Barovia - Wachter Province - Wachter Estate
« on: February 12, 2012, 04:01:42 AM »
A farm in the province of the Boyar has been found recently in a very shattered conditions. The Timoshenko family who used to run it has been almost wholly killed, some of the establishments set to fire. Only a survivor, a child named Radu, said it was the little and mean people. The Boyar Garda who eventually arrived there spoke of wolves attack. The word "Neuri" was whispered, not too aloud.

The Lamplighter

The Estate's serfdom Lamplighter. The man comes out at dusk, lights the Estate's surroundings lamp posts. He is feared by almost everyone in town - when he comes out at night, people rush in to avoid him. It is the duty of farmers to provide him with 1 swine or large animal (for the animal fat) a week, tie it in front of his tower for him to do his deed. Everyone avoids direct contact.

When night comes, the squealing of the pigs or whatever animal is given to him resonates into Old Night, making everyone creep under their blankets, worming thoughts of dread - it is believed the Lamplighter takes great glee in what he does, the squealing of the animals at times going for hours before they fade. No one knows who he is, but he leaves none indifferent. It is whispered that his appointment comes directly from the Count himself several years ago, no one asks, no one dares.

A dangerous group of barovian mercenaries has been frequenting the Wachter Provence lately. Seems these men are here upon invitation. The Wachter Guards refer to these men as, The Basterds.

Following upon the heels of the tragic ambush and defeat at the Lunar Bridge, two outlanders have been arrested and jailed pending trial. The accused have been charged with transgressions against Wachter Soldiers, including murder, thieving form the fallen dead and conspiring with the Ionelus enemy.

The names and affiliation of the two criminals has been released as Zivion de Scuza and Leonar Arndon, both Erzites from the Refuge of the Fifth Light, of Vallaki!

The screams of a young woman echo across Old Night momentarily waking the local serfdom in a state of horror. Word begins to circulate the following morning of a local servant girl having gone missing in the night. A dreadful gloom hangs over the local serfs as they carry out their daily tasks, gossiping on their breaks and at the local Old Anchor Inn, contemplating the poor girls fate.

A growing fear begins to build among the populace as Barovians begin boarding their domiciles earlier than usual, hanging wolfsbane and Garlic outside their doors to ward off the coming evils of Old Night...
