LOL no she was being taught to make bows ic and had to get beech tree so she rped it as pruning and cutting dead wood ect. But us low str classes have enough trouble with weight dont make axes and picks bigger.

Think someone came with a solution, at least for mining, seems that at least mining with two petty picks won't function properly anymore, liked this.

Seriously I don't want to ruin the experience of people who can wield two axes or two picks, it just seems "very" unrealistic for the craft.

With more time to mess with it, I have more feedback.  It appears that a buffed greatsword in the hands of a greatsword specialist still yields far greater amounts of ore than a buffed up pickaxe in the hands of the same.  Perhaps two and a half times the amount coming out of a copper seam with a greatsword in hand, than with a pickaxe.

It's a combination of the greatsword dropping more ore per hit, and also somehow destroying the seam slower, so the end result is an ore fiesta.  Not that I mind ore fiestas or anything.

Don't shoot me down for this idea, but...

Maybe weapons should be damaged when they're used to mine or woodchop, like when they hit oozes?

I mean, it only makes sense. You're hammering a rock with it, after all.

With, obviously, pickaxes and axes being immune to the damage from ores and trees, respectively.

Or it could just not give you ore.  Though resource gathering is not exactly a 'craft', in all of the crafts, you are required to use certain tools to proceed.  To smelt, you must you smelter's bellows - you can't blow on it or use a book as a fan - so in that regard I wouldn't mind if simply put, nothing happened when you tried to gather resources using the wrong tools.

Side note. Light pick is a small weapon, nevertheless the bonuses of weapon finesse are not applied to it. Anything fixable?

Weapon Finesse

Type of feat: general
Prerequisite: base attack bonus +1

Specifics: A character with this feat is adept at using light weapons subtly and effectively, allowing him to make melee attack rolls with his dexterity modifier instead of strength (if his dexterity is higher than his strength).

Use: Automatic when using any of the following weapons: dagger, handaxe, kama, kukri, light hammer, mace, rapier, shortsword, sickle, whip, and unarmed strike.
edit Notes

    * The finessable weapon list includes all standard small and tiny melee weapons, plus the rapier (which is medium).
    * Two-handed weapons cannot be finessed. Thus, small races (e.g. gnomes and halflings) cannot finesse rapiers.
    * Even though the feat description says "light weapons", this should not be confused with light weapons in the context of dual-wielding. The finessable weapons are exactly the ones listed above, regardless of the size of the weapon and the size of the wielder (with the noted exception that two-handed weapons cannot be finessed).
o Creature weapons are considered "unarmed strike" for the purpose of this feat.
    * The maximum dexterity bonus does not apply in the context of this feat; wearing armor does not affect attacks made using weapon finesse

Some time ago, perhaps over a year, a screenshot was posted on the forum by Unana showing ore that had exploded all over a room from a critical hit from a heavy pickaxe.  Due to this screenshot being posted, mining was rebalanced.  However, it has since been discovered that what had transpired in that picture was actually a glitch: stacking an alchemist's fire and any on-hit spell effect (in the case of Unana's Sivius, it was darkfire) would cause a rock to explode with ore.  This bug has since been fixed, but the mining rebalance (nerf) remains.

I would hope that mining could be placed back to how it originally was, but it should at least be looked at.  Right now, mining is supposed to be a damage/strength based endeavor, but I hardly find that to be the case.  My barbarian has 22 strength and improved power attack.  Here is a video of me mining only three ore: http://www.xfire.com/video/247872/

Every time I travel, everyone seems to mine more than I do, but stat-wise, my character should be the ideal miner.  I use a pickaxe, improved power attack, and sometimes rage/bull's strength, but I get assy amounts of ore, generally in the range of 0-6 per ore-rich rock.  I see people mining with a pickaxe in each hand, elves with 10 strength, or people whacking the ore-rich rocks with weapons like halberds and fists, and they generally end up walking away with more ore than I do per rock.

It's sad to spend a lot of time in the silver mine only to end up getting a few nibbles of ore per rock, when your character is as focused as can be at mining, and has the right tools for the job.

:)

Please reconsider the mining values.

Mining with hands, halberds or dual weilded picks sure sound...serious...not!

Why the hell would you mine with your hands? Thats a question I ask.
