Borca - Levkarest - The Grand Cathedral
« on: October 18, 2009, 03:45:31 PM »
Early words in Borca mention the organization of a Holy Tour of the West that Praesidius Levin Postoya will undertake in the fall and on through till spring of next year. Intended as an ecumenical tour of the three other Sects of Ezra, Levin Postoya will visit with Bastions in Mordentshire, Port-a-Lucine and Nevuchar Spring, to settle in person various differences and recent disputes. Accompanying the Preasidius will be a variety of highly-ranked Church officials of Her Church and the famous Grand Cathedral Choir of Levkarest.

Throughout the city of Levkarest the bells of the Grand Cathedral ring out five times in acknowledgement of a new inquisitor taking his vows. The church welcomes its newest Inquisitor, Jacques Martel of the Third Sect. The celebration is short as the new Inquisitor has grim duties to attend too in the backwoods nation of Barovia.

The imposing statue of Yakov Dilisnya seems to be overseeing mutely on anything which happens in the rich gardens outside the Grand Cathedral. Secrets and gossips are shared every five days among the members of the laity, of the Clergy and even among the normally silent Templar Knights. A Count choked because a chicken bone, a Baroness flirted way too openly with a female servant, a Stapan had to sell all his Indentures just to keep his own title. Normal Borcan rumours, during an ordinary Fifth Day. Some other rumours start spreading about a possible visit of the Praesidius Levin Postoya in Vallaki, Barovia, to celebrate the renovations of the local temple, the Refuge of the Fifth Light. Part of the clergy, not openly, hopes this is to happen, and maybe the Grand Scheme could find a way to replace the elderly Praesidius with some friend.

Word spread fast about some foreigners visiting the Grand Cathedral, and Sefeasa Ivana Boritsi did not miss the chance to meet this "Brave New World" of adventurers. Nevertheless, easily distratcted, especially about the fact those foreigners came mostly from Vallaki,  in front of them, she placed a bet with her close friend Luciana. Luciana promised her she will manage to have Barovian populace like Borcan shows, a portion of land and a rich Barovian suitor are the the prospect prizes of this gamble. One just wonders when Luciana is going to move to Vallaki, and whether she'll be part of delegation the Praesidius is sending there to celebrate the renovations in the Refuge of the Fifth Light. Further rumours speak of the presence of Postoya himself during this reversed pilgrimage.

Masons work at the fantastic interior of the Grand Cathedral. Up on high, in the ceiling of myriad gargoyles that are turned in terror from the light of Ezra, the artisans repair a damaged sculpture; below, they replace tiles. Whispers in the cloisters speculate on a recent series of four terrible omens, one of which was the fall of one of those heavy, stone grotesques upon an unsuspecting warden, nearly killing him outright.

[Anchorites, templars, and laity largely associated with the mission in Barovia were seen carrying in the body of the late Bastion of the Third Revelation, Joan Secousse. It is said that preparations for the funeral itself will take place in a few days' time...]

[Terrifying news from Levkarest soon spreads throughout the Core: Praesidius Levin Postoya is dead! The Praesidius is dead! The whole of the Grand Cathedral has been consumed by chaos, panic, and confusion in the wake of the man's passing. Those belonging to the Fourth Revelation declare loudly that these ARE the days of dying light and that the Time of Unparalleled Darkness isn't coming -- it is HERE.]

[It has been confirmed within the Great Cathedral that, prior to his death, the late Praesidius had not named any successor to his role. Chaos and panic occurs within the Home Faith clergy where many competitive anchorites seek to claim the role. Fortunately, order was swiftly brought in the moment of chaos when the likes of Toret Bolezino da Verardino and Toret Johann Severin declared that the next Praesidius would be decided in an election held in Levkarest. This election is to remain exclusive only to Torets, Sentires and Bastions spread throughout the Core. As of now, the Church of Ezra remains calm but the tension of uncertainty remains...]

[Investigations surrounding the suspicious death of one of the candidates, Toret Jacomelo Grassi, have come to a sudden conclusion in Levkarest. Announcements are made in the Grand Cathedral that the elections to decide the next Praesidius will continue by the end of the week. Anchorites and faithful throughout the Core remain anxious at the upcoming results, for it would declare what future would hold for the entire religion.]

[The election in the Great Cathedral of Levkarest came to a bloody end, with many at first suspecting Oton Boritsi to gain a decisive majority, but he was found utterly outmatched by Alessandra Tiepolo's electors, who had earned more than half of the votes. This came after Teodorus Raines announced he would back away from the position suddenly, with much of his supporters switching their support to form a united front.

Moments after Alessandra Tiepolo was designated as the new Praesidia of the Church of Ezra, a darkly dressed woman attempted to assassinate her before the crowd. The attempt was foiled with the combined efforts of those present, and the assailant was caught and killed by church officials as she tried to escape the scene. An Inquisitor quickly took the body of the assassin out of sight. Rumor has it that the assassin was a close associate of Lady Ivana Boritsi. Oton Boritsi, throughout the chaos, swiftly departed the scene along with his supporters.

Praesidia Tiepolo immediately declared that this was a victory for the Church with Bastion Raines openly backing the new leader of the faith. The Church of Ezra appeared united during that moment, but the aftermath has only increased anxiety throughout Borca. Only a day after the incident, fearful anchorites are heard pleading the Praesidia to make peace with Ivana Boritsi, while others directly seeking to placate Ivana for mercy.]
