Lich Tower
« on: February 16, 2012, 07:23:33 AM »
Recently retested the area to check for any alterations.

Same CR, Same awesome interior, Same Awesome Storyline you can witness yourself, Same crap loot.

CR Vs Loot Ratio is appalling, no wonder it is rarely visited, and so many unfortunate souls miss out on the great work done to remake that place.

That place is insane now. Dont remember if the loot was bad.  Still loved the overall theme.

Elketh and the abberations of his mind-reality sincerely apologise for the absence of an update.

The insects that he has enslaved to do his will are however not wasting their time.

On a similar loot-related note, when visiting the lich tower on high spawn (judging by all the broken ones being Greater) we found all the chests to have DC 47 locks which seems excessive for a mid level dungeon. Our level 10 rogue couldn't open them.

Traps have been an issue since day one it seems, even going back to the original feedback;

As for loot, the /real/ reason to go is HEARTS!

DCs scale based upon the level of the spawn, to a vastly greater degree than I had originally thought. This has been since resolved. Whenever the tower update comes, relatively all of the DCs will have been mitigated to some extent. Elketh has also taken to using steroids.

Also. With regard to the loot - Some people say it is atrocious. Others say it is insane. If you can PM me a short list of what you exactly acquiring from it in totality, it may help to balance the amount that one receives. Also specify the relative level of the spawns.

It was absurdly powerful and could be acquired six times per day. Bye bye!

Saying the "loot is garbage" does not help. What about it is not sufficient?

I can elaborate here. It is mostly lower-level scrolls, magister rings, and low-level mage items and not really anything that is worthy of being sold, every time I've been there. I mean, the Terg Crypts right beside the Lich Tower offers much better swag, and oftentimes requires much less effort. I regularly see mid-level to high-level scrolls in the Terg Crypts, it should stand to reason Elketh's crib should offer just as much, if not more.

That is more so the loot table and not the quantity of the loot itself. I will take a look through it soon.

I don't know about you guys, but every time I've gone in there I've walked out with at least one 8th level scroll. The vast majority of trips I end up with no less than three 6+ level scrolls, a pile of lesser scrolls (lvls 1-3, usually about 3-6), meager amounts of coin and usually some general useless item or two of value. Things such as Lightstaves, varying mage belts/gloves and what-have-you.

I've never been disappointed with the loot and that's not even fighting Elketh ('cause those bloody shadow things are insane). Though, the majority of the worthwhile loot is placed at the end of the dungeon a bit hidden off to the side.

Far as I know, the two drop locations are as follows:

1) Second floor, the one that's filled with Flesh golems and a handful of Broken Ones and Zombie Golems. This are is three (floating) chests that contain generally crappy mage-stuffs (1-3 level scrolls)

2) 'Final' floor, up the stairs from the teleporter that leads to Elketh himself. There's something like 3 Wardrobes and a number of chests with insanely high OL/Disable DC's that are filled with mid-high level mage-stuffs like scrolls up to 8th level and Greater mage gloves
I am but a blade, A simple tool of destruction.

The only time Ive been there since the revamp we recovered 5x3rd level scrolls 1x4th & 1x5th along with a servant candle, we used 2 potions & two +2 lock picks to obtain them though.  (we only had enough picks for 2 chests out of 4 in the final room)

I think the DC for the locks should be reduced very slightly, so they are hard, but not impossible.

This dosent take into account the amount of potions we quaffed to get out of the forest area though, which it must be said is insanely hard & deserves a better reward. (though cudos for making the area & mobs it was a blast !)

Party level was about 8th-10th and balanced (2xmages , priest & melle rogue)

Nope Not insane if you know what to do.

I'm pretty sure he meant "insane" as in crazy otherworldly weird, not as in super hard....since I was with his char and we pretty much steamrolled the place.  I also love the new look and feel, it's bizarre and very Ravenloft.  But the traps on the chests were the biggest challenge, and the loot was junk.  So, yeah, if you're gonna deal with level drain, at least have something more than a 4th lvl scroll in there, please.

Also, Elketh should kick more ass.  Way more ass.  He should be an absolute terror!  And his room should be bigger and filled with groovy ghoulies like before.  The last room of such an epic tower deserves an epic battle!

Yes, Elketh should be able to destoy large amounts of anything, instead of the young lass behind yoiu as she feels you full of fire and turns yoiu to ash. ;p ... Well I liked the place, and I was not overly concerned about the loot, but others find it important, so I imagine it should be addressed accordingly.. Ban them and let us have more fun ;p [wink wink]

Love yoiu all, and the tower is 'insanely' awesome!
