OK so some time in the not too distant future I want to get myself a new gaming machine, but I'm worried about choosing one who's hardware won't be compatible with Neverwinter Nights. Can anyone offer any advice on this quandary?

my best advice? Keep the old computer for nwn only, there's such headaches going on with windows 8/7 running nwn its so not worth it

I haven't had any issues getting NWN to run in Windows 7. What you should do is just copy over your whole installation of NWN from your old computer to your new one, and make sure that you do not put it in the Programs (x86) folder, run it in XP compatability mode and as an administrator. You'll probably have to run the critical rebuild after copying it over, too.

I bought a new computer about 3 months ago and everything runs great! I did however format the harddrive and reinstall windows XP so as far as video cards and such no issues.

I'm running Windows 7 and it's near flawless (aside from thick mists causing slow-downs)

The only problem Ive found so far with Win7 is it doesn't take screen shots, but when I have the time I'll install DX9 from the CD, which hopefull should fix everything,

I didn't think software would be the big issue, I thought there where some video cards who wouldn't let the game run, or was I wrong in being concerned about hardware?

Interesting for me it takes screenshots. And I use win7. Allthough not sure if it is print screen or control+p, and it takes TGA, and it is quite in a hidden(not easy to find) directory.

I'm currently on windows 7 and my screenshots are not saved to a clipboard like they used to be, but they are saved to a directory in neverwinter nights called screenshots. Thanks for the link though.

That has nothing to do with Windows 7. That was changed in the 1.69 patch released in 2008.

Before you buy your video card, be sure to do a quick google search for "<video card> neverwinter nights issue." I got a GTX480 awhile back, and I really wish I had done that search first, since there were some issues with cloaks and framerate. It's gotten better in driver updates, but NWN still runs with a lower framerate than games that have come out well after it. The only issue I have with windows 7 is with alt-tabbing, but that might just be a general nwn issue or something else altogether.
