Error Logging In
« on: April 18, 2009, 01:53:46 PM »
Hello everyone. I am sort of a new player. I played a bit before the PotM hak and now I have it and am back. I can log onto the server, but I seem to be getting an error every time I go into my starting location and what seems now my faction location, which are the same. I have the haks and such but not the optional ones. I am an outsider so here it is.

Last stored location and faction location:

Barovia - Vistani Camp

Any help would be appreciated as to why this is happening. And this is what I can scavenge from the error report.

Error Signature:

AppName: nwmain.exe    AppVer: 1.6.9.0    ModName: nwmain.exe
ModVer: 1.6.9.0    Offset: 003c89a9

Following Files Included In the Error Report:

C:\DOCUME~1\COMPAQ~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\a3ef_appcompat.txt

I seem to now be getting multiple errors when logging on. It doesn't seem to only be happened in the Vistani Camp. It just happens every once in a while. Bummer to, because I'm just not able to log on. I've tried re-loading the Ravenloft Haks and all, but it just doesn't seem to be working.

Any advice would be appreciated.

What does it say in this file?

C:\DOCUME~1\COMPAQ~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\a3ef_appcompat.txt

It looks like some kind of error report about an application compatibility problem by the title of it.

Could you give the exact error report? Did it give you a reason.. for the error?

IE:  "Critical Error" or "Video Error" ect.

Need more information to possibly be able to diagnose anything. Otherwise just reinstall NWN.

What OS are you using? First of all, trying clearing out your NWN override folder and make sure you have full rights to all NWN files and folder. Given the error, though, it could suggest that you are having a virus/malware on your computer. Try running the online scan at http://housecall65.trendmicro.com

I was in the OOC area when he has trying to log in one time.  His last saved and faction were both the vistani camp, logging to last saved caused a crash.  Logging to faction didn't, at least not immediately.
I suppose it could be a corrupted texture, that it loaded logging into one part of the map but not another, but that's a complete guess.

Yeah, that or a model - which tends to be the most frequent type of errors related to certain areas. Could be caused either by virus or disk error.

Another possibility is a faulty download.

So, todo:

1: run scandisk on your hard disk and watch for errors
2: try the online scan Zara suggested: http://housecall65.trendmicro.com/
3: reinstall nwn
4: redownload cep, reinstall cep
5: redownload potm-haks, reinstall potm-haks

See if you still have an error.
