Changing descriptions?
« on: June 18, 2011, 02:28:47 PM »
Not 100% sure this is the right forum, but, couldn't think of anywhere else to put it.

Is there a way to change my character's in-game description (the one you see when you examine someone, with their portrait, etc.)?

I have heard something like @description works, but I don't know exactly what it does...does it delete the old and replace it, add what you type at the end, or something else?  Or is this the completely wrong command?

Any tips/veteran knowledge out there?  I have a couple toons I would like to add things to on their descriptions, but I don't want to screw up what is already there.

Yes that is how it works, if you go into journal and click the Checks and Commands topic it tells you all about it.

@description erases all of you're previous info and replaces it with what ever you type in

@description add Will add to what ever is already there

| Shift + | {the key above the enter button} gives a line break so you can make little paragraphs and not have just one massive blob of info

Yes, thank you.  I have a bunch of "messed up, useless" toons on the account to practice with.  This was very helpful!   :D

Actually, as a side-note of sorts, is it possible to view ones own description? As far as I know, you pretty much have to ask another player to read it off to you if you want to make sure it's right.

Nevermind! Someone pointed me to it!

Write out everything in Wordpad so you can spellcheck it and CTRL+V to copy into the chat window, don't look like a douche bag who can't spell!

Edit: I didn't spell check my own post, what a douche bag.

Agreed and it makes it sooooo much easier to do, only takes a few seconds to do. And if you make a mistake you can easily fix, typing it out is a lot more risky IG

@description add “”

is a life saver. I have been wondering how people get such long descriptions in their bio.

How do I copy - paste a character description that I've written in Word? I've tried to do as explained in this threat, but it did not work at all, seem not to be able to copy - paste text from another document into the chat window.
Moreover, I cannot find out how to check said description as described in this forum.
 :(

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Type

@description [pasted words here]

If it all does not fit then you can add the other words by typing out

@description add [more words here]

There are link breaks you can add, too, by typing | which helps space out paragraphs if you want a lengthier description. Try adding @description to the front of your saved description then try it.

Thanks for the quick reply! I've tried all this, but to no avail.
Also, how can I check what others see when looking at my portrait?

There's not much more to expand on what Drekavac has said, the commands appear to be working fine for me.

Thank you very much indeed, Messrs. Drekavac and Asous!
It finally worked out well, and now the description is there.
I am happy  :)
