NWN Feels like kicking me out
« on: June 12, 2011, 12:51:09 PM »
Since we bought a new Router, DLink thingy NWN started to act up!

It randomly kicks me out, in the same manner as a server crash would. Jumping back in is impossible. It never works and my history tab is blanked out as if they all are offline but they can clearly be found in the browser but connecting to them do not work. It is mightly annoying whenever on is in RP or ends up in battle.

Anyone know what this might be? :)

Disable Quality of Service on it and see if it helps, also consider activating log function.

hmm, you should be able to browse it's webinterface? - unless it's an entirely another network.

open an command prop, this can be done by going into start and typing cmd into the searchfield followed by return key.

you should now have an black command promt.

here you write "ipconfig" followed by return key.

you should now see alot of information, what we are looking for is the Gateway, this should typicly be four sets of noumbers (IP-Address).

now open your browser and type "http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" the xxx representing your gateway.

you should now be able to login to the router.

Budly, your not direct connecting to the module when you log in? You aught too it will give you a more stable connection, and apparently (I dont know if this true or not but its what the majority of people say) it will help reduce lag on the server.

1) Go into the folder where your game is installed and create a shortcut of "nwmain"
2) Go into the shortcuts propertys with a right click and then into "shortcut" tab.
3) Where it says 'target:' in that free text box delete everything and paste this command line in, minus the brackets

(C:\NeverwinterNights\NWN\nwmain.exe +connect 192.38.55.132:5123)

(I assume you have a drive called C:\, change that to whatever pathways you have the game installed on the machine. If the IP ever changes, its rare as its for the most part static, you have to change it to reflect what it currently is.)

Thanks msjohansen! I try that if the problem return

Dark-Majico, no I do not direct connect. I do jump on some other servers and just sit there for an half hour some times and talk to people since I played there before. But maybe I should try the direct connect. Does the in game direct connect in the server browser work too?

Yeah, it does work, but you are still going through Gamespy to get there. Using the direct connect as mentioned above bypasses Gamespy, and possibly grants you a more stable connection. The direct connect in the server browser (Gamespy) is mainly for servers that don't list themselves publicly on Gamespy.

The best thing about direct connect is you can create a shortcut for each module you play in, soo if you wanted Ravenloft, two clicks and your logging in, if you wanted to say hi to someone else, two click of another shortcut you created and your somewhere else. Instant NWN gratification, that is if the IP's they use are static.

You need to put in the spaces where they are in that command line up there. Dont be tempted to remove them.

Yeah, spaces. Copy and paste this directly into your shortcut: C:\NeverwinterNights\NWN\nwmain.exe +connect 192.38.55.132:5123

Just substitute C: for whatever hard drive your game is on.

I reinstalled game but kept my modules and such. Same thing over and over. Getting kicked out again, sigh. This is so tedious.

Since I been lazy, my NWN hasn't had a proper reinstall yet and since the game this morning felt like "booting" me even before I been online on a server. I think I should do a proper install and redownload all haks again. Tedious annoyance.

After putting all the things I need to install after the game itself, such as haks and cep on a thumb drive, reinstallation it's been a lot easier and less of a pain.
