Spells - Blade Thirst
« on: July 18, 2008, 09:24:37 AM »
What about making Blade Thirst last a bit longer?

Its the most limited spell from all the weapon enchanting ones. You need ranger lvl 12 to cast it (that, assuming you have 13+ WIS)... It can be casted only in slashing weapons and the attack bonus wont ever grow over +3. The duration now makes it almost useless (1 round/lvl) if compared to the duration of all other similar spells (1 turn/lvl). I don't think it would turn things out of balance to make it last a bit longer.

Not a bad idea.  It would basically be a semi-nerfed GMW, since the level 12 GMW gets +3.

I agree with this idea.  Blade thirst is probably the biggest letdown on the ranger spell list because of its short duration.  Compared with (greater) magic weapon and even (greater) magic fang it's an absurdly weak spell.  To make things worse, while the NWN versions of those other spells were all strengthened in various ways from their D&D incarnations, blade thirst was actually made weaker from the version in the rulebooks.  It would be nice if given the restrictions the duration were at least on par with that of greater magic weapon, which every other spellcasting class gets access to.

Even if not the same duration, maybe 1 turn/ 2 levels? This would still make GMW better but would make Blade Thirst useable.
