Concern - Crowbars and Rogues
« on: September 10, 2008, 06:41:39 PM »
The new Crowbar item weighs 15 lbs and gives a +5 to bash checks on use. How does this NOT make my rogue with high OL obsolete? No one uses rogues as it is.

I wouldn't think so, since I believe there is a script in place that makes critical failures damage the goods in the boxes. Besides, even with the +5, some of the tougher chests are beyond the range of everyone besides Raging/Trollformed/Bull Strengthed casters or Barbarian Mountains of Muscle (aka Negnar).

Edit: Soren said crit failures are when you roll 10 or more below the minimum strength needed to open the chest, and I have seen chests in the 30s.

Not everybody chooses to build their characters to be a Jack-of-all-trades.

Neither my cleric nor my sorcerer can get into a chest or through a locked door, without a rogue or someone strong enough to bash.

I concur, most people are unable to get around w/o rogues... Rogues are still needed for traps and secret doors as well as their fighting abilities etc. and with the new item some chests are gonna get upped in their DC. Besides I'd even go as far as saying rogues are with the current server gear some of the most powerful.

Looks like it's time to get out the buffed ancient dire bears. :-P
