Negative Plane Avatar
« on: April 24, 2009, 07:08:17 AM »
I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, I'm assuming not for the moment.

The negative plane avatar that comes with the Death domain is very underpowered, it only does 1 damage per hit and has a pathetic strength drain. 13Ac and 19hp barely stands up against anything. It is basically a normal shadow.

Mine also appears not to scale like it says it should, Triel is level 5 and her avatar is still level 3, just as it was in the beginning.

Am I making a mountain out of a Mole hill, Bugged, or just plain crazy?

I think it's meant to upgrade every 2 levels to reflect greater summoning ability. Triel can summon a level 6 skelly warrior, but her Avatar is a pathetic level 3 smear.

Not a bug I believe.

Rather the shadow companion acts like a summon rather than a familiar, the given template creature is always of the same level as with the monster summoning spells, and on certain levels as the cleric progresses, it is replaced with a more powerful summon with a higher level. The progression goes as Shadow, Shadow Mastiff, Shadow Fiend I think.

All of those summons are rather weak, nevertheless the shadow has 50% concealment, and it is immune to sneak attacks and critical hits (might also be immune to normal weapons) and lasts longer than other monster summoning spells. Thus it creates a decent distraction for enemies on lower levels.

But isn't that spell supposed to represent her shadow so it should grow in strength as she does.

Shadow Mastiff on level 8 (creature level 6, 19 AC, 51 HP, 10/5 AB, no shadow immunities)

Shadow Fiend on level 11 (creature level 7, 20 AC, 55 HP, 3 AB, all shadow immunities)

Shadow Lord on level 15 (creature level 10, 22 AC, 65 HP, 8 AB, all shadow immunities)

Edit: more complete stats in this post.

Well i think they all need damage reduc with out it shadows get droped in a heartbeat.
Also is it possible to make it on the familer list for wizards and sorcs i say it done in anthore sever it was escape from the underdark I think. (POTM is alot better then them in rp then them *Two thumbs up*)

well if they are from the negative plane keep in mind also they can be healed using Negative energy magic. even the Summoned Skeletal chieftain has only 36 health. but accompanied with buffs, and negative ray's for healing.. it can be pretty mean.

 just a little info

Got the shadow lord variety with a char. At that level, it serves no purpose except as RP prop or distraction, both options lasting a few rounds.
