Great excitement and preparations are already underway for tomorrow - the day of celebration of a great Barovian foe and celebration of the life of a hero - Simeun Radkov...

Winter is cold, but the gossip cauldron in the Warehouse District is bubbling with the tale of what looked to be a domestic dispute between two cargo loaders as dusk fell on the Gray City.

The point of contention was wages for hauling several crates of smelly fish from the lodge. The brawny male wanted to take the money for himself, and his equally brawny (female) companion gave him the sharp edge of her abusive tongue. Nevertheless, he eventually had his way and departed her presence with a full purse of fang. Her mournful caterwauling could be heard the rest of the night emanating from the warehouse's darkness.

Some wags report later that evening seeing the would-be dandy in the company of a much more attractive female--no doubt the beneficiary of his sordid gains.

An old, feeble miner arrived at the Crafting Hall leading an ox loaded with tin ingots. The immense quantity attracted attention, and--as he hardly looked capable of so much work himself--he was asked how he came by such a horde. He related the following tale:
Quote
Well, I was up in 'em hillsides in the southern farmlands where I knew there be some ore, but you have to watch for hobgoblins and such. So I was going along cautious like. Lo and behold I finds a couple of 'em bad boys stretched out on the grass with air evil heads lopped off, almost right in front of at cave they call home. All quiet now I ease up to the cave and don't see no sign of the rest. Getting bolder, I take a peek inside and they's all dead! Slaughtered like they deserved, if you ask me. Whoever done it didn't bother to take away any a the tin them monsters had mined, so I helped myself.

The only other clue as to what had happened to the hobgoblin encampment, according to the miner, was a shiny metal object he inspected but because of his superstitious nature left undisturbed on the ground at the cave entrance. He described it as almost like a bronze coin, but not any currency he'd ever come across in Barovia. "Likely varya," the old man muttered while making a gesture.

The entirety of Squad Three is said to have assembled and marched its way out the eastern gate of the city in the early hours of the
30th of October with the Chancellor Nadia Ionelus. Where they go is speculation for now and they not to return until the 13th of November.

[After the opening of the Boritsi Traders Store in the Warehouse District, and the subsequent advertising that they are buying from local crafters, Barovian men and women could be seen lining up to sell their goods all day long. The vast majority of them left with a bag of coin.]

Under the cover of night, a black cat baring no collar with pupil-less eyes sluggishly hung a paper signand string over the crafting hall sign. In a blocky script it reads as follows:

"First she rids you of your tyrant. Your enemy. Then she forbids his name. All good, except your brother said it to spite the man, now he's dead. Did the tyrant do that? Oh, then she kills your beautiful daughter, Rosa, Bianca. Why? Because her name is so much better of course. Idiot. Say hello to being without that beautiful daughter you're hiding. How you would watch her take her first steps, her first words. Or think of your sons, robbed of a chance to become fathers in life! Too bad. Did you know she ordered the exocution of a Vistani? Remember that hanging? That lunatic that slaughtered so many fine men? Some might say yes, that their brother or son now lies dead. All because she ordered a Vistani to death. Still reading? Good! Angry? You have the right to be! It is only a matter of time until the next edict that will make you feel uneasy about her. CASTLE RAVENLOFT's renaming to Castle Lyssa is not a sign of simple vanity. It is an act of War against your ancestors who fought and died to claim and tame this land! An act of War by a woman driven by vanity, and CURSED by vistani!"

The black cat vanished into the night, a misty trail leading to the sewers.

The sounds of shouting and fighting echoed from Warehouse V during the night. Those working the morning shift who were brave enough to peek into the wares hall would have noticed blood spatters tracked across the floor and what seemed to be the remains of a smashed crate against the wall. Some other faint odour permeated the air. At best, it could be identified as burning garbage.

There is much frightened talk today of a massacre occuring in the Warehouse district of Vallaki by some powerful creature, leaving many guards and civilians dead. Whispers speak of large canine claws and tracks in the ground and among the gore, and of a wolf that walked on two legs. Some of the peasantry speak in hushed tones of wolves - and worse - coming down the mountains driven hungry for flesh after the harsh winter.

Panic is slowly beginning to spread among the populace, due to this most recent attack, as well as the talk of an outlander coalition, rumours of sudden and unexplained disappearances, the talk of strange and sinister figures such as 'the midnight raptor', and of course the looming threat of Invidia and the bloody aftermath of the skirmish to the West. Some families have even begun to pack their things and move from Vallaki to stay with relatives in what they believe to be safer villages...
Courage is not the absence of fear, but having the ability to face it.

A man in armor of grey and taupe bore an emaciated woman through the Warehouse District at noon. He carried her like one would a sleeping child as she babbled and sung.

Word spreads that the daughter of the trader Marin Corneliu went bankrupt and sold the Corneliu house in the Warehouse District. It seems that after the dissapearance of her two parents, who kept the bussiness going in the right direction, the woman failed to raise up to her parent's skill in trading, and also spent all of the savings on finding them. She was last seen not long ago exiting her former home, clad in cheap armor and carrying a plain sword and shield, probably the only property she had left, and leaving towards the Western Outskirts. One can only guess what this woman's purpose is now.

OOC: Sorry this is a bit late but real life caught me up in its grip!

====

It was an early morning just after dawn broke when the barely on duty guard horns blared out within the Warehouse district. Three massively large nerui rats that had not returned to their dark sewers at day light were attacking the peasants and guards.

Thankfully only a pair of Barovian women were lost before the figure of a heavily armored Morninglord cultist came in through the south eastern gate and engaged the three rats striding for the guards at the gate. Drawing them a bit away the figure soon recognized by some as Lauel Martovich was seen striking down all three after taking a bit of a beating herself.

However, while after the fight she leaned against Murnu's one wall wrapping her wounds with bandages out of nowhere witchcraft magics sprouted from thin air, impacting the selfless light carrier and knocking her dead before any defense could be raised. A brief glimpse of a humanoid like figure in black hood and robes with a thick build was seen before it vanished again, taking with it the fallen remains and possessions of the light carrier. A few blood splatters would lead down into the sewers within the warehouse gate. But of course no one dared to follow, so where the remains of the fallen light carrier are now is anyone's guess and who took her.

Blood and terror in the streets!  The Beast of Vallaki, which has attacked the outskirts, the forests, the Ezrite temple and more besides, has returned to spread his mayhem and bloody hatred through the warehouse district once again.  Nine were cut down and ripped apart, including a brave outlander whose body was savaged and ripped by claw and hungry fang.

Amidst all the blood and mayhem, there was eventually silence as the monster, some eight feet tall and dripping with blood, carved into the flagstones by the northern gate, three number.  "9" "8" "6".  There is as of yet, no explanation of the digits, but the awful, gorey sight persisted long after the brazen werewolf departed.

A woman going by Subdirector Roche is often seen in the warehouses of Vallaki, dressed in the colors of the Bellegarde Consortium. She keeps to herself, inspecting crates marked with the consortium's sigil.

Gabriel Balcescu has been robbed! The warehouse owner is weighed down by work in the coming week, his ledger of delivery histories for the next several days lost in the aftermath of a dispute with some blue-glowing tigan. Now more than ever, the hard-working man seems stressed, and thin.

Private Dumitru Nistor, A well known face around Vallaki was spotted in his civilian armor carrying the corpse of a woman across his shoulders in the early morn, heading for the citadel.

The corpse of the woman had relatively short ragged brown hair, and looked stout like those who live in the mountains.

None could be certain but the corpse would closely match the description of the Deserter Drasha Lazarescu.

Rest in Peace Dumitru Nistor

A sign is put out the front of Warehouse V, behind the stables: 'Temporary office of Andrei Dalirescu, Novice Clerk of the Citadel'.

An illness seemingly originating from this district spreads, causing severe coughing leading to spitting out blood. Many Barovians become bed-ridden including some of the garda. Although limited in number, it seems similar symptoms have shown up in the market district and the slums as the winter seems to take its toll on the people of Vallaki.

Guardsmen were seen investigating Warehouse V yesterday as it was inspected. Rumor quickly got out that it is suspected the Yellow Death had originated from here. The Warehouse has been declared closed for the time being and trespassing carrying a prison sentence and harsh questioning.

A man in familiar leathers with a Kinship clasp attached to his cloak and a woman in dark boiled armour approaches the Order of Holy Judgement building, pinning a notice to the notice board before leaving shortly thereafter.

A few hours after the sun sinks from the view of the Core, a lone woman, battered and bleeding under the light of the full moon, frantically enters Vallaki's Warehouse III through its creaking, metal door with a pack of very large, snarling, screeching wererats close behind.

A great commotion ensues from within.  The sounds of yelling, cursing, shattering glass, and snapping wood echo through the Warehouse District.

Minutes later, dead silence...

There is a great bounty of activity along the Old Svalich Road in Vallaki tonight as workers come and go from Shop 2 in the Warehouse District.

Numerous laborers carry lumber, stone, and metal into and out of the building, while much banging and sawing can be heard from within...

During the night a hooded figure stands in front of werehouse 2 and gives a short ceremony to a grisly ritual sight. Words that echoed through the night included "Darken the souls" and "for Mother Night" before it ended uninterrupted. and the figure left

Soon, two figures appear outside of Warehouse II during the afternoon. One is hooded and wears a white cloak and white-and-brown jerkin. The other has black hair and wears silver armor with a red tabard.

They scrub up the bloody pentagram with water and brooms, ignite some candles in the shape of a cross, sprinkle the building with holy water, and drizzle more holy water over the spot where the pentagram was. The one in white writes scripture on the door in Common and Celestial as a ward.

Then the duo kneels and prays for some time. Amid their intonations, the following can be heard:

"Cleanse the evil that has intruded here. ... Enforce your victory over corruption and death, and expel the taint of undeath that these witches have brought. For night shall always turn to day. Shadow shall always yield to Light. Evil shall always bow at your name. And you will be victorious."

After some time, they stand, satisfied, and depart.

A commotion is heard at Warehouse 1 as garda and others head there to respond to a horn. Soon after, smoke rises from the building but is quickly put out leaving it a mystery as to what may have gone on there.
