Ok folks, these books that are floating around out there that speak of the Dark Powers were never meant to be in the general loot tables. If you found them anywhere other than Castle Ravenloft, it's a bug/exploit and therefore cannot be referenced ICly.
I realize that there are
other ways to hear about this stuff, and those are still legit, but the books are off-limits unless you've read them from Strahd's personal library.
As for the Dark Powers, these enigmatic beings are so secret that even most darklords are unaware of them. If your PC somehow manages to find out about them legitly, it would be unwise to just blab about them like you're talking about the local gossip about town. These beings would prefer to keep their identities unknown, so if you're overheard blabbing about them like they're no big deal, expect dire IC consequences for it.
