How to start a forum

I'm looking for an easy way to start a forum that doesn't cost any money. I would like it to be easy to manage and minimal maintenance as possible.

I have not made a forum myself, but why not try simple machine, the link is at the very bottom of this forum btw. Though I suspect you should have a good grasp of PHP at the least and likely working knowledge on mySQL.

Me and Tarokka made one once, can not remember the name of the site though. He may know.

I don't have a great deal of knowledge of PHP or MySQL. I am busy with RL work to spend any time with it. I need something real simple and easy to set up. I need to make one for the player base of the guild, I at least owe them that much so they can continue.

I used proboards. So far it seems to be working ok.
Need to get the members to sign up for it.

I have been on a gaming forum for a long time on proboards.com that is run by a handful of gaming enthusiasts.
