Crafting Addition suggestion: Cold-Forged Iron Ammo
« on: July 18, 2013, 08:18:34 PM »
Request: new crafting recipe
Crafts: Smelting, Smithing, Woodworking

Cold-Forged Iron-Tipped Arrows, Bolts, Bullets (Crafted)

2 iron ingots + 'Cold Iron Arrowhead mold' = Cold-Forged Iron Arrowhead
2 iron ingots + 'Cold Iron Bolt Tip mold' = Cold-Forged Iron Bolt Tip
1 iron ingot + 'Cold iron Bullet mold' =  Cold-Forged Bullet

The mold would be something you buy. 2x as expensive as other arrow, bolt and bullet patterns (as per D&D book rules)

Optional: Perhaps to add to the rarity / challenge these can only be made in the "Cold Forge" placeables? There are a few scattered about but they are not in every Smithing area

DC: would be slightly higher then Iron ammo, but lower then Steel. DC 22-23
If memory serves I think Iron Arrows are DC 20 and Steel is 25

I don't recall off hand the stats for the bolts or bullets but the arrows are~
Special Properties:
Damage Bonus vs.: Outsiders 1d4 Damage
Bludgeoning

I would suggest something more along the lines equal to silver tipped arrows.

+1 Piercing
+1d6 divine against outsiders

Or even +2 piercing
+1d6 divine damage against Outsiders, as most outsiders that these might be used against have a +2 DR moddifier, so would need to be +2 to aid in piercing.

This might be a little powerful, if it only requires standard iron ore, though. Perhaps another ingredient could be added to the recipe to make it rarer.

Could forged stuff doesn't do divine damage though. It's mundane damage versus outsiders.

Most demons have damage reduction ##/Cold Iron, in D&D rules (so Cold Iron weapons penetrate). As NWN can't do this, we have to improvise. An arrow that does +1d4 bludge to outsiders ends up doing NOTHING to an outsider, as 1d8+1d4 will bounce off most demon/devils damage reduction.

I'm only suggesting divine damage to follow suit with how they got around this with lycanthropes and silver. Nothing is immune to divine damage, so you'll always get your bonus damage. Else you won't even pierce their DRs

I see.

Well as long as it does 1d4 damage I'm happy.

BTW the existing cold-iron forged arrows you may find in a loot drop- that is what they do. 1d4 bludgeoning to outsiders.

just like how the crafted copper arrows do 1d4 damage to fay

that would be great though if we could add a holy water to 'hollow tips' (I.E. the alchemical template just renamed 'hollow')

so the plain would do 1d4 and the hollow ammo could do 1d4 + +1d6 divine against outsiders
