Falling Hidden Sneakers
« on: July 01, 2008, 05:05:19 PM »
At the moment, as it came up in another thread that was on a broader topic if I recall, a rogue while hidden can remain hidden even if they fall.

It can be even worse than that.  For example, a character noticed a door opening and closing, yet saw noone.  So they tell Old Night that she thinks someone is sneaking about.  So Old Night uses his magic and two giant thunderclaps shake the ground and explode with a brillaince.  Ooc, I am informed that the sneaker failed all three saves, meaning the sneaker not only was knocked from his feet, but was also momentarily blinded and deaf.

Yet icly, nothing is seen by anyone except the sneaker.  Then the sneakker gets to make a smoove move by popping up behind them, instead of having first been seen flying through the air out of control while deaf and blind.

Is it possible to change this?

Carrib <3's his new spell

And yeah.. heh. I would like for that to work as well, maybe a script for being stunned/sent prone to eject you from stealth. Would encourage more 'careful' sneaking by those with high hide/ms but lower saves. Might make Balagarn's Iron Horn a semi-useful spell too, now.

carrying a light source should also make you instantly fail hide, and talking should be an instant fail for move silent.  I'm not going to hold my breath on anything being done that might in any way limit the super-ninjas.

Not sure if its a shadow dancer issue either... my Ranger who previously could sneak around skeletal warriors etc with impunity was tracked and attacked by one after I opened a door WHILE STEALTHING AND INVISIBLE to let a slime into the room....

Only one monster detected me but I was very shocked.

And Otake, Wulfgang Eberhardt, Aesin, Humiko, Bonereaver, Anthrania + whatever concept I am playing with...

Lets keep the thread on the topic of sneaks currently being able to hide even if they've fallen down to either an earthquake or a spell such as thunderclap.

Leaving this topic open since the original point is relevant, but don't turn it into yet another debate.

Also, Horrid doesn't affect undead.

If they fall sneak should be broken.  They can't DO any of the stuff they need to do to sneak, if they are knocked over onto their sneaky backsides.  Still, if one STARTED from a well camouflaged prone position, I can see that giving Bonuses to sneak.  Blasted onto their smart parts, they should be visible.

If a sneaker gets knocked on their ass, they're no longer silent, that's for sure.

Very low of you to assume that people would meta-game like that.  Most people aren't stupid when it comes to stealthers slipping through a door with them.

Sneakers can use the system to their advantage, aka sneaking through doors and tight space. Fine. It's only fair that in return the people being snuck upon use the system to their advantage, someone falling to his knees blind and deaf should come out of stealth or stepping on caltrops, maybe give a concentration check to keep quiet.

Also on the topic of revealing sneakers, is it also possible to hinder sneakers hide in snow? as well as encumbrance?

I find it stupid that a person can lug a corpse as well as five thousand pounds of equipment in alot of snow without being spotted -.-

or maybe remove the ability to hide with corpses altogether?

I dont see a problem with hiding with a body. It's possible if you have no problem in carrying it weight wise. An encumbered stealther gets bad malus as far as i remember, so it's already dealt with.

Has it?  Never noticed that with Hugo but then he's like Forklift Strong.  Have to give it a test.

Blending in snow is on par with blending with anything terrain-related, so there's no reason not to be able to hide in it.

Big giant foot sized holes where your feet are would be something of a give away I think.  Sure, if you're buried and waiting, that's one thing (and we know, most of the sneaks are doing that for the most part.  They stand right next to you.), but for the most part, crappy weather is not easy to be the uber ninja in.

Remember, if your using the camouflage spell. It says in the description that you blend to the back of the surroundings you are around. So it basically changes your outfit to change to the right camouflage.

Think it of the new Metal-gear solid 4 for the ps3. The guy has this suit called Octo-Camo that changes his camouflage too whatever he touches. It's sort of similar with that spell.

Camouflage

Camouflage

Caster level: druid 1; ranger 1
Innate level: 1
School: transmutation
Components: verbal, somatic
Range: personal
Area of effect: caster
Duration: 10 turns / level
Save: none
Spell resistance: no

Description: The caster's coloring changes to match the surrounding, gaining a +10 competence bonus to any hide checks.

It's sorta similar.

Edit: Also how would this be fair to say, if the sneaker RP going into prone position? You can't really go into prone.. for the spell will still throw you on the ground, but should the sneaker not void that, since he is laying down already hiding?

Yeah, the camo spell is exactly like the Octo-Camo system in MGS4, for sure.

And sadly, about people standing in stealth mode, it would be awesome if you could utilize the emotes like crouch/fall forward/etc. while in remaining in stealth mode, but you can't, so for anyone that spots a sneak, all they see is someone standing still.

It's definetely fun though when you can use emotes when in a party, since other players can see your stealthy RP.

~

Alas, though, we're straying off topic again.  I don't think the topic really needs much more added to it, since the main points were addressed in the beginning, with the suggestion of having stealth fail under the condition of being knocked down.
