Personally, I think the weight is appropriate.  Let's be honest, the advantages are HUGE!  +3 ac is a lot, and add another +1 for crafted/masterwork items?

I think this balances the one hand vs. two hand decision fighters have to make.  I almost NEVER see people running around with great swords or double bladed items.
Perhaps this will solve that :)

I myself do not appreciate the extra weight, as it'll put me over my limit (before loot) for sure.  But, I'm willing to take the hit.

Also, +4 AC on tower shields would be nice, but I'm not willing to take the -2 attack bonus hit as per PnP rulebooks.  That would suck real bad.

I have two greatswords! One weighs 25 lbs. :( And a tower shield. And a longsword... and two shortswords, three daggers, a longsword, a spear, a halberd....

The list goes on...

And Bull Strength. And probably a high Str begin with. And a zillion -60% bags. And you don't wear heavy armor. And you're simply pimp like that.

Well people will have to rely more on rogues for looting purpose, not like my poor little 12 str rogue self has THAT much space to waste..

Not sure at the moment, but even with a Falk blade, a tower shield, and half plate, Geoff still had 50 pounds free and he only has something like a 16 Str, and maybe one magic pouch (the weak one) to help out.

As for looting, maybe the casters will finally start using Bull Strength on others more religiously.

I for one am glad about the change - makes large shields / small shields / bucklers useable, rather than everyone and his mother carrying around a metal door :p

So give us +4 AC and -2 AB.

Your steel Tower Shield already HAS the +4 AC.  Now it Has the Weight (still less then it should be) to go with the protection of a Metal Barn Door.  It's not an Issue, it's a bug that got Fixed.

The PnP tower shield has +4 without the bonus that being steel provides. Would be nice. Maybe.

Yeah, and your large shield has +3 AC.  So the tower shield should be +5.  I'm not trying to be stuck up about this, but the "you have +4 AC" is not a valid argument, in my opinion.  The whole point is that a tower shield is two AC higher than a large shield, not the static 4, it was just an example.

But I think I'm going to stop posting on this topic... everything that I wanted to say, I said.  Now I think we're just talking in circles, and I don't want to look like a close-minded d***. :)

PNP doesn't define a made up Material Bonus for a Persistant World in a computer game.  It does however tell you roughly what it's made out of, and since the game gives you a +4 for having a shield made out of the material that is defined in the books, you get +4, not +5.  If the weights to much, now that the bug is fixed, drop to a lower shield.  A +1 AC means nothing in the land of Exponential AB increases for server Monsters.

The Update adds the ability to proscribe qualities to build materials, I believe. Blue mentioned that briefly.

Right but previously the weight quality was broken.  Now it's not.  ergo.  no need to proscribe a new quality to it to break the weight again.

Rex, consider the "steel" versions of everything as masterwork or whatever. They are of better quality than the typical metal tower shields, so I don't see why an additional +1 is so hard to justify.

Because Masterwork Armor and Shields doesn't give you AC.  You can't Index made up Material bonuses from a computer game to the books in this case.

They don't? Oh. Ok. Then... uh, hrm.

Still, the fact is the tower shields normally gave you +2 AC over the large shields and we don't see that in our game. But I guess I'll just deal with it since we also don't get the -2 AB either.

Could do something to reflect an Armor Check reduction to represent "cool computer game material bonus".  Won't do much for fighters but could open up opportunities for other classes that armor ckecks and skill penelties would apply to.  That would be by the book.

Danmed thing's too heavy. I had to use valuable spell slots for Bulls Strength.  How's a poor cleric supposed to survive around here?

Mwahahahaha.

I can still lug mine around without to much of an issue, and Falkovnian Gear weighs a Ton anyway, their tower shield  is probably lined in lead and weighing 85 pounds.

Make a cleric with more than a 13 or 14 Strength of course.
