I have a new batch of problems. So far, I absolutely loathe, despise, and venomously HATE windows 8. And no, it isn't just the start button that's pissing me off.
I have found no support online through the proper channels, because every relevant question, everyone just answers with "why do you hate it? you're just ignorant." (paraphrased) Here's what I need it to do:

(A) I need a word processing system like office or works, that isn't just wordpad. I am unable to get this installed, even from the "app store" because of the following series of problems.
(B) I have downloaded a program I need for school.

When i go to run the install, it pops up:

1. When I click Yes, it takes me to this website where i am instructed to download a tool to validate my version of windows. I do this, enter the code, click validate, and i am taken to a page where i am to download two files for windows media player. ( see this image for more information ). And this, too.
2. I download the files. It doesnt exactly tell me what to do with them other than "Run" them, so I assume they don't go anywhere special.
3. When i run the installs on the two files I downloaded, this pops up:

From my understanding, this is because windows8 does not support windows media player and its platforms. This is preventing me from running the programs I need for school, playing the dvd's required for my textbooks, and enjoying the computer like a normal person and watching a movie.

Does anyone know how to trouble shoot this?

My second problem is more basic than that.

1. MS Paint. I have it. I know I have it because I used it to re-size the files I posted above. But I cannot access it without right clicking on an image and selecting "Edit".

2. Printscreen. Ok. I figured it out, BUT it works great unless I am in NWN. WHen I take screen shots in NWN, I get nothing but a black screen. Thoughts?

3. Wheel Button: In NWN, you should be able to use your wheel click to change the camera angle. This wont enable on my computer, regardless of setting, but it will on my previous computer using windows 7. Is this a problem with nwn being compatible with windows 8?

4. Upgrading to 8.1: It seems its "not available on my computer" since I am unable to find an appropriate download when prompted from the app store. Also, downgrading to windows 7. Is this possible? I have been researching it, and it sounds like it flat out isn't possible anymore.

thanks for whoever decides to help me. My early gray hairs appreciate it.

That's... not normal. I don't even know. A google search isn't bringing up that particular error message. Very, very confusing.

FACTORY RESTOOORE! Where'd you get it? That message reeks to me of some weird pirated 3rd party copy of Windows 8.

You can reset Windows 8 to factory settings as one of the options.  You might want to try starting over with a fresh reset that way before giving up.  It takes about an hour.

Got it from a pawn shop. think its worth it?
Edit: I should say a reputable pawnshop. They have a large chain and i even have a 6 month warranty. These are good people with good products. I was never unhappy before, but the computer i picked out was supposed to have windows 7 on it.

Well that was the final straw. I lost every last bit of work I've done for school, and have 28 minutes to replace it all. Because of an error. Looks like I am taking this thing back.

Alright. Nothing anywhere has windows 7 on it anymore, except a few laptops at the pawnshop which are so bad, I may as well not even bother, and continue to use the duct taped wonder that I gave to my cousin.

How does one try factory restore? I am ready to get radical here.

Don't you folks have like a store where you choose what computer components, OS, etc you want in your PC and then have them assemble it for a fee?

Consider my whining at an end. I took the computer, a Toshiba Satellite 755 that was a great computer, BACK to the shop, enacted my warranty, and exchanged it for an Asus with twice the capacity, a triple core instead of a quad core, and a lot more outside damage to the case. It works beautifully, it runs just as well, the only problem is it isn't a Toshiba.

But that's not whats important. What is important is that it operates on Win7. And THERE IS MUCH REJOICING!!

TBH I'd take an Asus over Toshiba any day.

It is a nice computer so far. Very nice. and I do get the speed of windows8, I honestly do. But I think I may be an old man mentally, and afraid of change.

Ha. ok. so the Asus didn't work out for me. I wasn't able to do any art on it, or run nwn, or anything that required it to use it's graphics card. So today I took it back, and upgraded to a beast. its a Toshiba Satellite L875D-S7332, 8GB Ram, dual core processor, decent graphics card (AMD Radeon HD 7520G), so on and so forth. It has windows 8 on it, but unlike the first Toshiba I bought (the 755), It runs the programs I need it to, and downloads the programs I need it to.

The problem is now, when I start up NWN, it crashes the entire computer.

I have tried to change the compatibility, disabled shiny water, re-installed the drivers, and played around with all the settings I can thin of. So, any ideas?

I stumbled upon this thread in a google search, but it didn't yeild any gold.

Try change name EXE: nwmain.exe -> nwmain_game.exe.

If it works for You:
1) ATi drivers has hardcoded something for "nwmain.exe"
2) ATi/AMD drivers are simply piece of sh*t.

Go to your NWN folder and give that a try.

If that doesn't work, we'll need some more info to work on than just crashing. Blue Screen of Death? Or does the game lockup visually but sounds continue? Does it crash to desktop or just lock up? Can you force-quit it?

The Screen freezes up, and then I am taken to A blue screen that states my computer is being restarted. I never even make it in game. Also, when i tried to put a "nwnmain.exe" shortcut on my desktop, it also crashes it in this manner. I'll give that fix a shot.

I can't completely make out the error code from that picture.
