Monsters running across Transitions
« on: February 14, 2010, 04:15:09 PM »
Numerous werewolves have runaway from me...and then across transitions.  This usually pulls me across with them too.  As if them running all over the screen wasn't bad enough, now they can run across the entire server!!!

yeah. they sure do. but I think it was intentional, I may be wrong. Been like that for a while, at least a week.
I survived the Blue Water Inn Massacre and all I got was this t-shirt.

So it was intentionally made worse? [frowns]  I guess move this under the balance section then.  If anything, we should be toning down the runaway monster system rather than giving them more room to run.  Hamstring them or slow there speed down to half of normal.  Running all over to kill a scared monster just sucks.

Can see positives and additions to realism, but it can get rather annoying when most of things you fight run all over the map.

If they favour the night-time they will often despawn when they run outside.

I have also chased mink across three transitions when hunting them. I also saw some fire beetles who must have chased some cows across the transition into the western outskirts.

i LOLed when i first saw this. i had a Skeleton Chieftan out in the Negative energy area above the vampire crypts. my Skeleton chased after the monster and transitioned on its own. then in my combat log i saw...

Skeleton Chieftain attacks someone

Skeleton Chieftain attacks someone

Skeleton Chieftain attacks someone

to funny, but in all honesty i love it lol

can attest to this, and with my system I occassionally recieve a fair bit of load time in larger areas.  I was fighting a werewolf at one point that was right on top of a transition, when it transitioned I was immediately drawn through behind it.  By the time I loaded it had already run back across the transition and I was immediately tossed into another load screen.  Happened about 3 times with no means of breaking the combat(not enough time to react before transitioning again)  when I finally got a lucky AoO and ended the loop.  While its nice to see things being "uncaged" it does have a few kinks in it right now it seems.

It gets really annoying when the run away and you chase then get glitched into rocks.. Ohhhh just makes me want to slow roast the werewolf for doing that to me..

But ya perhaps if they can run so far make them just pop back up at thier spawn after they get more then a map away? I chased a werewolf from northwestern shore alllll the way back to the beatles.

Yeah, but if you make a pen & paper monster flee, you're supposed to get xp for defeating it ;)

well if you char is the type to let a evil flesheating creature of the night escape to possibly kill someone beacuse you let it go. Well then more power to ya.

Some players would not IC just lets certian monsters go. However, its really annoying (if not impossible sometimes) to chase down every monster that has fled.

And thus the downside to morale systems.   :D

And yet some IC would, which made it rather annoying when they refused to sod off when at Near Death. Hence the up side.

Im looking forward to seeing this when I get back in. I loved the moral system. Now with them running off into another map it does make it more of a Challenge. Someone had mention hamstringing them, that is a feat already. I use call shot legs to slow down both monster and when I have too pc's. Works great with a bow or crossbow.

Arik Donovich - He has found a home, but it has become a prison for him.
Gargain Kernsonn - Ex loyal guard
Laylynn Ravenkin - One personality dead, only two more and I rule alone.

I wish they'd get exhausted or something when they run near death.  PCs get tired in battle, but monsters near death can run all the way across the server at full speed apparently.  It just makes it not worth fighting them.
