Children thieves in Dementlieu
« on: July 03, 2009, 12:45:23 AM »
I was thinking while making my way through the poorer quartier at night, maybe there should be a *boss* in every party of children, like an adult. And when he dies, all the kids would scatter instead of just pelting the players, awaiting for their imminent death.

Stela Cojocaru - barovian snake
Crina Ovidiu - barovian guard

I can't begin to imagine how a Paladin would settle the situation otherwise. Not sure how possible this would be, though.

Why? Paladin is not only Good, but also Lawful, and Rough/Merciless doesn't mean Evil. In countries with a strong presence of law and where paladins also double as guards, I am quite sure they could apply the law effectively on the children too.

Suzail had a Lawful Good monarch and strong presence of Paladins, but still a kid caught stealing could at hardest get his wrist cut off.

My Paladin probably would not attack them, unless they tried to kill someone who could not defend himself, but that doesn't mean NO paladin would.

And when he dies, all the kids would scatter instead of just pelting the players, awaiting for their imminent death.

I like the ruthless setup of a kid trying on his own to kill you. It's not like that couldn't happen in real life too.

Still, NWN AI will have a rat charge at a Balor, in the same way it'll have a young kid with a dagger charge at a fullplated knight of pure and Good who has just defeated their boss with a single strike.

Of course there can be exceptions. Whatever makes sense.
But a paladin of the Morninglord? I doubt it.
Or Heironeous, or anything goody goody like that.

Realistically, the thieves should scatter the moment the mark reveals himself to be armed.  "He's got a sword, mates.  Cheese it!"  rather than risk death or maiming, or a murder charge.  Whether they're children or not.

However, since the script doesn't do that, I don't think that a Paladin would just stand there, until the kids beat him to death.  Retreat is the only viable option, because I agree that any good character would find it very hard to attack children, regardless of how justified it was.  Especially since, there is no subdual on NPC's that I'm aware of.

And now ladies and gentlemen comes the time where I relieve you of the burden of your failed and useless lives.  But if you gotta go, go with a smile!

actually you can use subdual mode on NPCs once you beat them up enough they fall and then stand back up and disappear and you get no XP for it

But I thin ka pally would us sub duel. Like the flat of his blade oh the childs back side.

Arik Donovich - He has found a home, but it has become a prison for him.
Gargain Kernsonn - Ex loyal guard
Laylynn Ravenkin - One personality dead, only two more and I rule alone.

I just unequip my weapons, subdual, and "spank" them. WHACKS ON THE HEAD TEACH MORAL CORRECTNESS.

I like the copping off hands idea.  So does Ra.  We'll go with that.
Wouldn't the world be better off if we took nonsense more seriously?

Good children should be in bed asleep... bad children who sneak out at night meet worse things in the dark... In the end there is only survival.

One time, I glimpsed an invisible character while entering a transition, so I decided to start roleplaying...

after a good, long minute, they asked, "Are you roleplaying with yourself?"

"You're here, aren't you?"

"..."

...as for child thieves, you can make them run with Fear spell, but that's an evil spell so it's probably just as damning to simply kill them...right?
