Barovia - Balinok Mountains - Dvergeheim
« on: December 20, 2019, 10:42:02 PM »
Deep below Dvergeheim, something... gives. Dwarves flee, dropping their possessions, their hoards, their money, but it is too late. The vaulted ceiling of the Residential District, which has stood for hundreds of years, gives way, and the mass of cold, uncaring stone smothers the hope of the Dwarven people. Rumors tell of black-armored dwarves that fought ferociously and could not be killed, and of a small band of brave outlanders who turned the tide in the battle.

Word goes out that the kin are called home--back to help their people rebuild what they can. And a new word is bandied about from lip to lip, a term which makes those who know what it describes shudder with nameless dread--the Sleeper.

The corridors of Dvergeheim have been very busy lately with envoys from the Hammer & Anvil shop in Vallaki. Resources and materials for repairs arrive every Monday and it is by now commonly known that the Hammer & Anvil is always looking for kin and friends of dwarves for mining & resource gathering expeditions. Jirka seems to be the name spoken when asked who organises the expeditions

A Caliban briefly made an appearance at Dvergeheim, claiming to be kin.  He did not even have a beard.

For several hours the incantations of the High Priest Onar can be heard by visitors passing by the temple of Odin. A dead dwarf girl lies at his feet. Everything seems to be back to normal a few hours later, the body having disappeared.

Late in the evening, gossip stirs about a sight in the Tavern within Dvergeheim's Walls. That a Human entered, and began to shout, raise his voice, and accost another, before a Dwarf in gem-encrusted armor turned to demand an apology for disturbing the night's drinking. Upon refusal, the Dwarf grappled with the Human, and drug him from the Hold's walls, before allegedly throwing him to the ground before Dvergeheim's gates and declaring Holmgang; A duel to satisfy grievances had.

By the time the Human was returned within, signs of battle betwixt he and the Dwarf were cleanly visible, and after the encouragement of a firm strike to the side, the Human raised his voice in apology to the tavern-goers of the night. A second duel with a second Human followed just as shortly after, with the Dwarf dragging him by his haunches to the front of the Hold, and declaring Holmgang again. This time, for alleging that the Dwarf was some manner of criminal based upon his attire. Upon returning, the Dwarf replied boisterously to the Tavern-goers of the night, with a pride bold, obviously victorious.

"By Clan Az-Karad, let tha' insult not go unanswered! Gloreh to tha' KING! Gloreh ta' DWARVENKIND!"

And with that, Karaki Az-Karad returned to his drink.

Over the past months, a tiny, frail halfling with a brown pointed hat would be seen regularly frequenting the library of Dvergeheim. Scouring it's texts, tablets, and tomes.
