Regarding harassment
« on: August 02, 2013, 12:43:52 PM »
Dear fellow community members and roleplayers,

Here at POTM, we have always held that we should all strive to be as excellent to each other OOC as much as we are scheming against each other and antagonizing when IC. We aren't just a roleplay server, but also a community.

Therefore, it is with much dissatisfaction that we have learned that some players have been personally harassed by others to an extend far beyond what can be considered as joking or simple disagreement - but instead signifies outright malice and bullying. This has taken place on a a specific chatroom on Skype. While we normally hesitate in policing mediums outside of what we have established here, there comes a point in which stepping in is necessary to preserve the well-being of our community. Thus, when these cases of harassment come to our attention, we feel it is our responsibility to address it and act.

Let it be clear - the team does not tolerate harassment, stalking or provocative behavior of any sort that leaves other players feeling this is not a safe environment.

When the above is violated, the team will not hesitate to hand out bans. Personal harassment that extends into people's private lives is not a matter the team takes lightly, even if done in jest, and we have issued a ban for the most obvious recent incident (thankfully, we expect this to be the only one we have to issue).

But we also wish to address the broader issue that this case was a culmination of - namely, the slandering and general negative back talking that apparently takes place among some players.

Remember that you all have a responsibility to hone and nurture this community - and that the community is the foundation for this place's very existence. There will always be other players that frustrate you, but brooding over it, slandering them or openly provoking them will not make them go away. Rather, it'll just make you direct a lot of attention to them rather than to the roleplay you came here to enjoy. And it injects negativity into the community that we don't need, no matter if it is justified or not. Strive to be excellent to each other, even when you disagree - because this remains the best way to avoid the disagreements growing beyond what can be readily solved or simply ignored.

We all hate drama. Help us minimize it so we can get back to roleplaying.

Thank you for reading.

- The DM team.

I am sorry to report we've had another incident similar to the one that prompted the above post, only it was much worse.

It was brought to our attention that Badelaire had been accessing the website known as "Fetlife" and trying to find members who also played here, then sharing explicit photos and other revealing personal information to other players in an attempt to humiliate and denigrate these individuals. This is beyond unacceptable. We here at PotM value community and friendship, and Badelaire's actions are in violation of everything we stand for. As a result, he has been permanently banned from this community. To those of you whose privacy he violated, I am deeply sorry that this has happened to you.

I do not believe that this will be the end of this incident, either. If anyone experiences any sort of harassment from Badelaire or those claiming to speak on his behalf, please notify the DM team immediately. I would also suggest contacting the authorities as this sort of harassment is now taken seriously.
