Camera Hak
« on: April 12, 2009, 01:19:24 PM »
I STRONGLY recommend that people download this tiny little .exe. It frees up the NWN camera, allowing First Person mode, extreme third person distance for big fights, and it allows you to look upwards.

First person? Ooo. Now that's a good way to increase the sense of danger lurking around a corner. I usually just zoomed in close and low behind my character often to simulate a first person view. I'll try this when I get home.

Its amazing!  With the mod, just push the "Home Button" to activate it and simply push "End" to go back to 3rd person.  I love this mod!

This is amazing. I strongly recommend it as well.

On a side note, could we have a sticky topic with all the good suggestions we sometimes come up with? Such as this camera hak or that configurator mod that can turn the intro off and so on?

I downloaded and suddenly my PC sttoped running. e simply could not run anymore, was always in walk mode.

(and yes, I tried toggling trough walk mode, and many other thing.)

I closed the program, usede the "restore" function in the hak (yes, it has a restore file, thankfully) and everything went back to normal.

EXCEPT for the fact that after this run I logged off and when I logged on again, my character was a ghost.

Heretic already fixed it, and I hope there will be no more problems (and I don't really think the ghost status of my character had any relation with the hack), but here's the report.

It's self installing, just extract the files and then click on the exe. When you start the game you will notice you can zoom in closer and zoom out farther. To use first person, use the home and end key to toggle back and forth.

I retract my own comment, it is too buggy. When I go into first person, I swing forward and I see my whole body... like the inside of it... it's silly.

At Chris: A grand, MEH. I just see it as a new tool. I don't recommend the FPS mode for combat, more for immersive RP. I have yet to find a better adaptation! :)

Personally I cannot get use to it at all, though that is just me and I don't like to change the way I play/look at a game, after I have played it one way for like 6 years or whatever :P

Doesn't happen here Chris. I can in fact look down and see my arms and feet.

Hm. Using the hotkeys for full zoom in or out seems to not have a maximum value. You can only zoom in so far, but it doesn't have a theoretical limit.
Once you press one of the two buttons, you can try to zoom out all you want, but your camera will sit still until you swap modes.

To put it simple, it's like turning speaker volume down to zero, but you keep twisting the knob on your speakers until it comes off and then you throw it away and lose it and it somehow ends up on the other side of the world.

Also. I once got a memory leak when opening up NWN after installing this. I'll look for what the dump says on the file. It's probably something unrelated as it was hal-something (Haali media codec, probably).

I tried it, and its good. Not awesome, but good.

And to use it right, you must press the * in the keypad, then the "home" key.
If you just press "home" you will have the camera stuck inside your body and it will look awful.

It's a handy hak, been using it for a while. Very good for screenshots, though I have noticed that it messes with the custom skyboxes, meaning that since you can now look directly up, you can now see the generic block of greyish colour at the top where the skybox isn't there.

Yes, seconded. Press *, then "home", and zoom in with your mouse wheel until the screen goes into FPS. From there you can move around and get great FPS views. To reset the view, just press * again.
