Changing the apperance of an elven chainmail

I am not able to Change the appearance of an elven chain Suite, are These armours locked or did I something wrong?
(crafting-> Change appearance of ... armour is not in the list when I Ave the chain equipped.

It's locked. Certain items in the game cannot have appearances changed, the staff want to prevent people picking up something like elven mail and crafting it into a skimpy yellow bikini and fish net tights, and still getting the benefit of chain mail. Some of these items let you alter minor pieces like shoes and shins but I think that particular type is totally locked up.

They are working on putting notices in the description of appearance locked items
