A Letter Arrives at the Citadel
« on: March 31, 2011, 05:35:22 PM »
[Written in Balok]

Honored Guard,

It has come to my attention that a bounty has been placed on my head.  This is for fighting with Radu.  When the incident occurred, there were two guards present who witnessed Radu attacking me.  I did not kill him, as I used the flat of my blades to knock him out.  This is the second time he has attacked me.  The first time was while I was saving two of your guards from an assault by a demon and a witch named Yaga.  I had to use magic in order to defeat the villain who was trying to kill them.  Radu saw this and mistook me for the aggressor and thus, attacked me.  On that occasion, I likewise knocked him out.  The guards did not fine or arrest me because of the circumstances.  Radu has held a grudge after that, which is why he attacked me the second time while I was having a pleasant conversation with three of your lower ranked members.  In the past week, I have saved the lives of many of your guard when the vile creatures of the night have attacked.  For brawling with Radu, I was fined five hundred fang.  A man who assisted me in defending myself by the name of Raven, was also fined.  I offered a thousand coin to pay for our fines and was permitted to go to the Bank in Dementlieu to retrieve my money.  I then immediately sent a courier to deliver the payment, which was received by Vladimir this morning.  Please understand I am no outlander and no enemy of our fine country.  My knowledge of magic was a result of my lifetime of work as a hunter of witches.  After studying them and hunting them, I eventually learned to wield their power.  I do this only to defend this country which I love so much.  My time is dedicated to protecting the guard and helping bring in the real criminals who would cause harm to our people.  As a bounty of eleven thousand gold has been placed on my head - I will arrive at the Citadel willingly and of my own accord to pay off my debts.  As I was charged for brawling and have paid the fine, I see no reason as to why I would be further wanted.  However, I wish no problems with the city and would do anything in my power to clear these charges.  I will have on my person the some of the bounty, in the hopes that this may pay the debts I have supposedly gained.  This is not a bribe, nor have I ever attempted to bribe a guard as there has been no reason.  It is my understanding that I am wanted because the fine given to me was not large enough and thus I will bring enough money to hopefully pay of this debt. Yes, in the past I served a jail sentence for charges of a crime that I did not commit.  The true offender came clean and I was released.  Thus, aside from being a known witch I should have no serious criminal background as I have never been found guilty of a crime aside from brawling.  I a member of the Vallaki Guard under Dagris long ago, but have been retired for many years.  With the exception of brawling, I have committed no further crime.  Furthermore I have only ever acted out of self defense, or out of the defense of others.  My magic has never once caused harm to a member of the city guard or a citizen of Barovia.  Even while brawling with Radu, I used only the flat of my swords and no spells.  I am not your enemy and would be better served working along side you as opposed to against you - given that I have an extensive background in the hunting and tracking of true criminals.  In the past, I have battled off the Wight Yves to defend Vallaki.  I have battled the Wight Jeffron to defend Vallaki.  I defeated and led to the capture of the Wight Morffin who robbed the Vallaki bank.  I have defended against witches, demons, the undead and all other aggressors who would cause harm to the guard or citizens of this city.  It is my sincere hope that we may resolve these matters in a dignified manner as it would appear to be a misunderstanding.  Had I known my fine was supposed to be greater than the fine that was given - I would have gladly paid any sum.  I will see you soon in the citadel and I look forward to clearing this mess up swiftly and appropriately.  Thank you.

Signed,
Alexander Silvanus,

Barovian Citizen,
Son of Nikolai Silvanescu,
Renowned Witch-Hunter,
Former Vallaki Guard,
Former Barovian Guard,
Friend to Count and Country

Long Live The Count!

PS.  As to any charges of possible murder...  Radu is alive and well.  How could he have been murdered if he's still alive?

Not jacking your thread ;)

Oddly the man I met in the port some nights has come to my attention by the citadel horns in the early morning. Rarely do the horns sound there. Leaving the outskirts as quickly and as quietly as I could...

The mans name was Alexander Silvanus I learned by mid morning. It seems the garda were... as I heard from the horses mouth well... with an illusion to hide my presence to the... mystically challenged Garda... I can only assume that he would not be killed for a debt owed.

Leaving the area I marked upon the Citadel walls that this man was not a threat to Barovia or order... I even signed me bloody name...

[Word would quickly spread of a public gathering held at the Western Outskirts gallows.  Several armed guard were seen escorting Alexander Silvanus to the location in shackles.  Hoisting him on the gallows riser, they announced to the public his crimes of witch-craft and assault on Radu.  Following this announcement, they gave him thirty lashings with a whip and broke the fingers on each of his hands.  Their words were clear to the public that witch craft would no longer be tolerated.  That even the mighty witches could be caught and punished for their crimes.  None would be spared the full hand of the law if they break the laws of the land and count]
