New OCR
« on: January 04, 2012, 10:36:31 AM »
I have a question about the new system.

Is my Aasimar supposed to have a lower inherent OCR than my human

aasimar seem to have 3, which when added to the global of 8 makes it 11.

Human seems to have 8, which when added to the global of 8 makes it 16

Also I got two questions of my own,

1: what is the global varient for if we have regional ones now?
2. what does repuation do and how does it work?

Yeah, it's a typo that made humans one of the most hated races in Barovia.   :haw:

Fix is incoming.

1: what is the global varient for if we have regional ones now?

Global are for things that affect globally - e.g. in all domains. They are added on top of the two domain based modifiers, inherent and reputation.

Inherent is for things that are determined by your traits and appearance, while reputation is determined by what people know of your deeds and misdeeds.

ah, though global should be smaller then the rest I figure and not rise as much?

anyways how does the repuation system work mechanically. is it a +/- system where higher points mean you are liked more and if you get - points you are disliked more? not sure how it works mechanically to factor in your good deeds and misdeeds.

Actually, it's the other way around - lower scores means that you are more liked and vice versa. A score of 16 and above will make NPCs act outright hostile to you (commoners flee, guards attack).

does reputation go below 0 to repersent higher good deeds?

also how does it interact with your other score.

say you have 16 regular OCR for barovia, but your repuation in barovia is 1 what would be your effective OCR?

In the old system it was a skill roll based on the OCR

Influence both affect OCR in terms of the effective score itself and the checks for attempts to conceal it. The effect on the score won't show up on your chart as it may vary according to the specific NPC, your current spells, etc. - but in general, it's factors in negatively by a fourth in Barovia (8 influence gives -2 OCR), while by half in most other domains (8 influence gives -4 OCR). This will likely be tweaked in the coming time though.

What about OCR degeneration over time, was this considered? ie: a criminal who might go underground for a time to allow the "heat" to cool then resurfaces later with a better chance of not being recognized?

This would be real useful for those of us too stupid to remember buffing in Constantines Shack isnt a good idea. One of my PCs triggers hostility and outrage worse than a wererat running around Vallaki because of a bless spell I cast over a year ago (in real time I might add). Im not saying we shouldnt have to pay for our spellcasting mistakes and I dont mind walking around with OCR if the suituation warrents, but being a perpetual outlaw FOREVER because of a 1st level BLESSING seems...extreeme.

Does this mean we could have in some cases less freaking out - but more NPCs that are unwilling to do business with you based on racial prejudice/fear/hatred as well as terrible reputation?

Also on a side note: Will there be something done about Hazlan and the Port to give them some sort of actual reaction? As of now you can be a freak and people will kiss you in these places but from what I call Hazlan doesn't take kindly to other ethnicity in humanity outside of Mulani (and especially Demi-Humans who are for the most part only slaves there). I'd also like to see the port be affected on the grounds of people being ugly, or poor not being able to access the 'high society' areas as that is there big divide.

Also as a tag on: omg i liek u new systam it amed a good wan. Seriously - it is the shiznit.

OCR degeneration has long been planned, but was actually just waiting for the per-domain OCR system to be made, so should be coming next.

Another nice feature about the system is indeed that we can make per-NPC OCR reaction patterns, but in terms of individual modifiers but per-NPC calculation method and reaction patterns.

That would be a great idea and would make up for the misclicks etc.

Maybe some variation for the Drain also, where the OCR modifiers are reversed

Is this system suppose to be a big change in rating? My character use to be able to walk into places, but now this new system I'm hostile to everything.

It does not show reductions due to charisma or influence on the chart. You have to adjust those yourself

So, according to the old system, Eliza had OCR 1 (Barovian 6, cha -5)

What should she have now?
Human Barovian, part of the commoners faction
+5 charisma bonus, 18 influence

Is it going to be -3, or -1 now?
Is there a list of base ocrs somewhere?
