Itouch & NWN
« on: October 08, 2009, 07:32:25 PM »
So I was just sitting here..
Came up with this Crazy Idea!

What if you could use the Itouch to play NWN!
I mean, it seems possible.

Itouch already has Wifi, so no needs to worry about Internetz.
Although, the GPU is low end, but some of the games it can play are beautiful compared to NWN!
I don't see why it couldn't render NWN.

Give some Feed Back!
Also, would it be hard to convert a Programming language (Probbly C or C++) to OpenGL 2.0?
Any tech ideas would be awesome!

Just Imagine...
Nwn Anywhere.
zomg!  8)

Psh, but a Laptop can't fit in my Pocket.
With the Itouch you can do quite the lotz!
Sneak play NWN during that boring Social Studies class..
lolz

Also, the challenge to program something like that would be marvelous.
I mean, there is a group programming World of Warcraft to play on it.
So why not NWN?
I got with many languages except OpenGL 2.0.
Does anybody got any suggestions on how it works, or if it's hard to convert C into OpenGL?

OpenGL is not a programming language... that would be the place to start.

As the page states, it's an API.  It's not something you would convert from C to OpenGL; you would call the OpenGL from C.

Well, how would one go about doing so?
Any ideas?
I wouldn't mind gathering a little group of people to think this over with!
Be a pretty fun project to try  :)

I believe NWN already uses OpenGL, version 1.5 as I recall, though not perfectly sure of the version.

I would say more frustration than it is worth. Mobile device hardware and OSs are notorious for saying they will support a clearly defined standard. Then you usually find out it has more gotchas than you can shake a stick at.

Most likely, but it still would be a great accomplishment if you got it to work.

Really Now?
Hmmm
I'm thinking this is a little more possible then I thought.

shaking sticks at stuff seems to be the typical iPhone/iTouch game anyway.  :rimshot:

Seriously, though I can't really see this on the current generation of iPhone/iTouch. Just trying to imagine roleplaying by typing on the iPhone's on-screen keyboard with auto-correct....

no, just no -_-;

NWN with CEP2 is a laggy game.  It lags terribly on my laptop, so I bet the most it would do on an iPhone is make the phone catch on fire.

Oh mengz.
That is true.
Hmm Maybe the idea is going down hill slowly now.
