The diary of Iuchi Katsako, a simple leather bound book with a sturdy spine. The cover holds a picture of a delicate orchid. The pages inside are thin and fragile, but well kept.

Katsako was born into the Iuchi family in the northern lands of Rokugan, Iuchi is a noble family belonging to the Unicorn clan. The Unicorn Clan is known for their cavalry and horsemanship. They are considered barbarians by the six other major clans, not mentioning the numerous minor clans, because the clan as a whole spent nearly 800 of the last thousand years outside of the empire. Before they left Rokugan, the Unicorn Clan was known as the Ki-Rin Clan, and the Unicorn Clan are their descendants. They hunt game and eat red meat and have adopted a number of other customs that are considered taboo by the rest of the Clans.

It was decided that Katsako would train as a Shugenja in the Iuchi training school, where she would focus on the element of Water. Shugenja's who specialize in water specialize in healing and cleansing spells, and most of the commonly associated curative spells, in addition to spells of decay and change, which are dictated by this element. Katsako lived a regimented life where she was trained in the skills of the Unicorn clans masters. Her daily routine was made up of regimented tasks and periods of prolonged study, calligraphy, horse riding, martial arts, and sword techniques of the Wakizashi, as well as archery where all taught.  As well as the practical skills Katsako was taught lessons of honor and humility, history, philosophy, flower arranging, and origami.

Katsako became a diligent member of the clan and blossomed in her role, good fortune and luck seemed to follow her allways and she was well talked about by those who came across her path. Her fortune seemed set to continue until she and a handfull of her close friends and allies where set upon by a group of wicked Sorcerers from a rival clan. Katsako survived the ambush but was lost in a strange mist in the chaos, caught unaware by this mist, Katsako and her allies believed the mist to be the doing of the Sorcerers allthough only Katsako had found herself in Barovia.
