Installation Issues
« on: December 23, 2009, 12:33:57 AM »
Trying to install my copy of NWN. No problems, up until it tries to install nwmain.exe.

From there, my computer's fan goes beserk, and the installation crashes. Any similar issues had in the community?

Yes, I didn't find anything relevant. My worst fear is a damaged copy, which is strange, since I have two discs of Diamond, one CD key. One SHOULD work, but both are experiencing the same issue. I suspect something with my PC, since there was a rollback on my PC, and somehow the game was uninstalled. Perhaps a reformat of my hard drives will fix it.

I'm having issues with graphics. FPS are very low, it's messy. I've just bought this computer, and if you're going to tell me to update/reinstall drivers I need really someone to tell me step by step what I need to do because I'm not any good with it. Going on Nvidia website didn't fix because it makes me download stuff which don't do anything worth. Clues? My computer is as follows:

Processor:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9550 @ 2.83GHz (4 CPUs)
Memory:
2048MB RAM
Hard Drive:
1000 GB
Video Card:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260
Sound Card:
Realtek HD Audio output
Operating System:
Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3 (2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.090804-1435)

You probably just need to set the affinity in the nwn.ini file

Read this here: http://www.nwnravenloft.com/forum/index.php?topic=10560.0

Basically, NWN was programmed back when computers only had one processor, so the new multi-processor CPUs make the game go crazy. One of the later patches added an option to force the game to use only one processor.

look in your folder for NWN and locate the file called "nwnplayer.ini" You open this with something like Notepad.

Like the others said, make sure under [Game Options] in the "nwnplayer.ini" file you have:

Client CPU Affinity=0

Check this part and see if it matches:

Quote
3D settings:
Multi-display/mixed GPU acceleration: single display
Texture Filtering - Trilinear opt: off
Threaded opt: off
Triple Buffering: off

Checked and it's the same. Well I've tried Dragon Age and it works well and with no lag or whatever. So it's a metter of incompatibility of this system and NWN. But I've no clue on how to fix it. Really not one. Playing 17 FPS is like having a Ferrari and using it only in town.

Yeah, my other games run smooth as butter.. but soon as I log into ravenloft, its a choppy run with a low fps..

Now, in my nwnplayer.ini I don't even have

3D settings:
Multi-display/mixed GPU acceleration: single display
Texture Filtering - Trilinear opt: off
Threaded opt: off
Triple Buffering: off

Where exactly is that in the nwnplayer.ini, or where should it be?

You can try values from 1-4, it will force the game to run on a single spesific core, it may make a difference.

UPDATE:

Tried installing to another drive, failure.

I got a message saying the "remote destination call failed", or some such. :/
