O wonder!
How many goodly creatures are there here!
How beauteous mankind is! O brave new world,
That has such people in't.

"Day Walker"

Chapter I
Dhampir

What alternative was there?
There simply was no other choice by comparison.
There was no other way.
It was destined;
Fate.

Home is where the heart is,
after all.

Enter, then, one precocious youth.
Oblivious, and content.
How curious, that. O how very curious.

Some would call it serendipity.
Others, however, of a certain inclination,
of a certain disposition, well they might call it something else entirely.
Attributed to cosmic algebra and geometries beyond the ken of man.
They might call it mercy.

The world was dying.
The days were heavy. Suffocating.
Anywhere you went was the oppressive air.
Chaffing, drying.
Men were husks.
The vibrations were all wrong...

They were killing us,
and we worshiped them.

We were their slaves.

"Day Walker"

Chapter II
Dark Deco

Staring from the shadows I inhabit.
There's a glimmer up ahead.
Of all the times I dreamed it,
I always end up dead.

If but for once upon my life,
if I could make amends,
there's never been a moment so right,
as to step into the light.
My father.. ?

That is the question, after all.

If only I could tell you true. All I have are my observations.
My personal dealings. My childhood. My life, really, up until this moment.
The way you are looking at me, like you already know him...

Perhaps you do.

If but for naught else, congratulations! You've made it!

Here we are now.
Commemorate it.

"Day Walker"

Chapter III
Starchild

The way things are now...
you wouldn't believe how they used to be.

How much my father has accomplished in such a short span.
A human life is such a passing thing, in comparison... yet the black art, the magic, the witchcraft,
have men bound and captivated.
Few look beyond the veil, and indeed, mock the notion.
They have been trained well; Like dogs,
by the right hand of my father.

But my father is not our creator, no,
he is not our God.

He is vanity, whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood.
+

-
Who am I, then?
I've been fighting to know myself...

Such irony that in a time of such unprecedented gnosis,
we have never been stranger children.

Spoiler: show

I remember the deep.
I spent a lifetime there, before the coming of the light.
It was a cosmic horror eat cosmic horror kind of world,
an endless cycle of death, and rebirth.

And then the tides parted,
and He came:

The Truth.

He split the tide, beyond was glimpse of such beauty as I have never known.
He came as a stallion, pure white, with a horn betwixt His brow.
I can never forget.
The Unicorn pierced me in my side, and though I screamed from many mouths,
He pulled me to the surface, and I was free.
Behind was an ocean of blood, with no horizon,
and ahead were trials and tribulations.

That is the day I was born from flesh, in to spirit,
on the back of a unicorn.

In the time of my father on earth...

He that teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight;
I come to share this blessing, if you will but see, beyond these three dimensions.

Daniel 4

The dream is fulfilled.
...
28 All this came upon the king Nebuchadnezzar.
29 At the end of twelve months he walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon.
30 The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?
31 While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee.
32 And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.
33 The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws.

34 And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation:
35 And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?
36 At the same time my reason returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, mine honour and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellors and my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added unto me.
37 Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.

Swiftly.

We don't have much time!

Such words echoed from the caverns below,
labyrinth in nature. From outside, you could see the way to the other side,
but from within...

You got lost.

They didn't have much time. They knew what was to come.

"The doors closing! We have to make it!"

An ancient rumbling shook the temple, adding a touch of madness to the panic as they raced through the honeycomb passages.
They were lost, but forging full speed ahead.
The light was fading, the door was closing.
The darkness began to chitter around them.
They ran. They ran.
Just as the darkness began to numb her limbs, just as she would have just fell, the door was before them, ancient and rumbling as it was near to close.

He picked her up,
and they ran;
together.

They weren't gonna make it.
They weren't gonna make it.

He wouldn't let her go.
He couldn't make it alone...

The door was closing.
The door was closing.

The door was.

Chapter VI
Bloodlines

I know.

I never talk about my mother.

Its not an easy subject for me, how can you talk about someone you only ever dreamed?
I suppose its one of my greatest, well, only regrets. If that makes any sense.
I don't like to dwell, believe it or not.

I remember she would sing to me when I was very young...
but I can't recall the words;
only the feeling.

Such like anywhere I went,
or anything I did,
she would be right there waiting for me.

At the end.

With a big smile and a big kiss.

"Day Walker"

Chapter VII
Skald and Shadow

"What do you do with the names you are given?"
A symphony of voices.
"Kill them all."

"Why must you do so?"
A single voice.
"You told us to."

All eyes were on Argali, but No-one dared speak.

"To maintain Order, fey-child..."

There was silence.
"Without our efforts, the world will descend back into chaos.
Those we seek threaten the status quo, their names are not random,
it is a small sacrifice to pay for... the land of our fathers."

His eyes bored; painfully. He pointed.
"You, come." Argali came.
When she was before him, he presented an ornate dagger.
"Take this." She accepted, curious, then they brought the man out.
He was already begging and pleading. Argali's eyes went wide.
No-one pointed at the man as they bound him to a fixture.
"Kill him."

Argali hesitated, No-one smiled.
"Though you are top of the class," he looked over the auditorium, "you have but one glaring weakness..."
Argali stared at her first target. This was not an assessment, this was for real.
"Your ability is superb, but your instinct... is lacking." He offered a hand for the dagger back.
Argali hesitated. She knew it was true. She couldn't see the man as an enemy.
It was easy killing her classmates; this was different. He couldn't even fight back.

"Argali."
She almost didn't recognize her Academy name, it took a moment, but she turned to Him, he had his hand out.
She turned back to the sacrifice, who had gone quiet, and pale.
Her father chose that name...

She turned to No-one, and when she met his eyes, a quiet rage filled her, and she whipped the dagger blindly, end over end to her right.
There was a sickening thunk, followed by fervored whispering in the auditorium.
The sacrifice slumped to the floor with the dagger buried deep in his eye; his tongue rolled grotesquely.

Argali never saw him, her eyes were on No-one.

"She is rebellious, and quite possibly... a liability."

"Jondyle,"  the boy listened, intent.
"you know what to do."

Jondyle smiled handsomely.
"Whateva ya say,"
He was already kneeling, so he bowed.
"Masta."

The Living Word

Faith,

it makes all the difference in the world.

The birthing;
through the water and the spirit:

Baptism.

By means which the flesh is reborn in to spirit,
and cast free of all earthly shackles.

Whereby all will bow before the glory of the word of the one true living God.
For He is a living God, existing at all times. In all places.
Never changing and never failing.
The measure by which truth and beauty are attributed.
Not any witchcraft or false doctrine.

Chapter IX
Emergence

She fell before she sank,
she sank before she swam.

She crawled before she walked,
and she walked before she ran.

She flew before she soared,
she soared before she burned;

and as she fell back to the earth,
she wondered what she learned.

Time was of the essence.

Behind the train rumbled off into the distance.
Ahead was the Gardes Manor. It was heavily guarded.
They had two and a half weeks to scope the place out and steal the artifact.
They didn't need that long.

It was almost midnight.

A sortie of dark figures filtered swiftly through the streets.
This was their first big job. They needed to work together,
they trained for this:

Years.

They hurried.
It was almost midnight.

She was flawless.

Chapter X
Ever After

Maudlyn stared out over the waters.
They were still but for the celestial winds that stirred them that chill evening.
She gathered her cloaks. Lights from the lodge across the lake twinkled like a not so distant star.
The sun wouldn't be long; An hour or so. She had seen it from this vantage many times before.
The elf adjusted her pipe to the other side of her mouth, staring hard at something not quite there.
She dreamed.

Colors.
Sounds.
Shapes.

They raged within her mind.
She could see footprints upon the sand.
Two pairs.

Dancing.

She stood fast upon her rock,
and nothing moved her,
though she was tested by every element.

Any Thing you could imagine.

Time drew near.
She could feel it in her bones.

Word Study

Zechariah

Call for national repentance.
1  In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the Lord unto Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying,

2  The Lord hath been sore displeased with your fathers.

3  Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Turn ye unto me, saith the Lord of hosts, and I will turn unto you, saith the Lord of hosts.

4  Be ye not as your fathers, unto whom the former prophets have cried, saying, Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Turn ye now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings: but they did not hear, nor hearken unto me, saith the Lord.

5  Your fathers, where are they? and the prophets, do they live for ever?

6  But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not take hold of your fathers? and they returned and said, Like as the Lord of hosts thought to do unto us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, so hath he dealt with us.

The horsemen among the myrtles

7  Upon the four and twentieth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Sebat, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the Lord unto Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying,

8  I saw by night, and behold a man riding upon a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle trees that were in the bottom; and behind him were there red horses, speckled, and white.

9  Then said I, O my lord, what are these? And the angel that talked with me said unto me, I will shew thee what these be.

10  And the man that stood among the myrtle trees answered and said, These are they whom the Lord hath sent to walk to and fro through the earth.

11  And they answered the angel of the Lord that stood among the myrtle trees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest.

12  Then the angel of the Lord answered and said, O Lord of hosts, how long wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which thou hast had indignation these threescore and ten years?

13  And the Lord answered the angel that talked with me with good words and comfortable words.

14  So the angel that communed with me said unto me, Cry thou, saying, Thus saith the Lord of hosts; I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.

15  And I am very sore displeased with the heathen that are at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction.

16  Therefore thus saith the Lord; I am returned to Jerusalem with mercies: my house shall be built in it, saith the Lord of hosts, and a line shall be stretched forth upon Jerusalem.

17  Cry yet, saying, Thus saith the Lord of hosts; My cities through prosperity shall yet be spread abroad; and the Lord shall yet comfort Zion, and shall yet choose Jerusalem.

Four horns and four carpenters

18  Then lifted I up mine eyes, and saw, and behold four horns.

19  And I said unto the angel that talked with me, What be these? And he answered me, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.

20  And the Lord shewed me four carpenters.

21  Then said I, What come these to do? And he spake, saying, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, so that no man did lift up his head: but these are come to fray them, to cast out the horns of the Gentiles, which lifted up their horn over the land of Judah to scatter it.

The measuring line of Jerusalem
2  I lifted up mine eyes again, and looked, and behold a man with a measuring line in his hand.

2  Then said I, Whither goest thou? And he said unto me, To measure Jerusalem, to see what is the breadth thereof, and what is the length thereof.

3  And, behold, the angel that talked with me went forth, and another angel went out to meet him,

4  And said unto him, Run, speak to this young man, saying, Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls for the multitude of men and cattle therein:

5  For I, saith the Lord, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her.

6  Ho, ho, come forth, and flee from the land of the north, saith the Lord: for I have spread you abroad as the four winds of the heaven, saith the Lord.

7  Deliver thyself, O Zion, that dwellest with the daughter of Babylon.

8  For thus saith the Lord of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.

9  For, behold, I will shake mine hand upon them, and they shall be a spoil to their servants: and ye shall know that the Lord of hosts hath sent me.

10  Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion: for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith the Lord.

11  And many nations shall be joined to the Lord in that day, and shall be my people: and I will dwell in the midst of thee, and thou shalt know that the Lord of hosts hath sent me unto thee.

12  And the Lord shall inherit Judah his portion in the holy land, and shall choose Jerusalem again.

13  Be silent, O all flesh, before the Lord: for he is raised up out of his holy habitation.

Chapter XI
Over Mountains & Bridges

All the roads that led the way are winding.
And all the lights that lit the way are blinding..

Eyes alone could not traverse this gulf;
of the imagination if not the soul and very Spirit of creation.

Maybe if there was something to take away, it was that she was not alone,
after all.

She no longer toiled in darkness.
She bathed in light,
and warmth,
and love.

Only God could take that from her;
And if so:
she thanked Him for the mercy she had been given.

Now pray that we make a way!

Forthwith!

Chapter XII
Stonehearts

When hearts of stone collide:
cracks appear to show.

Against the tides of time:
roots begin to grow.

And everything you used to dream;
or even thought to know:

Vanishes against the gleam,
of something new & old.

We are made in His image, so who is He to you?

O Heart of Stone,

Between Two Mountains?

What lies beyond the tides of time?

Wherefore art thou in it?

Love Love Love

Is stronger then death.

Love Love Love

Is stronger than death.

So I have found.

Love.

So I hope.

So I pray.

Every single,

Every day.

Jesus Christ ...
May we fare the way..

Amen.

Chapter XIII
The Story Teller

She had fallen by his hand, twice in one evening...

He mocked the three of them,
those so foolhardy as to forge in to the night with delusions of grandeur.

Argali had seen enough- a deadly pair ravaging Rodica and her hapless Garda upon the wall.
They managed to sound the horn- a single and bleating blast rendering through the Western Outskirts.
Anya and Argali were making their way to the Temple of the Morninglord after a night of mourning, libations, and fellowship.
Father Miklos was dead and there were many still reeling from the sudden weight and reality of it all.
Toasts were shared,
drinks were plenty.

Fate had stock, here, as she raced to aid the Garda embroiled in sudden turmoil!
Unable to get through the gates to aid the local garda- and now fully beyond herself- emotional! She races to find a way around-
That's when they meet:

Face to face.

An Ezran Templar stood before him when Argali arrived, Anya stood fast.

The figure was garbed in black raiment.

He was regal, and imposing.
He seemed to smile as he looked upon the three woman who stood in defiance to his will.
Argali was livid. She bristled with just contained ferocity.
This is what she trained for.

She was a fool,
and followed him right into his trap.

As Argali moved to gain the initiative,
another figure bursted from the shadows!
A deadly duet was performed that left Argali floored- she scarely managed to get to her feet as The Antagonist, himself, pressed her on her last legs,
as his dastardly Shadow Companion moved for better vantage.

Argali had recently acquired a particular curio.. an elixir, if imbided, would restore her immediately to the peak of her condition. She could reset the situation and stay her footing!
She darted away from the mocking vampire:

"Perhaps we should get your fathers!"

He laughed as they gained the upper hand.

Argali fled, and nearly managed to imbibe the elixir- only to be so summarily laid low,
reeling, and left for dead.

The vampire, for he was certainly no man by his abyssal might, found his prey. Though Anya and the Templar
managed to stand their ground as Argali lay sprawled on the cobbles.. bleeding severely.. and fighting just to suffer.

She failed them...

Her breath left her, then,
cold and lifeless,
on the ground.

Ammë

"Wake up, sunshine~"

Maudlyn...
take heart,
for I am with you,
where ever you go.

I will be with you,
until the end of time.

Maudlyn... I love you, Maudlyn.

You must understand.

"I love you forever."

"Day Walker"

Chapter XV
Dereliction

...

Another quiet evening,
but there was no peace to this one.

The solitude began to gnaw at her mind;
her limbs:
grew numb.

She lay in the hammock
and tried not to think
or dream
or scream
or cry.

Another fey mood...

It would pass.
Like all the others,

in to æther.

How long had she lived to feel this Way?

Doubts began to creep,
but silent & faithful,
did she keep.

"Day Walker"

Chapter XVII
Prelude to an End

I sit here waiting,
with pen to parchment,
try hard, don't fake it.

I'm patient.

I'm pacing.

I'm taken.

I'm ancient.

The river flows;
and with it,
I go.

Can't bother to know.
This feeling it grows.
This reeling, it shows.
I'll live I suppose.

Its rather simple,
With God on your side.
I'll walk in the sun,
along with my Pride.
Come whatever decide,
I'm here by your side.
Across the divides,
of time and space.

We'll find our place.
Till then,

I say Grace.

I love your disgrace;
such a beautiful  face...

"Day Walker"
Chapter XVIII
How to Shed Salt
(Or: The New Testament)

"You sweat through your pores,
you cry through your eyes.

Just breathe; and we'll be alright.
"

-Sam G. Crow

" Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. "
-Matthew 5:13

The Mission of the Twelve
...
30   But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
31   Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.
32   Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.
33   But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
34   Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
35   For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
36   And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.
37   He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
38   And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
39   He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.
40   He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.
41   He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.
42   And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.
-Matthew 10:30 - 10:42

Therefore, I am not come to make peace, but war.

And there will be weeping, and gnashing of teeth;
And there shall be no rest for the wicked.

"Day Walker"

Chapter XIX
Second Impact

"One stroke at a time."

Argali flustered, He smiled.

"It is the only way."

That was 23 years ago, to this day.

It seems the ones she loved the most,
annoyed her the easiest.

Such a feral child:

Savage.

Now she only smiled at the memories, and set her face to what was before her.
She had a report to write.. The Storyteller was back, though this time,
she did not fall quite so easily.

No.

Not so easily.

She kissed her crucifix, and began her task.

Quote
Most beloved brothers and sisters,
hear me now.

The Storyteller and his entourage have returned again.
I believe it is coming to a head. If he is called by such a title,
then surely he has a story to tell.

We should speak with him, on neutral grounds,
and see what he has died to say.

May be, it will allude us to some clue,
on how we might stop him;
for good.

Your sister through sickness and health,

-Maudlyn

Chapter XX
Twin Dragons

They were beaten, but not defeated.
This was war,
after all.

[She smiled]
"One stroke at a time."

Though alone, its not remiss,
as we  prepare, for any tiff.

Try they might, to make us fall,
we will stand among so tall.

Those who kneel, will know reward,
a gift is given by my Sword.

For kindred die, and kindred rise,
but Spirit  lasts, beyond all time
.

Rise and shine~ my beautiful race!

Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil:

for thou art  with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

-Psalm 23:4

Chapter XXI
Epilogue
The Beginning

Though I am not you, I will always be with you,
for eternity.

I love you more than we can ever know,
little one.

We are the only  One.
We are the only  One.

From this fact you can not run.

How could they deny it?
How could they hide it?
The shivering in your spine.
The worms inside your mind.

We were born for this,
bred for this:
Shed our tears, we bled for this.

The Promised Land
...
If I could stretch my hand~
I'd follow through;
but in this task,
my need is you.

All this time, inside the dark...
... its time once more,
to find our part.

This place in life,
O where to start:
Yon hark~
Till after dark.
You are that spark.
That trace of life.
That made it through
All pits and strife!
And now I bid you all
Fare well

For in the Heavens I must dwell.

I love you forever.

Goodnight
~
The End
