Thoughts about more @functions
« on: September 30, 2010, 06:03:39 PM »
I was thinking whether it might be possible to let people assign a block of text to the @function? Let's say I were a cleric, and would like a faster way to reside a hymn of sorts, that I could write "@assign hymn [insert hymn here]". Then when I want to make it appear, I would write "@hymn" and the character would say the hymn. Then there might be an "@clear assignments" to clear out all the commands.

I can imagine this would make the life easier for people who are too short on available quickslots, and those who want to quickly display a longer text than the meager space one can assign to quickslots by default. This would make me bother more with keeping routinely behaviors personally, don't know about others. Maybe I'm just lazy?

One more idea in the pot.  :)

That's why text macros were invented?

They are silly short. Can't be used for stuff like storing IC descriptions. That's something I'd really appreciate, as I change quite often between attires and disguises.

There is some trick for typing long texts in the macros. But I don't remember it. Maybe it was copy/paste the text from an editor.

I assume "macro" is the default text you can put in a quickslot? If so, it still doesn't solve the lack of quickslot space.

Well, I think it's a good idea, though I'm not sure of how the best way would be to add the syntax... Something like token? @token add 1 <text>to input, then @token 1 to recall?

I wouldn't know about the best way, but couldn't it be even shorter in this case to make it quicker? q for quicktext, so @q add 1 <text> for input, then @q 1 to recall?

Would be nice if the "shouts" emote would be persistent it's a great emote for arguing . Also something like whistles, coughs etc could be very cool if they played the sound effect.
