Vallaki - Slums - Derelict Hospice
« on: May 25, 2013, 11:10:59 PM »
Candles are left alight in the crumbling hospice lately, its light flickering and showing threw the cracks. A sign of safety in the city gripped by the horrors the night brings. While the hospice crumbles under the pressure of neglect it still offers some comforts. Worn warm beds sit scattered about, the sheets and blankets surprisingly clean for a crumbling abandoned building in the slums.

A fire crackles low, wood stacked off to the side as a pot of some stew or soup sits off on the ledge keeping warm for those who have need. A large wooden basin sits filled with fresh water. Oddly with in the water various leaves and flowers seem to of been dropped in.

All in all the place looks well tended and cared for the best of ones abilities considering the building looks as if it could collapse in on its self at any time.

Once more as night draws in, the chimney over the hospice starts to emit smoke as the fire is stocked and tended by who ever is with in. A lone small figure opens the door, slipping out to light a candle to let others know aid is available.

Some "witches" were seen sulking around the old Hospice recently.

With the recent threat of war and the suffering often accompanying such times a new face has moved into the derelict hospice. A sister of compassion has cleaned up the place and moved in furniture and beds to tend the wounded and sick.

Rumors lurk around Slums about strange man seeking for something inside Hospice. He seemed to be very aggressive and determined, threatening one of nuns with straight razor, knocking out another visitor with huge sap, breaking things inside and causing overall mess. In his rabid anger he has destroyed lot of what sisters did and was so eager to find what he was after that he even punctured pillows and ripped pages out of books. It remains unknown what he was after and did he found it.

Two supplicants of Hala spent the evening cleaning up the mess, mending the ripped curtains and sewing salvageable pages back into the torn books.

The brother of Hala, a rarity in most congregations, took vigil at the door for the rest of the night, holding a wicked-looking bone knife at the ready.

A note was left for the supposed squatter...

A Brother of Hala has been present in the hospice most evenings, making yarn with a drop spindle and awaiting those in need.

New banners flank the door of the healing house, proclaiming it to be The Hospice of the Loom.

The windows are once again warm with the glow of lit candles and stove fires within, and the smell of fresh medicines permeate onto Strada Soloban. A day's worth of renovations by a small crew saw new lumber, rugs, and blankets brought inside the hospice, and a sign mounted by the door welcoming all within.

Once again, the smells of boiling bandages and medicinal tonics can be lead back to the inconspicuous door on Soloban street. While the laughter and raucous debauchery rings out next door, the hospice is filled with it's own clamor and din. Fresh lumber and carts of clean sheets are brought in, as well as food stuffs and crates of bottles and sacks of herbs.

Many people are seen coming and going from the hospice lately while the torch is lit on the front stoop. The place seems to be seeing almost as much visitation as their neighbors...

The door swings open once more, filling the night air with the scent of medicine, and woodsmoke, and a hardy stew on the fire. The quietness of the night lends a peaceful atmosphere, and the orange glow in the windows are inviting as the torch burns brightly at the door, welcoming all to come inside.

[Many more visitors make way to the hospice regularly, and it is rumored that many of them have been leaving wearing the heavy gray cloaks of the Vanguard Initiative. Meanwhile, the hospice has left it's doors open, a stew on the fire, and warm, freshly laundred blankets come through the doors daily. It's said that the road is swept, and even the bugs have less desire to crawl over the cobble and under the stoop.]

[Early in the morning, while many gathered in the hospice for comfort, company, and healing, blood gathered on the cobbles leading down an alley way, thinning under the rain. Suddenly many of the patrons ran into the raining morning, looking for a bird that had flown wildly from the door. Minute later, the door flew off the hinges and, sword in hand, the large healer shouted into the air.]

[The hospice has been a buzz with cleaning, scrubbing, washing, decorating, and cooking. Many come and go to prepare as half a day away, the doors will be open to the public for an open house. Rumors permeate of a bardess, and of course, free food.]

[Today, two recovered bodies were seen being taken from the hospice to the church of the Morninglord by a beautiful man in a red lined cloak. Not long after, the same man and the tall healer, both identifiable as Vanguard, were seen rushing from the hospice to the church and then taking a report of the situation. Though there is no word yet on the recovery of the bodies found or their identity, there is a palpable air of tension as the tall man assumes a more knightly role in getting to the bottom of this. A message is left on their sign.]

Travellers come and go from the hospice, this week like every other. Strangers petition aid, hospitality, and food while, infrequently, some might stay and help offer those simple pleasures and necessities of life. Of the latter, a healer from the Borderwood stays in the hospice, her white veil masking all but her eyes. She assists in offering some comfort to the needy but otherwise tends her own affairs.
