I did a search for this on the forums and couldnt find anything. I used this on my old server to save all my logs without actually having to save them and I wanted to extend it to everyone else incase they wanted to do the same thing!
http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=other.Detail&id=155 Follow this link and you will be taken to the place where you can download the Gnomish Log Rotator.
What is the gnomish log rotator? Let me first explain quickly what a log is. No, it's not for sitting on and it's not even made out of wood in this case. I'm talking about log files that record everything that goes on in the module from you log in till you log out.
To activate the log recorder, you must first enter your nwn directory (by default located on your C: drive), click the folder "NWN" and look for the file called Nwnplayer.ini
Open this file and find the line that goes:
ClientEntireChatWindowLogging=0
Now change it to:
ClientEntireChatWindowLogging=1
But be careful not to change anything else in that document before saving it.
Now, everytime you run your nwn game, it will keep a log file of the conversation and anything else going on in the chat menu. This log file will be saved in your nwn directory under "Logs".
The problem is that this log file is given the same default name everytime you start your game, overwriting the old logs.
Until now, the only way to prevent this was to manually find and rename that log file every single gosh darn time your game shut down for any reason, to prevent the log file from being overwritten by the new one.
However! This is what the Gnomish Log Rotator will change! Follow the readme file, install the GRL (Gnomish Log Rotator) as detailed, and use the new icon that appears on your desktop to run NWN instead of the old desktop icon. The new NWN icon will look different and be named nwn.bat but it will start your game just the same.
When you open your game using this icon, it will remember to edit the name of your log for you upon exit.
What if you don't want to keep a log of all the servers you visit? Just use your old NWN desktop icon and it won't edit the name of your log file, and it will be overwritten next time you run nwn. Easy.
A useful detail of this device is also the ability to tell it to direct connect to a specific IP adress. Punch in FRC's IP and it will connect you instantly everytime you use that shortcut! Check the box "Player" to log in normally, or check the box "DM" to log in using the DM client.
