Paladins spells.
« on: August 27, 2010, 05:00:33 PM »
Ok, I've mentioned this a few times but its been overlooked so I will continue my quest.

Paladins do not get proper wisdom bonuses for spells. My paladin Tasha is 15th level. In the book it says she should get  2 1rst, 1 2nd, 1 3rd, 1 4rth, she however has a 14 wisdom which suggests a +2. In reality she gets 3 1rst, 2 2nd, 1 3rd , 1 4rth.  Coulld someone please explain to me why this is ?

A fifteenth level paladins base spells per day are 2 first level, 1 second level, 1 third level, and 1 fourth level. An ability modifier of 2 (granted by your 14 wisdom) grants an additional first level and second level spell slot. This means you should have 3 first level slots, 2 second level, 1 third level, and 1 fourth, so it sounds like there is nothing wrong there. Apologies if I misread your post.

To add to Sheltatha and HellsPanda, There is a specific table that defines how the main characteristic impacts on spell slots.  Let me know if it is no clear, I will happily give you more details.

If you had 18 Wis (A +4 modifier) you'd have a bonus 4th circle spell.

Read the modifier as 'This number is the highest spell level you get a bonus spell for. Also, this number -4 is the spell levels you get 2 bonus spells for'.

So a Wizard with 24 Int would have +7 modifier, get bonus spells for levels 1-7 and another bonus spell for levels 1-3.

Here's the table:

Apologies if stuff was already mentioned, my skim-reading is bad lately.

Ah so if I had an 18 wisdom I would get an additional 3rd and 4rth also ?

Thanks for the clarification, I'm such a noob.

Yep! Check the ability modifier link, there's a handy chart detailing bonus spell slots.
