E-Mail verification for forum accounts

I've done it with the forum of Les Chats Noirs. Not difficult to be honest... might be required...

We've had email verification since day 1. Unfortunately it's not the most effective way to prevent spambots anymore. It only catches a handful of them. Damn spammers keep getting more and more sophisticated. There is an add-on for these forums I've been thinking of getting that checks new members against a known spammer database.

Only a constantly changing Captcha or black-list will work.
Some older forums had bots that would submit a fake registration sheet and the forum would accept it. Email verification doesn't do a thing against them.

Some forums have a plugin where you can ask questions that only actual humans using that particular forum could answer.
