut). You can try setting its compatibility to Windows XP (Service Pack 3) and ticking the option 'Disable display scaling on high DPI setting'. Might help.

I have seen the issue you are describing on HDMI to HDTV set ups with NWN. I don't fully understand the problem, either.
You will likely have to settle for a custom resolution to fix your issue and lose a bit of real estate.
Resize to something like 1824x1028 and lose a tad of resolution depth. I don't remember if you have to modify the hexidecimals of the executable after doing that or not. You may have to if you get weird crashes during rendering.

The difference between 1080p and 1080i is in the refresh rate and how each frame is displayed.  I know my Neverwinter Nights lists resolutions that have "60hz" or "75hz".  I don't know if this can be different depending on your system or drivers or anything, but that's where I'd look first.  1080i is going to be 30hz, and 1080p is going to be 60hz.
