Elfric had arrived from Lamordia in good health, his recovery a full successes. Teresa stayed behind, helping her father catch up on a years work. While Brigitte's new grandmother took care of her. It was heart warming to see her folks. The only problem was Lamordia, so full of order and laws.

Almost as it was full of clocks, he now learned why Ernst despite them so. Luckily he had arrived to Port-a-Lucine just in time for the Carnival. There he saw many wonders, and so called horrors. It seemed more fun then scary, some folk did not see it that way. Thanks to the fates, many folks secret were acted out in front of them.

Secrets people wish to stay buried and not known to anyone, Serafim was the first to their mockery. They depicted perversed acts with the Garda, which did not suprise Elfric. When he was with her, he suspected such occurrence. Giving the fact peasantry is not the kindness of social classes, especially growing up in the slums.

The one true attraction that he wished to see was Madame Fortuna, and the "Vampiress. The two are not the same attraction, plus the latter was locked shut. So he decided to visit the fortune teller. He quietly listened as she done Serafim's reading. Then asked for his own, and watched her shuffle the deck once more.

Three cards he drew, and threecards she read. Sun, moon, and judgement. She explained each card's meaning as she drew them. Staring at him with her black sockets, where her eyes should be.  She spoke softly as she summed the reading up. Elfric listened and thought to himself, of how these cards prove true.

Five bodies found scattered around the slums, all children. Another body found in a alley in the docks, near the market. The body was a male hin, shot in the head. One of the children found dead in the slums, was female. Around the age of six, or seven and well feed. Clean, and pampered as if used for unsavory practices. The others were bruised and battered, showing marks of hard labor.

A woman named  Shianzi found a small gathering of slum folk. They were watching over a dead female hin's body. Badly beaten; showing signs of whips, and blunt weaponry. The body could not be brought back, for the spirit appeared to be unwilling.

Little did Elfric know while he investigated leads, that Absalom and the others were at work in it. Managing to get to the bottom of the case, and "saving" the children. It seemed they were used to fight eachother. Almost like a cock fight, but more brutal and savage. Some used Hins for their size to pose as children, and have their adult bodies to give an edge in the fights.

Many horrors they witnessed thanks to the fighting. Peri was kidnapped for the fights, and saw the worst of it. Elfric found her on the streets, long after the case was solved. She was quiet, and talked of the events.  All  of it occurring while Elfric was clueless, and dealing with his own problems.

Elfric Gotz in all his stupidity, did as Teresa said he could. He met a blond woman named Wyn, and had bedded her. Little did he know, until later. That she was a new assistant to Ernst, along with the fact she'd fallen for Elfric.

She was the kind of woman to give an tough appearance. While being soft on the inside, and she had admitted this to him. They spoke quietly in his room at the Governor hotel. The two had a heart to heart talk, and she told him about her whole like. She was alone, and taken from her realm.

He invited her to Absalom's wedding, as he's date, and she agreed. They attended it, and he teased her for how she acted towards him. It wasn't until later she blew up in his face, yelling at him about he's rudeness. He apologised, and offered to treat her to the hardest liquor in the country. Bullet which is  only found in one place, the Bullseye.

They drank round, after round. Becoming highly intoxicated, and merry. The drunkards swaggered out of the bar, and to the broken spire. There they got a room, and passed out. Waking up in the late evening, having drank the day away.

They quietly walked back to the Governor hotel. No one bothered the two as they walked up the steps, and went into the room. Separately they cleaned themselves up, and changed out of their smelly cloths.  Soon they were on the bed, and she was valunable as never before. He held her close and they talked softly, her turning away to not let him see her cry.

She decided that as wonderful, and remarkable Elfric was. She couldn't stand to be around him, for he loved Teresa. All this was suppose to be a bit of acceptable fun, but for Wyn. It became something more, something she wish she could have.  So they talked, and she decided to go back to Barovia.

He wandered if that first night was the right thing to do. Teresa gave him a free pass to sleep with who he pleases, just as they agreed months before, as the relationship started.  Yet Brigitte made them closer, and they will be married soon.  He thought to himself, and decided it was best to let Wyn go. He had comfired her in her time of need, and she cared not to share him, so they decided to remain good friends.

[Letter to Teresa]

Quote
I've been meaning to write you for a while, Teresa. Besides my safe arrival to Port-a-Lcuine, and my hope you doi will have the same. There wasn't much to write about, untill a series of kidnappings occured.
It seemed that children, and pitics alike were being taken. Used  by noblemen to fight unu another, all for the sake of entertainment.

I wonder why i havn't slit a nobleman's throat yet, but then recall  the more important things in my life. Which would be Brigitte and yourself, of course. I love you both dearly, and am happy to be a family. I just don't
want that going to your head. Which is nu a bad thing, mind you, domna.

Apprently that little Hazlan plant got Krow in trouble once. It was a rather funny tale, and i wish i saw it for myself.  I miss you both, and wish for your father's work to be finished soon. I ask you though, do not bring
back a clock Golem. It may seem bun in a fight, but it creeps the iadul out of me.

Your husband,

Elfric Gotz

His dear Teresa, and Brigitte arrived to Port-a-Lucine unannounced. When he finally discovered their return, his wife quickly gave way to nagging. Stating that she almost hired a second investigator to find him, and demanding he kiss her. Nothing had changed with her, besides her addictions fading away. All was grand with this disfunctional family, and he wouldn't have it anyother way.

They went to the usual cafe, Chez Leon's. Attempting to have a quiet night, allowing Teresa to feed her only allowed addiction, Coffee. Elfric had made a comment about getting a gift from her, due to the approach of White day. She swiftly bought a purple rose for the child, and a large bouquet of blue roses for him. They meant to have a quiet night to celebrate but, it was interrupted by shouting, and words of glee from Absalom.

Soon after another familiar face joined them, Serafim. Days before his family came back, she had arrived in Port with the other Ezrites. They told Absalom, and Elfric that they all left the church due to corruption. Even spoke of how a paladin of the Morning Lord "raped" Serafim. They had also arrived to Port in other to help find the child nappers, and bring them to justice.

They all chatted happily over coffee, Elfric holding his daughter for the first time in weeks. It was pure bliss to hold her again, to hold both of them. The quiet night would soon be disturbed by a scream nearby. Absalom along with the Gendarme Edmond searched for the source. Elfric gently handed Brigitte over to Serafim to watch, while Teresa drew her pistol.

The Nobleman's fine purple suit had been torn asunder. Ravaged by large gashes, not only on his cloths but his face as well. Large parts of his flesh from his face, along with one eyeball was missing. Even his tongue appeared to be cut out.

Days later after the attack, several other occurred over time. Nemien and her friend were assaulted in the room. Opening the door for a man who wished to perform a poem for them. One of Ezra's priest healed her, while her friend requiring healing from the younger Montte brother. Two days later, the Gendarme finally put wanted posters, reading as such.

Citizens of Port-ŕ-Lucine, should be aware that there is a serial killer on the loose, an obese and filthy man who is somewhere in the age of 50-60. The man has flies that swarm around him. He has pale blue eyes that are bulging with a jaundiced face. His hair was wiry and thinning. He often wears dirty and worn finery.

The man is dangerous, he is wanted for several accounts of murder of our fair citizens, as well as mutilation and cannibalism. Anyone with any information upon this individual should contact the Gendarme

Teresa approached Elfric, dragging him off to the waterside. Her tone was harsh, but it was not because of him. The council of Dementlieu has accepted their citizenship, but only if Elfric Gotz serves with the Gendarme for one year. There was not a single thing they could do, for if he refused, the citizenship would be revoked. Despite such threats, they attempted to come up with an idea to at least shorten the year.

He was to report to the Gendarme in one week, less he be labled a deserted. Which they would do far worse then revoke the citizenship for him. When he arrived to their head quarters, he was greeted by the desk clerk. Briefly speaking to the man, he was directed to a small office. Which said office directed him to a Captain of the Gendarme. The Captain himself appeared to be in good shape, despite his solid white hairs.

The Captain practically gave him a speech about how honorable it was to join the Gendarme. All of which Elfric found pompous, and boring. That  is until the good Captain brought forth his questions to Elfric. If he  had any intentions to cause political dismay within the city, or cause a rebellious actions due to his Gundarakite blood. Even the Councilor who decided Elfric's fate for citizenship, had her suspicions about the quiet family.

He had one week to talk it over with Teresa, that is what the Captain gave him. Teresa and Elfric talked at the usual spot in the Public Quarter. After deciding it was best he joined, a Gendarme stopped next to them. It was was time for his enlistment. They followed him to the Gendarme, where he signed the required documents. Six months in Port-a-Lucine, and in case of war, Six months on at an unknown place. Then they gave him a uniform, rapier, pistol and, cloak. Then giving a tour of the building, along with his "daily" duties as a recruit.

[The second page in the lone book details what appears to be written in luktar]

"We drink to our youth, and to days come and gone.

For the Age of Oppression is now nearly done.

We'll drive out the Barovians from this land that we own.

With our blood and our steel we will take back our home.

We're the children of Gundarak , and we fight all our lives.

But this land is ours and we'll see it wiped clean.

Of the scrouge that has sullied our hopes and our dreams."

[The small book's fourth, and fifth pages appear to be dedicated to one subject alone]

"Van Richten's books have taught me much in the ways of hunting. Extreamly detailed, and vastly informative. It's no wonder these milk drinkers of Port see it as tavern stories.
Except i, and many others know it to be true; I attempted to convice Matthieu Montte but to no real sucesses. I wonder why the iadul his bother is foolish enough to nem tell him
truth of things. These Neuri exist under the city itself, and possibly within it's wilds. I've  had no sign of the Gra Wulf in some time, neither have i heard the music to protect us from
her. I need to see if they're still in Port. If those two are not, then may the Morning Lord have mercy on their souls."

One moth after the Flint and Flagon celebration, Elfric Gotz returned to public life. The Massacre that occurred due to him caused him to break down, and stay within his family's lodging at the Hotel Governor. Never leaving for food or drink, and being tended to by his wife. When he finally emerged forth, he went to the Gendarme to pay his tax and retire. He told the price for the war tax was ten thousand solars, and that he had to speak with the council member that put him in the Gendarme. He sought the Councilor out, and they came to an agreement. He would be released from service, and allowed to retire provided his wife does one task. All she would tell him was it's a matter of the war time state, and it required her shady expertise. Afterwords he gathered the coin and retired to the Gendarme Head Quarters. Outside the  gates to the slums came a mob of angry  commoners, dubbed revolutionaries. They were armed with rapiers, pistols, and shadowed armor. Prepared for a fight, and a fight they reserved. The Gendarme stationed at the gate would have been overrun if it wasn't for Elfric's own skill with a blade. He then casually walked into the Head Quarters, alerted them of the situation outside, and quickly payed his due. Once more Elfric Gotz was a free man, no longer under the heel of anyone; Say for his wife Teresa.
