Vallaki Garda Uniforms
« on: July 15, 2010, 12:09:06 PM »
I think i've raised the point a few times though never officialy.

so here it is.

can we please have the vallaki guard uniforms changed back to how they used to be?

at the moment they are what can only be described as 'diahorrea brown'....

im sure the developers had their reasons for their choice of colour. but they looked soooo much better when we had the black and grey uniforms,  heres a pic for those who never seen them before.

or if they must be brown, could they at least be a brown less descriptive of bodily fluids?

or just  a reworked version with a few extra colours? added in a bit of grayish black and grey cloaks.

studded leather version for scouts

i like the dark brown, black and grey personaly, as they seem colours that are more earthy and barovian and seem more in canon for the time.

thoughts?

I think I have never had the chance to say it publicly, but I liked more the old version of uniforms too.

They look like the typical black clad -anyone-, those old ones.  "The Vallaki Guarda uniform shouldn't look like some stupid outlander would like to wear it anyway."

What needs to be changed is to have a slightly more notable distinction between Corporal and Lance Corporal.

ive never seen an outlander wear anything like that. they all wear black leathers, black metal, black cloaks, and spikey helmets because theyre 'hard'

but i agree with the lance and corp thing.

I like that brown much better yes.

I however recall their boots looking different, and I think they can keep them that way (it was a more shabby version). Maybe you could show how those same shabby boots look with that brown?

wouldnt the garda be punished for allowing their armour to rust?

back when we had the black and grey uniform, i dont recall there ever being a case of some one being mistaken for a garda who wasnt one. namely because there are npc guards everywhere so you know what they look like, and the design of the uniforms wasnt typical of what outlanders wear.

the black dark brown and grey is still my faverote, as it gives the rustic look to the garda, without resorting to rust and disciplinary action.

the armours such as padded, leather, studed leather and maybe chain shirt could certainly use a revamp. as at the moment they are entirely diahorrea brown, with a diahorrea brown clloak and bleach metal. absolutly no definition, and looks like 0% effort has gone in, especialy when you then have to put some stupidly heavy shiny helmet on your head.. cant tell me thats rele in keeping with the rustic look of barovia? they look too pristine and like theyve just come off the toolset with the default setttings.

can we have some comments from  a developer or one of the garda dms please.

The garda uniform - as most faction uniforms - have been revised nearly a million times in the past to respond to various requests, to the point it had become somewhat silly. At the end, we simply decided to revert to the original and not do any further revisions since it always seems to dissatisfy some eventually.

I'm not unappealed by the suggested looks, but it'll be something that we will be cautious about changing, for the reasoning above.

i guess, but i dont recall us ever being mistaken. even though i was once mistaken for a guard when konrad was insane and wearing a hobo jacket drooling, holding a pitchfork and had a bucket on his head. people were turning in flint lock pistols to him and things! so i dont think being mistaken by uniform rele has much part to play.

Does Vallaki have a symbol? Maybe we could pick from the various tabbards available in the Robes selections. The Raven maybe. It would not matter what armor you wore, as long as you wore the Vallaki Tabbard. We could do the same in the Village of Barovia, give it a regional symbol only to be worn by the Authorities there.

Then can we pick one? Since none has been defined?

im ok with the uniforms, i e think a darker brown would be more fitting and grim. but really doesn't bother me. but if it was considered for change, could always run a poll to see which is the most popular

i dont have so much sn issue with the splint and halfplates and full plates, but the lighter armours can only be described as utterly gash!

I don't think its worth the effort to change them again.

But for the record i dislike the way the Vallaki Guard Leather Armor looks. It dosn't match with the other uniforms. At first glance, players don't recognise it as the official Garda uniform.

Perhaps a quick fix would be to just craft a chain mail tunic graphic over it so it matches the other Garda uniforms. :twocents:

You know, there is a leather armor robe you can choose, which has about the same blueprint as the chainmail robe the garda uniform has. Why not use that one?

I think the uniforms are fine.

They're peasants, they wouldn't dye their uniforms - that costs money.

The von Zarovich coat of arms likely is Barovia's. You can find it in the Gazetteer in the section about Barovian economy (one of the coins sports it).

from what the image shows. it is a shield with a bar at the top of the shield, three little symbols in it. and a wolf head at the top of the shield. Not sure if there is an image in the shield as it isn't seen.
