Dying on LvL 3
« on: August 09, 2013, 05:02:08 AM »
"A minor XP hit on lower lvls"

I just lost a level from not going around for hours looking for people to raise me.

Do we really need a exp hit combined with that silly DC 90 roll on bleeding on such a low level?

While I agree it can feel a bit heavy at times, at least that third level is easy enough to get back when you're only level 2. Maybe the save dc could be lowered based on your level? It could start at 80 or something and increase by 1 for every level, making death really scary at level 20 unless you pack some serious constitution. That's probably a bad idea though...

Not if you are a ECL race and not much for dungeoneering.

Ouch, yea, you're right. Didn't think about that, the subrace ECL puts things in a new perspective.

Ouch. Remember you were pretty excited at getting that level.

Option to simply pass away when bleeding would be nice.

There is that option already. I believe it's @letgo? It tells you as much when you go down.

[Shrugs] Horror setting, its hard, Stay inside, group up, Carry enough gold on you to raise you, Know your limits, Remember Your New PC is Squishy.

The game doesn't seem to be the problem here.

+1.

And a few tips for success in nwn:

1.) All of the above.
2.) Doors and corners are friends.
3.) Identify goals and accomplish them.
4.) Always know your retreat.
5.) Learn how to kite, ambush and group up enemies for arcane or divine magic.
6.) Pick a role and identify with it.

Expertise + Improved Expertise is amazing for a tank when the rest of the party knows what they're doing.

Improved Knockdown is also a godsend to them.

Good fighters have a strategy to them.  It's simple, but very important.

You are either a STR-based tank,
or you are a balanced jack of trades with a few aces.

You have to know how to defend before you attack.

AC, saves, and attack bonus are the highest priorities.

And always make sure you have a weapon suited to your surroundings.

If you are getting whipped on, pull out a shield and a one handed weapon.

If you are confident, use a two-hander.

Always keep a bow, crossbow or sling handy.

A lot of things is discussable. I know we are told to "team up" but when we have characters with very few friends/allies and with personalities that do not fit to join up random adventure group from point A to B....I rather keep to the character than break it.

I will say this: On this server, XP is not a river. It's more like a small trickle, or someone peeing upstream. Losing a level is no small thing.

Losing a level at 4 or below is no big deal easy as to make that level back dungeon and RP for a day and you'll be sweet and at like 5 or above you "should" have had enough RP to team up, do deliveries or be string enough to go fight something.
