Question from a potential new player
« on: September 27, 2012, 01:10:55 PM »
Please excuse me if I'm in the wrong place to ask this, but my question is:

Is it allowable to play a character originating from modern day Earth?

I realize many hard core RP servers prefer to stay away from such things, but considering how Ravenloft works, gathering people (even places) from all sorts of settings and worlds, I didn't think it would hurt to ask.

I completely understand if this is refused and will not press the issue further, but I would greatly appreciate a reply from the person(s) in charge so there's no confusion on my part.

Thank you for taking the time to read and consider my question

Tygra.

No, but you are allowed to come from anytime before 1650. :) However, you will not know common, and despite the similarities between say french and high mordentish, they are counted as seperate languages.

hope this helps :)

Thank you kindly for the swift reply!

I will come up with a more appropriate character, glad I asked before character creation and ending up in trouble with the concept :D

You are welcome, :)

The D&D version of Earth is detailed in this thread: http://www.nwnravenloft.com/forum/index.php?topic=21168.0

That thread is by no means complete and is still a work-in-progress, but it does contain a list of published works that you can consult for reference.

I appreciate the feed back, thank you, kindly.

Now... another question, because I honestly don't know if it requires an application, would be acceptable, or simply wouldn't be a good idea in general.

I've played in PnP a character which is, by all rights, human, except for a few minor quirks in her features that gives away some diluted orcish heritage (ie faint green tint to her skin, amber yellow eyes, and a pair a tiny tusks noticeable only if her mouth is open). She's essentially 1/8 orc, though except for a few odd features, is technically human (no stat bonuses or penalties).

Again, before I even attempt to make this character, I'd like a little feed back to it's acceptability. I'd really like to -not- step on any toes XD

Thanks

You could roleplay those features into your character, though you may have a bit of a problem, in game.  You may get confused, to an extent, with a caliban which may lead others to shun you.  But, for many, that is part of the fun. :)  Since your template is human, and you are not mechanically trying to alter that, I don't see any trouble with this character other than what I've mentioned already.

I could be mistaken of course, so best to see what the big cheeses think.  Hehehehehe.
The "Anti-Monk". Crazy is your friend.

It can be done, but to reflect your caliban like appearance might ask for a DM to shift your OCR abit

Once again, I very much appreciate the helpful responses, thank you :)

Still being very new to this server, I'm figuring out exactly how much 'uniqueness' is allowed to be given to a character.

 I'm shy about asking DM's for anything in-game >.>

However... having her OCR raised just enough to cause a more wary/cautious reaction (preferably not out right hostile) with NPC's might be interesting.

I'll wait for a head cahoona to give a stamp of approval or denial before making any more serious decisions on this (that is, of course, assuming HellsPanda is not a DM and already gave permission >.<)

Thanks for putting up with my questions!

I am neither DM nor CC. So take nothing I say as permission, I just give help in an authoritive way, so that people think I am important
