Barovia
« on: February 02, 2006, 12:44:51 PM »
Just so everyone's clear on this, the Village of Barovia is a settlement in the nation of Barovia. Currently all of our areas are in the nation of Barovia (this includes not only the village, but Vallaki, the Old Svalich Road, Lake Zarovich, etc.)

Count Strahd rules the nation of Barovia. Nicolai Ionelus is the Burgomaster of Vallaki. Vanda Anatasius is the Burgomaster of the Village of Barovia.

What is a rough estiimate on the population in Vallaki?

The reason I ask is that normally I just use the visual scenery on the screen as a rough sketch with props, with the understanding that we can't have too many npcs or items loading in each area to keep lag reasonable.  So, typically I'd use descriptive language to fill in the areas with people around the market place and such to create an impression of folks browsing, buying, and selling and the like.

But, this is a gothic setting where the barren cobble streets that slink about crumbling buildings actually benefits the atmosphere.

Anyways, curios to have an idea of how many folks live in Vallaki, excluding outlanders.

The population of Vallaki is approximately 1,547. The population of the Village of Barovia is approximately 535.

The population of the entire nation of Barovia is approximately 27,700.

10,000 of the populace is vampires, and the other 10,000 is werecreatures.  The rest are a few natives, some outlanders, some Liches, and alot of rats.

Nah, there are like 100 wolfmen and vampires, but just like players, they can respawn.

I think you're being too generous with your estimation of natives. Hahaha!

Low population can explain why hiding is a hassle - you move into a village and next thing you know you are the gossip flavour of the month... and gossip spreads...

And Otake, Wulfgang Eberhardt, Aesin, Humiko, Bonereaver, Anthrania + whatever concept I am playing with...

I was looking around for the current year.  Isn't it around 760 or so?

for the pnp Ravenloft campaign setting, 1 year game time is equal to one year real time. The server opened up on June 1, 2005 with the campaign year at 760 BC. As it's been 2 years since we've opened, that would put the official campaign year at 762 BC. :D

*casts Animate Dead on the topic* I thought BC time counts DOWN? Then, wouldn't it be 2 years forward subtracts from the number of the year? So, 758? And, who the HELL is Barovia's Christ, anyway?

... I don't know whether to smack you ar smite you.

BC = Barovian Calander not Before Christ.

It counts UP, from the time Barovia was formed and then sucked into the mists.

Its not the same calander as the world, for the most part, uses.
