Vallaki - Western Outskirts

Upon the change of shift in the morning, fellow guardsmen found the mangled corpse of one of their own. His throat was torn, several fingers chewed off, his ear a tattered mess. Most notably was the "grin", as both cheeks had a deep incision that met at what was left of his lips. His frozen corpse had several bruises and claw marks on him. His crossbow was beside him, a bolt stuck in the mechanism. The blood, and his attacker's tracks were covered by the snow.

[Gossip spreads of outlanders invading barovian homes. One man, recognized as the drunkard in the kilt was caught, whipped and fined for breaking and entering and stealing the Romulich stocks of ale, while other barovians suffered a far worse fate of murdered family members in the middle of the day, and stolen goods from their homes. The barovians become more fearful and distrusting of the outlanders as more seem to group up and gather around their windows at night]

Rumors spreads among the guards posted on the walls that a giant wererat, leader of a pack of thousand smaller rats, swarmed over the outskirts, assaulting the church and the lady's rest mercilessly. The rat king's squeals echoed through the dark night when a sultry warrior woman in a metal thong showed up to face him. After a short yet epic battle she managed to chop him down with her sword. Sustaining many wounds she went on to cleave out the remaining diseased ridden rats while a short man in black retrieved the body of the cursed man that now laid where the rat king had been slain.

Ramika is seen with a constant flow of heartbroken tears on her face, either outside or moving into the inn. Any mention of the rat rumor causes her to burst into tears and even risk the night to leave any discussion about it.

  An elven woman in white furs and leathers is seen with the body of a dark haired elven woman in an elegant dress slung over her shoulder, in some makeshift sling.  She enters the Morninglordian church and was not seen leaving it.

Merchant Denalie Grant listens somewhat to the rumors she hears left and right, outlanders and local outskirts fixtures. Warning her at low voice how her last competition was murdered in public by agents of the red Vardo and taken away for later torture, Trish was her name, a little elf, she was a merchant like you but they came and took her. Her boyfriend Anethet will tell you, ask him.

*A Vallaki Guard was shot off the North wall of the Western gates to the Outskirts in the middle of the night. Nothing was heard and no one was seen leaving other then a guard carrying the body of the slain guard away into the slums.*

Local fixture, the lady in blue, Denalie Grant seems to be missing in action. No where to be found, no one has seen her. Her fate seems to follow closely the one of many others that attempted the impossible task to become a merchant in Barovia, perhaps it is of her that another merchant will hear about, at low voice, in hushed tones. Watch out little merchant, or you'll end up sleeping with the fishes like the other one that wanted to make a coin 'round here.

After days of waiting for his colleague to appear with his supplies, the elderly male curses as he strokes his grey mustache.  "Going Te 'ave Te find another supplier" He mutters, As he walks away from the ladies rest.  "Damn Inn". Pulls hood over his head and heads into the woods.

Rumors spread through the local taverns at night that the night witch is dead, as the Nurie hunter known as ellana is seen scattering ashes to the four winds before heading to the citadel and turning in a bile/grime encrusted ring. When asked, Elllana simplye states just that, "The night witch will trouble you no longer."

A man wearing a brown sack-cloth robe and in dire need of a shave was seen washing the cobblestone path to and from Vallaki in the outskirts. He focused particularly on the bloodstains, but washed much of the rest of the path as well, despite jeers from the wall guards and odd looks from several people, outlanders and locals alike.

A certain halfling, self-proclaimed princess and grand adventurer, has been hassling people about joining an organization called Balpfeetafone. When pressed, she indicates it's full name is

The organization supposedly is about freedom for halflings in Barovia, though the little "princess" has said many times her goal is to allow halflings back in the city so she can purchase more dresses from Katherine.

Outlanders taking refuge in the Lady's Rest and the Sanctuary in the outskirts were recently drawn outside at night by screams and weapons clashing to find an rather strange sight. A huge man well over 7 feet tall had apparently hacked three hapless outlanders to bits. Witnesses speak of it having one arm that had not a lick of flesh left on it and it's face was a perfectly white skull. They were unsure of whether or not it was the thing's face or a mask. There was a huge battle, and the thing was apparently killed or driven off, reports conflict.

What few locals who even go through the outskirts and hear of this wonder if it has anything to do with the recent goings on on Lake Zarovich. Making a sign against evil, they cuss outlanders in general and spit on the ground.

A lightcarrier (Yoshinaka) and an outlander (Wilhelm) have trudged by Vallaki's ladies rest, bodies over shoulders, and laid out 4 badly decomposing bodies of children for identification.

They were found in the deep caves near a pool of water... each of the bodies is badly decayed and stinking...

[The Children of the Orphanage marvel in their playtime during the early afternoon of the hot Barovian day. A certain two young boys are scolded for continously going out farther then their supposed too, along the road near the Orphanage.

The stink of three fleshy skulls lingers in the air near the crossroads in the Western Outskirts of Vallaki. 
They can be seen hanging from a low tree limb by a thick leather strap, and seem to have appeared overnight.

Each eye socket is fitted with a golden coin and a small amount a coins are arranged in some abstract pattern underneath them.

Something moves unseen among the western outskirts during the reign of Old Night, giggling in a childish voice. Strigoi? Vrolok...? All that is left behind are its knives covered in acid and the scorch marks on the grass.
