Genevieve von Drak
« on: October 28, 2008, 06:32:12 AM »

A messanger bursts through the gates of Castle Darkemhof. Riding a black horse with all haste. Arriving several days later at the gates of Swartzhafen. The exhausted messanger is pointed to the top of the battlements. He lumbers up the stairs with what little energy he has left to reach the captain over looking the training yard. "Captain I have a message...". He is silenced and haulted by the raising of the captains hand. He isn't watching the men training in the yard as grunts and shouts go up. Nor is he looking on as his lieutenant yells at the guards as they mess up the simplest of marches. No he is focused in on what looks to be a small maze. He watches as a slim feminine figure stalks through the maze avoiding the traps and pitfalls set up to snag her. She comes to the end and he grips the side of the rail while he waits for the final out come.

Looking ahead she sees her target. At last she thinks to herself after hours of slowly creeping through the maze avoiding the traps... Her mind now focused on the target at the table that looks to be eating his meal. She stays in the shadows for a long time studying him. Then she spots what she is looking for. Through her mind she quickly plays out her plan. She slowly creeps forward and unsheathes her dagger as she closes in behind her victim she quickly thrusts the dagger and hits metal missing the small gap in the armour and a clear shot to the vital organ she so desperately needed. She softly moans and loses focus. The orc enraged with anger at having his meal interrupted, back hands her with a metal fist sending her rolling. She reaches up to a quickly swelling lip and wipes away the blood as fear wells up inside her. The orc stands and lets out a blood curling roar. The doors burst open and the guards set upon the orc prisoner and detain him perventing any further harm to Genevieve.

The Captain shakes his head and sighs. Turning away from the training field he looks to the messanger for the first time seeing the Counts crest on the messengers chest. "Well what does the count want now". Motions for the messenger to step forward. He is handed a letter with the counts seal upon it. He quickly breaks it and reads through the passage. With a defeated slump his hands fall to his side and with the letter staying in his right hand. "this will set  training back for weeks" he mutters with a deep sigh.  "Summons Genevieve" he orders his scribe.

A moment later Genevieve arrives to the captain's quarters. Before he can speak she blurts out. "I am sorry I failed you sir. I will do better the next time I swear" Her lip fully swollen now and the side of her cheek turning color. "No your training is here by stopped" he says and pushes forth the letter. She steps forward and gathers up the letter and reads it. "Gods" she mutters. "I know, I have sent to have one of our messanger finest and fastest horses made ready for you" he states with a sigh.

An hour later a cloaked figure is seen riding out of the gates at a full gallop

To be continued.... *evil giggle can be heard*

She rides for those long aching miles to the castle she left two years ago think she was to ever return. Yet here she is.. Her mind begins to recall to the last time she was there.

"Genevieve" her father calls to her through the door. "Yes father" she replies. The door opens and a look of sorrow is evident upon his face and his eyes are sunken as well. "I fear I bear ill news my dear.." But before he could reply Genevieve Stands up from her bed holding her pillow as tears begin to fill her eyes. "Mother is dead isn't she?" she says. He only nods in responce. She dashes out the door and into the court yard and down near the tree she so loved growing up.

"I told you she wouldn't take mothers passing very well" Isabella says from around the cornor as she steps out into view. "I know but she is your sister all the same and has the right to grieve as you should" he states with a deep sadness. "Well we all knew it was a matter of time when one gets the wasting sickness that is plaguing these lands" She states factually. "Yes you are right my dear" he half heartily smiles and kisses her forehead gently. Over the next few months Genevieve begins to act out against everyone at the castle.

"Genevieve eat your dinner dear" he father say to her. "No I am not hungry" she says as she pushes her plate away and stands "may I be excused from the table father?" "No you may not!" his voice booms and fills the great hall. All eyes turn to the family at the head of the table. She just turns away and walks off still. "She doesn't listen to you any longer father. Perhaps it is time to send her away." Isabella says with a hidden smirk. "Perhaps your right, I was thinking of sending her to the military. Might straighten her up" says with a sad but firm voice. "Well that does indeed sound wise father" she say almost with a happy ring about her voice.

"Genevieve your father summons you to his office my dear" A look of sadness upon her chamber maids face. "Thank you my dear. I wonder what this is about" she says with a slight sigh. She strolls out of the room and down to her fathers office. He is in there with his elbows on the desk and his fingers entertwined with his eyes closed as she enters. Not opening them he says "I have decided to send you to Swartzhafen to join the army". "father!" She speaks out in protest but, he only silences her with the raising of his hand. "You leave  at sunrise. I have a detail ready to escort you there. I have also send out a messanger a few days ago to inform them of your arrival and to why as well. You are dismissed" he says plainly. She runs out of the run and to her bedroom. Passing her sister without notice standing outside the door against the wall listening in. A sly smirk plays upon her lips.

The next morning she walks down to the carriage that awaits her with all the men on horse back to escort her to Swartzhafen looking at her as it seems the word has spread. "What are all of you looking at?" she snaps at them. They all jerk their heads and face forward. She looks back to see if her father would come to see her off. "I didn't think he would. I hate you" she mutters as she gets into the carriage and it lurches forward taking her to her new life

The castle comes into view sitting atop the side of the mountain a small city spread at its feet... small columns of smoke arise from the homes as the morning breakfasts are being made. She sits a moment as her stomach aches  from nerves about her return to the castle "Will father even welcome me home" she states as she kicks the horses flanks to get him going again for the last few miles.

//Well I hope you enjoyed it.. Still yet more to come *smiles*//

The horses hooves echo off the cobble stone road that leads to the main keep of the castle. She stops as the stable boy emerges from the stables and takes the reigns. She flips him a coin and she dismounts. He smiles and nods and says "Thank you miss" and strolls off with the horse in tow. She realizes he doesn't recognize her. Her mind races have I changed that much....

She climbs the stairs to her fathers chambers with the two guards flanking the door she walks past them... They both follow her in protest as she enters the chamber. "Miss your not aloud to see the count... This moment is only for family members" he states as the other guard reaches for her. She spins around with a glare on her face. "I am his daughter you fools" she snaps at them. They draw back in fear as she barks at them... The guard that reached for her with draws his arm and says "Foregive me m'lady I didn't know you have....." Falls silent and bows stiffly. The other guard follows suit one runs off to inform the new count and countess of Genevieve return. She looks around the room and See's the window is boarded up and the room is dark and the smell of death clings to it. She takes her fathers cold stiff hand as she slides next to her father . "Foregive me father of all my wrongs and for not making it in time" she says as tears slowly slide down her face.

Genevieve returns to her room after word reacts her from her old chamber maid that her room is ready. "When did he die" she asks her maid?. "It has been Three days ago m'lady" the maid says with a lowered head. "It is also said that your uncle is dead as well... Some have said he was going to take the throne as count, But was pushed from the window as a wedding gift to your sister from the new count at her request" the maid states with a hushed tone. Genevieve doesn't seem to surprised "Well that sounds like my loving sister". "So who is this new count" she ask with some curiosity? "No one knows m'lady, He came in the night of a horrid storm ragged outside and moments before his lordship passed away. Your sister and Vlad von Carstein where wed that night by the priest tending to your father" the maid replies with some reserve as she looks around as if someone might be listening. Genevieve only frowns.

The door to Genevieve's room burst open and in walks Isabella. "Don't get comfortable you will be shipped back to your unit once fathers funeral is over" she states coldly "I wasn't planning on it Isabella.. So I see you got your wish finally... Should I congratulate you on becoming the Countess" she returns defiantly. "I should have you...." she is interrupted as a messenger enters and states "His lordship wishes to meet with Genvieve at this moment in his study". Isabella begins to speak out in protest but Genevieve only walks out.

"Genevieve von Drak" the servant announces her arrive to the count and then steps out and begins to close the doors but Isabella follows her in and he quickly announces her as well "Isabella von Carstein" he bows quickly and then closes the doors. Vlad stands and greets them both " Hello again Isabella he states, and welcome home and a pleasure to meet you miss Genevieve... Seems your sister has failled to inform me she has a sister" he states with a aura of charisma. "Well thank you m'lord" she curtsies before him. "Your servant said you wish to speak with me" she states flatly. "My down to business. I like that. Yes well seem your captain speaks highly of you and your skills. I think you shall be staying here and working for me if this pleases you" he states with a hint of a smile on his lips as holds up the letter from her commander. "No she cant stay Vlad.." Isabella blurts out. Genevieve seems to stop paying attention as doubt has filled her mind.. I haven't complete my training what is this... "Well what says you miss Genevieve" he states ignoring Isabella and bering back Genevieve to the conversation. "As it pleases you m'lord" she says to him. "Great well then I have a mission for you.. seems the lord of Waldnehof Lambert De Sarnovich has stopped paying his taxes to the count and speaks out against me on being on the throne. I wish you to deal with him and make an example out of him Genevieve" he states with a frown on his lips as he seems to think of the man and then turns his head facing her his eyes seeming to bore into the core of her soul. She seems to faulters a moment "Yes..... Yes m'lord as you wish. My I be dismissed" she says seeming to feel like she is being drawn into him through his eyes. "Yes you may" he says and turns to the fire place and stares into the flames.

As the funeral marches down the street towards the royal families plot that evening a lone figure sits atop a horse and watches it pass. "Good bye father" she states and kicks the horse flanks to get it going down the street towards the gate. Now focused on her first mission.

// Well I hope you enjoyed it. Thanks again for taking the time to read it. One more to go *smiles*//

She is riding through the woods in the night to keep from prying eyes. In the distance the wolves can be heard howling. She isn't worried by the sounds of it they have some prey cornered and are moving in for the kill. She keeps the horse going forward using the stars above as her guide when the canopy of the trees give way to give her a view. She makes camp just before dawn the day before she reaches the Waldenhof. Wanting to keep a far enough distance from the city but still able to make the city by the witching hour the next night. She lays on her bedroll with her stomach in knots thinking of a plan to cover ever possible scenario that can play out. Until finally sleep takes her after the sun come up.

She awakes with a start. Looking around all is in order the sun is starting its decent and the sky reddens to another night in Sylvania. She gathers her things and repacks the horse for another night through the rest of the woods and for what she hopes to be a quick job... her nerves being to flutter again and she bends over to throw up but only dry heaves insteat... after it calms down a moment she mounts the horse and starts once more along her way. She doesn't notice it at first but the horse does and starts to whine and move around with her doing what she can to stay on his back.. then she catches sight of the pair of red beady eyes looking at her from the blackness.
She quickly draws her sword the horse turns around again and she looks to where it was but its gone. She calls out to the night with her breath putting forth a mist as it seems to have dropped in temperature"show yourself". Nothing replays to her calls. A thick mist starts to form around them and blotting things out slowly as it sheems to swollow things.

The horse begins to buck and throws her off the horse and then runs off into the mist. The air being knocking out of her.. she rolls over with a moan as she fights for another breath. Gasping she feels for her sword knowing something is watching her but fails to find it The mist seems to grow thicker she decides to flee and runs through the forest blindly barely avoiding a trees as the seem to appear from no where. She starts to hear whispers of voices. So many she cant focus on anyone she keeps running scream "leave me alone". Until she hears the sounds of drums. Burst from the mist near what looks to her like a gypsy camp near a small lake. She looks around bewildered a moment. quickly she reaches for the map in its case at her hip. "This cant be right. This lake isn't on the map" she mutters as she ponders over the map. She looks to the stars "Gods what is this. they have changed. What sort of witchcraft is this" she states as she walks up to the camp to find out where she is.

"Good evening sir might you tell me where I am" she says with a lost look about her. Petre laughs and says "welcome to Vallaki outlander". "Vallaki where the hell is that.." she says as she scans her map. "On you wont find it on any map you have there outlander. Might as well throw that away it is of no use to you anymore. Welcome to the counts lands of Barovia" his eyes are filled with a sense of amusement at her lost look. He points her towards the city with a few warning of the night terrors and creatures of the old night. She hurries off hoping to find another that will get her back on the path she need. "I cant fail my count or my sister will win" She mutters as she searches for a way to complete her mission.....

//Well I hoped you enjoyed it. *smiles* Thank you so much for taking the time to read them. That was the last one no worries//
