Non-bards and music
« on: July 21, 2009, 05:18:57 PM »
What non-bards should do when they want to play?
Non-bards should be able to play, sing and dance well, just not so good as them. So what to do?
Just emote doing that? Roll some other skill instead of performance?

You can get +8 to 10 off of gear, and non-bards can still roll perform, they just can't add points to it.

Actually i was expecting to be able to use a skill. I want to put ranks in that.
Maybe i could use lore for playing musical instruments?
Tumble would be good to dance in my opinion.
Bards would keep using perform tough.

I want to learn to do those stuff well. Gear wouldn't reflect that.
And rolling perform with 0 ranks will always get crappy rolls. As i said earlier, i want to get somewhat good at it.

Trelia does acrobatics, I use tumble for that.

If you absoultely MUST have a roll for it, I'd go for Influence.

Otherwise, you know, just RP it instead of turning it into a roll-fest?

In PnP, any class can take Perform. We could actually open it up for roleplay purposes.

you could always take some bard levels and put ranks in perform if you would like your character to reflect your RP of learning to perform...seems like that makes the most sense without cheesing

I really like this idea. Taking perform ranks without bard levels has zero benefits except for roleplay.

I don't want all the bard benefits. It makes no sense for him to be a bard. He just knows how to play without being a disaster. He can't give the bard bonuses to people or have bardic knowledge, and  i don't want any bard spells. Its just playing an instrument in a mundane way. 5 levels of bard its a complete nonsense.

That's what i wanted. But some people ask for perform rolls. Influence or Lore could make it, but i'd rather spend some points on perform. Maybe i should roll both and take the worst result...
