Wizard Tower - Resale Pricing
« on: August 07, 2008, 02:03:38 PM »
The resale values at the tower are /horrible./ Anyone else notice this? Most of the scrolls only sell back for a pittance, magic items sell for scrap. You can get much better prices on an unfavorable elsewhere than you can with a favorable there. For being one of the only two "mage" havens, I'd think they'd buy magic items, scrolls, and potions, back for more. Their resale values are worse than the dwarves.

My dwarf and Caliban get better deals from Murnu then my Humans do.  Lot of merchant issues really should be recalibrated.

I always thought the stores should work on the basis of what they sell... I get better prices from Murnu or Crawler for gems, yet there is a shop that specializes in gems (even sells the harder to find one's like diamonds) and, yet, they have horrid buy-back prices. The prices should at least be comparable.

Should be able to sell a Steel Bastard Sword for more then 1 gp but you can't.  Lot of stuff to work through but as I recall from building my own stuff each merchant can be tuned, to reflect proper ration of price increases and such.
Be a nice thing if they made sense, but I'm thinking it would be pretty low on the list.

I always sell my scrolls to Bildrath.  Petre buys scrolls (I think), but I think he gives crap for them.

I find an absolutely Retarde amount of scrolls for Priests and Paladins, some of them pretty darn useful.  IF, I were a priest or paladin.  Most of the time I just dump them on the floor of either the ML temple to pay off the npc's for patching Otto up (lawful thing to do), or the Ezra church.  Otherwise I sell them to Petre and he doesn't pay that low, seems fairly spot on for mystical witch writings I thinks.

Well this is all IC information, if the tower has a poor rebuy/resale price that's someting to look into, the rest isnt for the forums really.

At least Murnu deals with your caliban.  Mine gets the old hostile treatment.  Maybe Braknak should try wearing a hood....

But some resale quirks should stay.  The Marketplace armorer pays more for armor than Murnu pays, just as the weaponsmith pay more than Murnu pays for weapons.  I have no problem with this disparity; armorers deal exclusively in armor, therefore they are more likely to find buyers for any armor that they buy and resell.  But I do agree that other specialist shops could be looked at (including the wizard at the mage tower), and perhaps racial issues could be looked at as well (ie. the elf merchant in Degannwy wouldn't be unreasonable in dealing more favorably with her fellow elves than with other races).
