Title: Vallaki - Western Outskirts - Sanctuary of the Coming Dawn
Post by: Maryn on January 28, 2007, 02:08:03 AM
Madison slipped in the gates of Vallaki quietly just past day-break.  It had been a long and dangerous journey from Barovia, and she was barely on her feet.  She considered the Blue Water Inn,  then shook her head.  Even though she was “dead”, she was sure they wouldn’t appreciate ghosts.  So she continued on until she finally reached the western outskirts.  “Just a quick stop in the church…” she thought.
She tried to step in without attracting attention, but the heavy rusty door creaked loudly as it always did.  When her eyes adjusted to the shadows of the old church, she instantly recognized the tall silhouette of the man who leaned on the wall in front of her.  A cigar hung lazily out of his mouth, and he stared at the front of the church, not paying attention to even the ashes that fell on his arm.  She stepped up quietly beside him as she had done in the past.
Leaning close to him she almost whispered, “Still spending your free time here then??” He glanced at her, then stared in shock, the cigar dropping and rolling away on the floor.   He smiled and pulled her into a tight hug.  “Aye… ya look well.”  After returning the embrace, she stepped back and looked him over.  Grinning teasingly, she reached up and touched his face. “Given up shaving while I was gone have you?? Aren’t there any pretty girls left here to impress??” They laughed together, and began to catch up on all of the happenings since she had left, eventually falling into a comfortable silence.  “Maybe life can be good in this dark place…..” Madison thought to herself.

// just wrote something up quick to cover her return!!  if I have time I'll rewrite it better. :)

A young woman in black is seen visiting the grave of Sgt. Termas.  She brings fresh flowers and replaces them every night, and keeps the snow from burying it.  She is sometimes seen staying to speak to the grave in a low voice.

An old man wearing a strange set of spiked robes has been seen placing bones and skulls covered with carvings near some graves, and leaning over to whisper something. The bones are carved with strange symbols, and the carving hollows are colored with blood.

[Upon the news of the murders of the Osteviks by the known Dragrins hands, the church of the Morninglord in Vallaki hereby disacknowledge any further affiliation with her, and contribute to the Ostevik Family to get them back on their feet. When Father Ilie is questions he responds with]

"We do not allow such brutal acts in our clergy. It is our oath and tenet to aid those in need, not to bring them harm"

[Ilie visits the temple, together Zachea and Ilie speak for hours on end before coming to agreement. With great sorrow, they open a small ledger and remove a name from the clergy registry. The older priest makes his way back to the Sanctuary with a heavy heart, and heavy steps]

"Murder Cannot be condoned, Slaughter of children is unacceptable in this clergy. No longer will our fallen sister smear the name of our faith and lord with such dark acts."

A faint wind is rushing for short through the church as the two slitted eyes watch the priests. A wide smirk comes uppon her face listening to their conversation out of the shadows. She nods satisfied.

"One by one they will come to me...." A faint and merely not there hissing laughter can be heard through the hall as she rubs her hands... then silence...

A older looking halfling woman is often seen praying for hours on head, and aiding how she can in healing. She also offers a friendly ear to those that wish it. She often give blessing to those serving the causes of faith and goodness. She does not share her past, or where she came from. But those from Faeurn speficly around the Northern areas of the Sword Coast are able to tell her accent of that of a group of halflings living between Neverwinter and Luskan near the forests.

[Zachea spends most his days in silence, recovering from nearly dying at the hands of a guard he find himself unable to aid them with their own injuries. Some whisper this was the straw to break the camels back, others whisper he seeks to gather clergymen to help find the burgomasters missing son]

Drudoc having overheard about the inccident speaks to zachea quietly one evening. Though internally she is angry she keeps a calm and collected look about her as she speaks.  "Father word reached me of what happened. If there is anything I could do to help, I offer it gladly to you." She says with a soft smile looking up at him.

[Several onlookers watch on as a large unit of guards enter the temple and approach Zachea. Before them, the Lieutenant forces the one who assaulted the priest to his knees shirtless and whips him. Many murmur about his apology being forced or coerced by the lashings. Words between Zachea and the Lieutenant are exchanged, agreements of no further violence from the guard within his temple made. Upon these agreements, the priest shows the attacker forgiveness and heals his wounds welcoming the guards once more into the light of the Dawn]

From the edge of the church a silent knight waches the display seemingly somewhat dissaproving.

mumbling in a low woice:
Better curb their teeth
And get to protecting those in need
instead of gathering fines to further their own ends

Fools ignorant fools

*he draws weapons and silently enters the crypt to vent his anger*

A hooded and black cloaked man also watches from the shadows.  A smile of approval and vicarious satisfaction crosses his flayed face.  After the event he approaches Zachea and says

"It's good to see the law upheld in such a lawless land.  People, even guards, need to remember their place."

He then walks out of the church adjusting his iron plated gloves.

The halfling priestess Drudoc speaks calmly one night finding Aran having overheard one of this asksings and seeing the torment and annoyance both in his face and words.

"Aran, please calm yourself. Not everything can be easily found or solved in days. Sometimes patientence must be had, and you must hold fast to your faith that the morninglord will provide a way in time for you." She speaks kindly and softly. To any observing its clear she has a kind and gentle heart even desipte all the horrors and suffering she has faced. "Sometimes just praying for a time for guidance might help."

Offering this one last piece of advice the halfling rises slowly chanting her own soft prayers in halfling granting a blesssing to Aran of insight and wisdom to him, before gracefully bowing to him and returning to her work in helping some peasants that had just come in.

Meant to have it happen about two days after Lucia was executed.

To any who enter the graveyard, a single blue rose, the entire stem stained red with blood,  hangs from one of the large wooden crosses. A single note was attached to it.
"I barely knew you, yet this travesty is one more crime the guards will pay for...
Though you may be gone, your music will live on."

Rumours spread that after a conflict between the Boyar Guards and the Town Guards, in which one of the Town Guards was killed after attempting to strike a member of the Von Zeklos Family, the Town Guard announced that  the outskirts was "no longer their problem" and that outlanders that had troubles there should seek out the Boyar Guards. Though it is not known if the Boyar's accepted the responsibility

It is not known to most who is in control if this part of the land now and rumour creep in, some about about no law enforcement in the outskirts and others of the Boyar guards dealing swift and fatal justice to trouble makers

*A young woman seems to have joined the cult as she often stands in the sanctuary, offering advice and aid to those heading below and who are willing to listen to her. She doesnt speak about the morninglord as much as she speaks against undead and about the need to leave the dead undisturbed.
Despite her helpfull nature a few disturbances in the sanctuary were attributed to her as touching the dead stored there for anything else than raising them seems to draw her suspicion, the local gravedigger can (and probably will) attest to that.
Despite that Zachea seems to tolerate her presence for the moment.*

rumours is heard that some people saw a dark robed figure walk in the graveyard behind the church. he was kneeled at one grave chanting some unholy words. when the figure heard that he was not alone he got up and whispered something and vanished by using magic.

people proceeded to the grave the figure was kneeled over and discovered a gruesome sight; Skeletal hand was sticking out of the dirt and moving... as if trying to crawl out. however it stopped moving eventually since the unknown necromancer was unable to finish the chant.

Witnesses report seeing two darkly clad women engaged in hostilities in the crypts. They say magics of fire and dark energy were exchanged between the two. The restless dead were shattered and decimated as the two fought a running battle thru out the crypts. One witness spoke of a large cat and a strange man with a helm shaped like a dog amidst the chaos. They speak of a green knight, tall of stature and strong of arm,who also joined the battle. Father Zachea and the Lightbringers had worried looks on their faces as explosions  were heard from beneath the temple. One dark clad woman came limping out of the crypts and left as she was heard saying "Blood God my foot..."

A pretty young woman with copper-gold hair and tan skin is often seen around the temple as of let. She seems to be constantly blessing the temple structure and the grounds, invoking some 'Wellspring of Positive energy" and trying to channel this force into the stones of the temple itself, though she also occasionally gives veneration to the Morninglord out of respect to his temple. She also offers "infusions of positive energy and blessings" freely to the passerbys when she has the energy.

(She is casting the level 1 spell 'Bless' on the temple at least 3 times a day. When she blesses the exterior of the temple she blesses it 3 times acrossed the front. When she blesses the interior, she blesses it four times acrossed the entryway, the two divans, and the stairs into the crypts. Passerbys are offered the level 2 spell 'Aid')

On the dawn several graves show recent marks from obvious vandalism...Foul and impure words are savagely but clearly hacked into the headstones of such celebrated and honored dead as Dalia, Termas, and a few others.

Light foot prints can be seen criss crossing over the graves, the resting place of the dead trampled upon unceremoniously.

At the nights darkest hour a figure clambers over the wall and escapes, leaving the blaspheming slander for someone to discover.

naught but folly

Locals were alarmed by shouts coming from  in front of the temple in the outskirts. Wearily they apprached to find two men professing to be priests of the Iron Lord engaged in shouting with a group of women. The men proclaimed themselves witch hunters and announced that they had caught a hin and would put her thru a test to see if she was  a witch. The locals were cowered by the strong magics invoked during the test which killed the hin. The men then proceeded to kill three other women who protested their actions, one of them a pregnant woman. A priestess of the temple was backhanded several times by the men for proclaming that the men themselves were necromancers. The locals enraged about the witches began to build a fire to burn the bodies. When it was revealed one of the women killed was a Barovian the locals turned on the men and drove them away. Hurriedly they burned the witches and retreated to the city as night fell. Talk spreads of Outlanders killing Outlanders being one thing but attacking a good and law abiding Barovian was horrible. Damn outlanders.

Rumours spread of a pair of Morning priests aggressively encouraging people to attend the feast at the temple. They were both insulting and intimidating with an undertone of violence in their words. Later claims by the Church that they were just drunks or drunk priests ring false due to the articulate character of the Priests and the lack of any signs of intoxication. Many wonder at this string of mistruths flowing from the Morning Temple in the past few weeks and some suspect they are willing to push the principles they preach aside to persue their own agenda of becoming a dominant faith in Barovia.

//Indeed. A good read and reminder.

Anyways, will re-post the guidelines for easier reference:

1) Do it with RP reason, of course.

2) Set the player on hostile.

3) Give at least 4 tiles between the trans. Door and the location where you lay the trap.

4) Set a ''placeable'' trap -before-  the actual traps; recommended having your PC sneaking and slide a tell over the player you are watching [DC: Search check] To determine wheter he spotted said placeable.

5) Use minor ''piss off'' trap before the 'big guns'' ones- I personally recommend ''tangle or negative''.

A man dressed in filthy robes, covered in dirt and mud, a shovel strapped to his back is often seen pushing along a wheel barrel, entering and exiting the crypts with bones and bodies piled high in that wheel barrel, taking trips behind the church into the graveyard. A symbol of the morninglord adorns his neck, muttering to himself in balok most of the way.

Renauld Bach, the infamous wandering monster hunter, is seen about the Church in the Outskirts lately. Wagging tongues assume he's in the area chasing some new quarry, but when asked he only responds "Nein, first I must be sure". He spends most of his time questioning travellers who've come through the Balinok mountains, and in Taverns asking people for stories about the "Bogey Dwarf of the Balinoks" that's become the gossip lately.

Father Zachea speaks in hushed tone of a large woman covered in tattered robes that walked in with two dead man on her shoulders, covered in sewage, she seemed strong and steady but extremely nervous as she approached inside, giving the coins to the priest from an old purse for their treatment and leaving as soon as possible, a guard on her heels. Before leaving she made sure they heard her say clearly in a soft and strong voice "This is your last chance". Outside she headed down the sewers as soon as possible, the same guard following her down there. A smaller man, covered in similar sewage tattered clothing followed her at the time.

Farmers to the north of the temple speak of hearing a strange almost desperate voice in the early hours of the morning. This voice seemed to carry from the old stone circle near the beetle lair. Afraid to investigate one farmer did here a few of the spoken words. Goddess..curse...Blood God.. holy ground were the only words he was able to make out. After day break the natives watched a dark clad woman stumble away bleeding profusley. One farmer snuck thru the woods to the circle and watched as several animals seemed to be gathered about the circle. The area seemed to hum with intangible power and the farmer quickly ran home. The natives have since avoided the area.

Whispers from the church tell of a man in silver armor wearing a odd goggle/mouth cover helmet helping to take the bodies of the deceased to the cemetery of the back the church. It's also said that faint sounds of crying can be heard if one is very quiet as the man passes through the door way to the cemetery.

The Lightcarriers find a dented and battered suit of full-plate Morninglordian Armor in front of the door to the church. Beside it lay the Robes of the Morninglord, neatly folded and seemingly undamaged by the tests of time or battle. The Morninglordians puzzle over the identity of the items' late owner.

The light carriers whisper quietly amongst themselves, particularly when their self-appointed defender Maryn is not around.

"Did you see her when she delivered the news of his death?  Thought she might die right here too. . . . and where was her bow?"

The other shakes his head.

"I heard she broke it in two. . . . reckless that one is. . .such a temper. . .  ."

His companion contemplates then murmurs back.

"You know, some people say she'll do -anything- to bring Father Celurion back. . . . -anything-."

At the disapproving stare of Lizuca, they quickly resume their duties.

---------

Later in the day, Maryn is seen in a serious whispered conversation with Horatiu.  Although almost all words are spoken too low to be heard by the general public, she breaks out in an outburst of, "Would that have been so terrible?!" After quickly regaining her composure, the priest sends her to pray, and the normally rebellious half-elf walks away compliantly to the back of the church to pray alone.

A man giving his name as Nostromo has been seen making enquiries with the clergy in the church. He enquires openly if there is any list of those buried within the cemetery and if he could see such records. The clergy were busy at the time dealing with the sick and politely stated that they had no time to deal with him. He is later seen scouting about in the cemetery paying close attention to the headstones. Parishoners only took note of him because of his unusual accent combined with his mild consternation at being unable to access any records at that time. It is unclear if he was being fobbed off or if no such records exist, but he stated it was his intention to return at a more convenient time.

((I don't know if there would be such records. If anyone could give me a heads up it would be greatly appreciated)).

At least two bodies have been found near the Morninglordian church. One was found between the Lady's Rest and the church, the other was found in the crypts, hidden in a coffin. Both bodies were missing their heads. On one of the bodies, an examination lead to the discovery that the head was taken off by something with a serrated edge. Something like a kitchen knife, serrated sword, or a saw. Church officials are unsure whether these events are related or are isolated coincidences.

A horribly mutilated corpse was found right outside the Morninglord church in the outskirts.
The bald head and ritual tattoing-scarification of his face makes him -barely- as Okaris Rage.

Upon closer examination, it was revealed to have, among others:

One wrist cut, tongue missing, broken fingers and toes, multiple slashes, both shoulders pierced through as if by a sharp bolt-like object, white fluids amongst his blood-probably poison. It also appears as if the the body imploded and then put back together again and is drained of all blood.

One of the locals who bring supplies to the temple and the inn seemed to comment: "Aye, I've seen that outlander die a hundred times and yet walk again. He is either one of them creatures of the night or cursed beyond redemption. The man of a hundred deaths har har"

*Mother Lizuca requests of Horatiu to post two letters on the wall of the temple for all to see*

Drudoc the necrophilic, bisexual hin has decided to attack out faith and convert to the faith diametrically opposed to our beliefs. Our now self proclaimed enemy, has through her actions and now words has decided to try to justify her actions. Let it be know her god demands Sacrifice! Her god demands Blood! Her god seeks our very destruction, that of every living thing. She says she wants peace, but only through fear does she ask for it! She asks for peace so she can strike from the shadows when we are not prepaired. She only fears retribution and justice for the crimes hanous crimes she has performed against all good people Outlander and Barovians alike. She fears retribution for she knows the glory of the Morninglord! She now fears the light, the light of the dawning sun....the light of the Morninglord!

Drudoc has proven to be an enemy of our faith and an enemy of Barovia! She is to be treated as an enemy, as one of her now chosen faith is...as a member of the undead she covets! She has foresaken her vows. By her letter she shows her delusion is complete! That she is truely insane! She has sided with the enemy and has become the very hypocrite she cites for her turning from our faith!  She cries out that Celurion is so foul yet she is following along his path. She strikes against us, those whom sent her to the asylum in hopes of providing her with care. The Asylum was provided a sizable payment to ensure the best treatment and care would be made available for her! Her actions caused the death of the orderly! Her actions brought about her very escape from a place meant to provide help! Her actions show she is a danger to herself and others!

Drudoc and Samira must be captured or killed. I would prefer she be brought to the authorities to be dealt with for their crimse commited. Assult and murder! In her letter she admits to the very crimes she is guilty of and does so with no remorse. I warn you all that neither she nor Samira should be trusted! That both are priestesses of some degree. be careful if you hunt them as I do not desire any more to fall victim to those whom pray to the evil that is the Blood God.

May the Light of the Morninglord shine upon you all

Mother Lizuca Lucaciu.

Upon opened by Lizuca (assuming she does) the letter would read as follows in eloquent hand writing and the paper smelling faintly of scented oils.

I never meant any of you harm you know, never wished to harm a soul. You tortured me though, back stabbed me during a fight of all things, because you were afraid of me. A fight that was with what you say you fight! Then you left me to rot for days and weeks on end in that filth of an ayslum. Do you know what they did to me in there? Raped, beat, forced me to lay in my own filth, drugged me, tortured me. No one ever came to visit to check up on me, no one but Samira. You all forgot about me. I finally did what I had to to get out. You forced my hand on those two deaths. All of you.

I suffered so much to help others, help you all. From my first day in barovia I fought isu to protect others, fought undead at all turns to help those that needed it. I couldnt even get a thank you for all I did. CELURION that egotistical fool of an elf made deals far more then I ever did. He left me to suffer at the hands of other undead just so he could go get a vampire. THATS MERCY?! THATS COMPANIONSHIP?! your all hypocrites. Claiming to do one thing but then doing another for the sake of your own skin and plans.

I have no qualms against you, any of you. If you force my hand I will defend myself, I have no intentions of harming any of you less I am forced. This is your one and only warning. Leave me alone, leave Samira alone. Or I will use all I have to make you pay, or die in the attempt.

Signed Drudoc

Another smaller note is addressed to Calor if Lizuca opens it to read it it reads as follows otherwise Calor will see the following.

Whatever we once shared, its over as I once told you. If you got any intentions of trying ot redeem me I warn you now Calor. They wont work, who and what I was is done with. Light has been cast away, and Darkness now resides in side. As I told the others, leave me alone. And if you see Luna the elven priest of the forests tell her to also leave me alone

Drudoc

A Warden of Ezra is seen storming through the outskirts on the way into the village, and when onlookers question as to what her deal was, some speculate that it has to do with yet another death within the Church of Ezra, following the recent death of Sonja Divic.  The outlander known as Ryoga had supposedly confessed without a scratch of remorse to the slaying and decapitation of a young Ezrite woman.  The woman was sacrificed by Ryoga, by at least one account, to unleash a demon that would supposedly grant him immortality.  Other accounts sound too fantastical to hold much weight with many, such as the one in which Ryoga was swallowed up by a shining portal in the sky.

Entering the church of the Morninglord an elven woman of chill beauty and lithe grace.  Her appearance was fair, pale, bearing an appearance akin to those of cold northern lands.  Dressed in white leathers, lined with fur.  Snow white hair, pale green eyes, a hint of jade.   Slung over her shoulder with a delicate care lay the cold remains of an enchanting elven woman known as Ariana to those of the outskirts.  The raven haired elven woman of stunning form was clearly dead, by poisonous bites or touch.  The white haired, fur clad woman in white leathers, dressed each wound carefully to draw the poison from the body with herbs, blessed waters and salves wrapped in gauze.  She remained vigil for as long as she could, the Temple Mystic Atlantia making mention of taking it upon herself to see Ariana's body remained unharmed or touched.  Za'Raa tucked a special lily flower into Ariana's hair to ward her body from evil spirit or undead, until her passage from the veil of shadow and mist came back to the physical plane.  She remained in the church for nearly the full week.. resting silently in a vigil over the body.

Since she has only been seen at Kane's wedding and has since locked herself in a room in the ladys rest, only accepting food and is rumored to have left a note with bianca to only allow four people the key to the room.
During the whole incident of healing, kane was seen going behind the church and burrying a small bundle in the grave yard.

For the past four months (in game time) people have seen a steady a change in morninglord caliban Arik, demeanor. Before being told by the guard to never leave the church under penalty of death, he was still is happy, helpful self. When ever anyone seemed lost, scared, or nearly losing hope he would do his best to bring it back to them. But in the past two months that has slowly changed.

Mostly he is seen up at the front of the church just standing there. A few times when people have come over to talk to him, they find that he has fallen asleep leaning on his spear. When not guarding with in the church he's also seen down below preforming his duty's. But many of his actions are slowly become mechanical in nature. The joy that he took in everyday life seems to be slipping away.

When he does talk he asks if the elf village had a good spring and summer. Or if the orphanage is getting enough food because he is worried that with out him hunting, he can't help them. Many of his morninglord family and some friends have suggested that he leave out the back way through the crypts. He shakes his head and refuses to leave.

"If me brake law den me not good barovian. If me no listen to guard, den me no better den da sewer people." After that he'll normally ask people to hunt for the orphanage or take what little fang he earns from selling the molds and mushrooms he finds in the crypts. "Dem kids need to eat and dem can't live on deer meat. Buy other dings fer dem like warms clothes fer winter."

But what some have also seen is that in over a month now he is hardly seen with out his helm on. When he now eats he takes it out back. And when it rains he asks not to be disturbed because he wishes to bathe behind the mausoleum. If he takes his helm off then no one knows because they respect his want for privacy. But something disturbed one of the light carriers when he over hear Arik talking to a dwarf smith. He had asked the dwarf if it was possable to make it so his helm can never be taken off again, even by himself and to leave a opening large enough to eat and drink from.

When Arik found out that Samira was captured he wander off to the back area. People heard a noise coming from the back and when they went to look they found him sitting and leaning against the back of the church. The noise they heard what Arik banning the back of his head repeatedly in the stone wall and crying loudly. Some went to stop him from hurting him self while other looked on in shock at the man normally in such control of his own actions and emotions.

Arik stopped when others begged him not to hurt himself. He listened and asked to be left alone and also promising not to do that again. As they left him to grieve they over heard him say "First me lose big sister, now me lose new grandmother."

Arik laid his helmed head into his large hands and slowly cried himself to sleep behind the church.

Donations of venison, bear pork, leatherwear, bows and copper-tipped arrows to the Morninglord temples both on the outskirts and in the slums have sharply declined--or have abruptly ended--in recent weeks as one lesser-known Barovian huntress' visits to the Morninglord churches have grown less and less frequent.

The forester, bowyer and acrobat Viorica Biserica is chiefly recognized by the peculiar green tone of her hair and the large hunting hawk which rarely leaves her side, but she has also gained a minor reputation among the Morninglord cult as a proficient tanner and leatherworker who tailors "Biserica Originals," a line of customized leathers and furs.  Such garments are typically altered and deviated from conventional designs--with portions of their designs reshaped, restitched, removed or replaced with alternate materials such as cloth, bone, horn, wood, copper or iron components scavenged from other armors--and no two Biserica Originals are alike.  As her trademark, each Biserica Original is then dyed partly or wholly with Hunter Green dyes--and sometimes with other dye colors as well, lending the armor a distinctive appearance.  The hides and furs harvested from deer, minks, raccoons, wolves, dire wolves, snakes, bears and crag cats are most commonly used in the fabrication of the Biserica Originals, with much rarer appearances of materials harvested from more fierce and elusive creatures such as razorbacks and dire bears.

Until recently, the huntress--spurred by pangs of charity and allegedly disappointed with the paltry prices offered for her furs and leathers in Barovian markets--was an ardent supporter of the Morninglord faith and habitually left her Biserica Originals as donations in both of Vallaki's Morninglord temples.  But hints at several disagreements and disputes between the huntress Viorica and the Morninglord churches may explain the recent rift between the two and the sudden withdrawal of her charity.  Viorica maintains friendships with a small number of Light Bearers and Morninglord priestesses who have shared trials and troubles with her in their mutual histories--most notably such figures as Mother Ana, the dwarf Teli and the caliban Arik--but no longer associates with the majority of Mornnglordian clergy.

Though she had once instigated a rivalry with the Vistani furrier Petre--dismissing the quality of Petre's furs as "shabby," "wretched" or "as if cobbled together and stitched at the hands of a small child," Biserica Originals have appeared among Petre's wares in recent weeks, suggesting that Viorica has attempted to make amends with the Vistani peddler for reasons yet unknown.  Biserica Originals have also appeared in greater numbers in the shops and groves of Degannwy, cementing rumors that Viorica maintains very good relations with the "kindly Wood Folk" of the deep forest and their village among the most ancient trees, a fey colony which most native Barovians distrust and avoid.

The ruined and destroyed body of what was soon later identified as the form of the 15 year old Barovian teen Florence Chisca former valiki guard was recently found behind the Morninglord temple, the things done to her were better left unsaid. The body was buried and burned, after attempts to raise her failed. Lizuca was overheard mentioning that there was simply no spirit to call back. To anyone that inquired that was present.

Gossip is on the high after an eventfull night at the morning lord temple! Many witnessed Joslyn Vladu, the wife of well-known vardo captain Lucian Vladu clearly threaten the life of the lover the Silver Lady, Rane Reynolds, how was at the time cowering behind her and trying to avoid a grey-robed man who was trying to talk to the couple. People wonder if it is related to a poster that the Silver Lady had put up about no longer working with the said merchant organization due to some incident.

If that wasn't enough, the very same night, a strange creature known to some as a troll and a couple of witches attacked the Silver Lady, kidnapping her. Her lover was maddened with grief and run out to look for her. Nobody knows what happened, but much later, while the sun was high, they reunited in tears right inside the temple of the morning lord, safe and sound.

Big And Little People For Ethical Treatment And Freedom For Halfling Outlanders And Natives
(BALPFETAFFHOAN)

The organization supposedly is about freedom for halflings in Barovia, though the little "princess" has said many times her goal is to allow halflings back in the city so she can purchase more dresses from Katherine.

*Bloodstains in the Sanctuary of the Coming Dawn are not easily cleaned. Mother Lizucia, and Light Carrier Horatiu, and Light Carrier Teli were taken to the Citadel with a bunch of guards which had been stricken down buy those of the Morninglord Faith. Whispers of the heavy handedness and brutality of the guards acted like thugs and went to far with striking a Light Carrier in the head in a place of Sanctuary then bullying Mother Lizucia. Further whispers of the Morninglordians healing the fallen guard after having defended themselves.

Nearly a day later Mother Lizucia returned to the Sanctuary, Horatiu and Teli are no where to be seen. Mother Lizucia was seen weeping sitting in the pools of the guards blood speaking of the injustice and how Horatiu will be made an example of in the outskirts for defending himself and others against what appeared to be thugs impersonating the guards. She is also heard saying "these are dark days indeed".

Very, very few people are yammering on about a peculiar occurence which took place in the cemetery behind the Sanctuary yesterday evening.  We're talking very few...two peasants, three...maybe four at the most.  Anyone else either didn't see it or just plain couldn't give half a damn about it.

According to the rumors, a young beetle-helmed gnome believed to be the last surviving member of the Okie tribe was poking around in the cemetery, plucking earthworms out of the ground and eating them, when he suddenly...exploded.

Yep.  Spontaneously exploded.  Boom.  It was a rather messy explosion, too.  Adventurer's gear flying everywhere, little gnome bones charred to a crisp...messy.

Several Vallakian witch hunters may or may not have assured the townsfolk that reports of a Forfarian-like redheaded witch and a badly wounded wolf (a normal, regular, ordinary wolf, not a dog and not the dire kind of wolf that's so trendy among animal-consorting witches...) leaving the cemetery around that time were likely the products of a trick of the light, or drunken hallucinations or whatnot.  As Petre the Vistani may or may not have assured us, the nearest witch-and-wolf duo was off in the nearby caves killing a metric ton of bakhna rakhna, who as everyone knows deserve a monumental rash of hot and bloody witchcraft-induced death for being the absolute most incredibly annoying magic-arrow-nocking archers this side of the Shadow Rift.

So clearly Okie the Gnome (one of many) ate a bad batch of earthworms and exploded from highly flammable intestinal gas or somesuch.  The people of Barovia would surely offer their sincerest mourning and heartfelt condolences to the Okie tribe during this time of grief, sorrow, exploding bowels and apparent extinction if only the Barovians could be bothered to feel pity for those filthy fey bastards....

( // ...and that's our story and we're sticking to it.  Right, Bud?  ;) )

Two Calibans were seen by a large group of people, both wearing well-made clothes of blue and white, outside the Morninglordian temple a few nights past. Whilst few drew attention to and abused the two, they both held themselves as steady pacifists, claiming that their Society stood to  disprove the rumours of evil and terror, and the equality of all people outcast for their race, providing they stick to a strict moral code.

This event faced many mixed reactions, some defending the two from the abuse, some content to sit idly by.

Perhaps the most significant point of these events was a man sporting a thick Barovian accent shaking the hand of one caliban.

The events came to a halt following some unexplained mists and ghostly marches, somewhat overshadowing the efforts of the two.

A thick mists rolled in upon the western outskirts at night, followed by a ghostly army of the Neuri Horde; infamous demon worshipping horse-back warriors, marching with a silent war chant upon the city of Vallaki.  Not long after, witnesses were taken by the mists, until all were gone, save one Ezrite.  Over the next few days, those who were abducted by the mists arrived one by one, or in small groups, telling their tales of how they had ended up scattered across Barovia; some upon the peaks of Ghakis, others within the lair of the feared Jezra, the Ice Queen, while still others, may not as of yet returned, their fates unknown.

The Temple is found in ruins, the scene of a butchers shop, the scatterd surviviors murmur of a figure clad in dark grimey armour, a menacing looking helm with thin slits as a visor from wich his heavy breathing rasped. He came for a Blind Woman known as Raywynn. The standbyers who tried to intervene with the masacre became part of the butchering themselves, numerous outlanders, including the Falkovian Witch to all's amazement turned into a Dragon, scraping the roof of the church with its head also fell to the dark knight. Horitau fell victim aswell as Liz after trying to halt the dark knight from leaving.

Deep set tracks led all the way to the lake, following it along from south to east even to the far reaches of the north, for those who dared follow them, would find that they lead to the batterd gates of Castle Ravenloft...

A bit of a scene occurred within the Sanctuary of the coming dawn.  Several gathered within to pass the night, and amongst them the Rokuma girl Yonemaru, that of late, had been selling wares to the people in the outskirts.  She became the target of harassment from a gnome and after others came to reprimand the offender, she slipped out the side door. From her body language throughout the incident, it was apparent that the whole affair had caused her no small emotional distress. Curiously, since this incident she has not been seen about the city of Vallaki any longer.

A strange scene was witnessed by several adventures down the crypts. A some sort of big shadowy figure was briefly spotted deeper part of the crypt and in the upper floor, a crypt door was opening and closing by an unseen force. Not long after the area was covered in thick darkness and the people present were attacked by some sort of ethereal beings.

Rumors spread like wildfire through the church and outskirts of the attempts of Eshe to cure an old man of his affliction.  The priestess of Isis cast a spell of monstrous regeneration upon the man after he was sobbing like a child and scremed "Why?".  The man wheezed and coughed as the spell took effect, and after a few minutes he shouted that he had been cured in sheer joy.  He jumped up from his seat and smiled at Eshe as he lowered his hood.

Speculation of what happened next varies greatly, but it is widely said that the man became hideous once more as the spell wore off.  It is said by all that his body shriveled up and once again became crippled, and that the blonde hair that briefly appeared became ghastly white and fell out.  The man fell to his knees, screaming in utter torment at the transformation, and when the kind priestess Eshe attempted to help him up he snapped at her, pulled his hood back up, and screamed for her to stay away from him.  The 'man' was last seen stumbling out of the church into the night.

Over the course of one long night, a small pile of corpses appears in the apse of the sanctuary.  Each appears to have fallen to some common horror of Barovia:  vrolok fangs, wolf maulings, and even some mink bites.  Each is also missing its hands, which have been neatly and cleanly severed at the wrist.

She could be heard addressing the renown prostitute Alana. Later on her company, a black haired, purple clad lady came from the back.

Further discussions brought up are talk of future marriage of the young Mother Lizuca, leaving Horatiu with a rather dour expression.

A morbid scene was witnessed within the Sanctuary of the Coming Dawn.  People had gathered around watching a foreign woman dancing when all was interrupted by the appearance of a young woman dressed in black.
To this shock and dismay the woman unsheathed her katana and leaped at a one of the men with murderous intent. The man was brutally butchered to death before anyone could react. The Clergy of the temple were quick to restrain the woman, who had dropped her bloody weapon and was sobbing over the mans body. It was later revealed to have been the young woman's own husband that she murdered. No one knows exactly what could drive a woman to do such a thing. The aftermath of the scene was a display of remorse from the woman up until the arrival of the Vallaki Garda. Even Mother Lizuca herself was seen to have shared calming words to the distraught young woman.

An unusual but inspired morning prayer announced a defeat of a thousand undead laid to rest by a single regular faith member.  A man that hunted undead in the crypts below, relentlessly unless stopped by the occasional mishap and the Invidian war.

The mysterious and often called "It's a Van Donner" in the "common" tongue amongst outlanders proclaimed his personal victory over the unrestful bodies below and elsewhere.

Upon early accounts of the man spurring from even Barovian village, this Morninglord man may have been involved in aiding the Bavarian forces from nearly the beginning of the Tsar's Pool to the Assault on the Gates of Ravenloft as a lowly healer amongst the less severely wounded, transporting the more severely wounded soldiers back to their homes to talk to their sons, and even comforting widows afterward.

Without any official announcement, the news has spread that Father Donner was formerly stripped of his earthly ties to the Sanctuary of Coming Dawn.  This was done at the behest of Light Carrier Alyntha Addams with the Dawnspear at her side, as she was supposedly speaking for many more people than herself despite the edict of equality amongst the faithful.  It was announced through Alytha that Dawnbringer Powers and Light Carrier Powers acted in favor of the suspension as well inside of the temple.  None of which either discussion of approval took place openly.  Some tongue waggers say that the Dawnspear or his Light Carrier wife wouldn't deal with any member that had any remote ties or standing with the Bavarian Army.  Which is all the more confusing, because the Village of Bavaria congregation aided such as well as the outlanders present during the last failed siege on Ravenloft.

A handful of knuckle hunters are more worried than relieved, as their protector and sage has no longer the armored vestments of his congregation.  It is said the newly ousted Father would declare that he was cut off beforehand, his own mail to other temples stolen without remorse, and generally the minority of the ones closer to the Dawnspear acting more clandestine against members of their own church.  Rumor has it that some respected members, may have supported Father Donner.

One thing is for certain, the Mistress cultist has surely gained a small little foothold in outlander popularity.

A statue of a hooded, cloaked figure has been taken into the church. The statue has been bashed into three major pieces, the largest part starts from the head and ends at the stomach, than the second part continues from the stomach and lasts till the right foot missing the left leg from the thighs, for which the left leg is the third part. Smaller pieces are missing, allthough luckily, those parts are parts of the clothes and armor that are carved on the statue to wear.
It was stated by the man who brought him in, that it might have been once a living thing.
If the statue really was once a living person, powerfull magic might have caused this transformation, but by whom, and why was it bashed, remains a mistery.
If however this statue was made by someone, than that person must have been a gifted stoneworker. Since the figure looks as if it is about to move, his hand reaching for his sword, the surprised look on his face, suggests it is ready to defend himself, purely a masterpiece, a shame someone did not realise it, and damaged it so badly.

A small figure in violet clothes, inspected the statue, and has recited strange words, after which the stone slowly turned to flesh, whichafter a kind stranger offered her help in reviving the corpse.

Atlantia, light bearer and temple mystic has been seen quietly attending duties. Though her movements and actions have been with drawn of late she still offers a smile and kind words to those who greet her. Many may have noticed that her demeanor has been more solitary than usual of late, but when questioned she onyl replies that she needs some time to figure things out after being tied to an alter once again over near the ruined castle to the west, seh refuses to divulge any further information on the subject. During the day she may have been spotted near houlgraves book shop or hanging around the temple, as if searching for some sign of what to do next. Though seemingly distracted she has also been seen leaving the temple at night and going on long walks, mumbling to herself quietly. If any would try to catch up to her to learn of her actions she promptly pauses and smiles at them before dashinging into the woods and seemingly vanishing from sight all together.  It may be unknown as to what her intentions or actions are at this time, but she seems to be on about something in a rather hap hazardly determined fashion. Though, this has not come as a suprise or even viewed out of charecter by those in the clergy of the church who know her.  Ever since she was intrusted with the staff of light she has always been about odd things and missions for the church, though none can really say what that might be.
Perhaps Father Illie might know something more, but who can say, after all he knows her the best other than the father in Barovia village.

Warren Lucianovich, the local undertaker often working around the Outskirts cemetery, has been asking people to keep an eye out near the graveyard.. especially during the old night. He seems particulary grumpy that his work is being undone..

Apparently several graves have been robbed recently.. or at least disturbed. Most of them recent burials, simple outlanders with no headstones in place.. nobody who would be truely missed. But it is still worrying that an increasing number of corpses appears to either be missing.. or left mangled in their shallow resting place under the dirt. Missing limbs, eyes and fingers seem most common.. some ripped off, others seemingly cut off clean.

On top of that a rumor is spreading that the undertaker, together with a few outlanders, found back some of the missing recently burried corpses inside the catacombs.. right underneath the church of the coming dawn. This is suggesting a high ghoul activity in the region.

Apparantly the creature bit the man, and infected him with some poison, but he was able to get it out fast enough from his system, thus escapeing this outrageous
attack with a bruise, and a day lasting dizziness. The creatures corpse however was not found, so it is likely that it was able to flee, when the Light carriers and the priestess took arms, to defend the man who was attacked.*

In his arms is the wrapped body of a woman, his face in sheer upsetment and distraught as he holds onto the woman whispering in her deceased ears from time to time, or kissing her stone cold lips. It is not often that he stays away from her, when he does leave he returns with more and more flowers for her. It is rumored that the woman was his fiancee'.

The Lightcarrier never returned. The knight in question returned alone and wounded, claiming to have been attacked by a black robed vampire witch.

However, the superior training and combat experience of the soldier proved to be the greater, and the Caliban was beaten harshly, and thrown back down into the sewers to lick his wounds and learn his place.

Despite Markus's Claims, when Bratu The Lightcarriers corpse was pulled from the catacombs an unnerving sight was beheld.. the corpse's wounds resembled as if it had been stabbed form behind by a spear and then multiple stab wounds from a spear decorated the rest of his back creating a mess of a slaughter. This brings suspicion to people... However there is no proof that this was indeed markus's doing. without a doubt markus had indeed been attacked by a vampire from his wounds... But was that the only occurrence down there?.. People can only guess.

He was last seen fleeing from the Garda back into the crypt, a sure sign of his treachery unveiled.

after hearing such rumors an outraged markus denies them all demanding proof of such a conspiracy. He then proclaims his fleeing an action based off of the truth that being blamed for such a travesty would have gotten him killed on sight as an outlander as he would likely not have been asked for his side of the story in such a situation. Markus offhandedly also comments that the pale half-orc likely finished the job with the young girl, stashed the body and then attempted to save himself by fabricating such a lie against markus. No doubt there is a vrolock below however markus also claims that such a vrolock tried to kill him not long ago... so why would he work with it?

People have by now heard about the battle in the crypts beneath the morninglordian temple. After three people,a tall 6' human, a black and red mailed and hooded figure, and a black clad woman went beneath, the three traversed and fought bravely through the hordes of undead but upon reaching near the bottom the woman, human and hooded figure were suddenly encountered by a large panther who snarled at the red and black clad man. to their horror they witnessed the man brutally shift into a wererat and battle the panther, they fled and son after the wererat emerged somewhat up to fight the brave ezrite man who in the end managed to turn him away before having to flee due to the rats regenerative capabilities. The man fled and his identity is still unknown but it is unmistakable that he is usually donned in black and red full plate, and is certainly a capable human fighter when not in his form

Battle raged tonight in the Outskirts: battle of the most overt magical kind, with flashing lights and dazzling spells shattering the peace and quiet of the evening. Undead horsemen and entities threw themselves at a rag-tag collection of heroes, seeming to target a mage shrouded in shadows in particular. Wave after wave could be heard; with attendant shouting, screaming and other battle-noises. Then, just as suddenly, all went silent and the undead ceased their onslaught, as if the focus of their attention had shifted elsewhere....

A Symbol of the Morninglord has been made out of undead bones and rings. The Symbol of the Morninglord sits on top of the pentagam with a great sword in the middle sticking upright. There is a gold ring on the hilt of the sword and a message below the symbol written in chalk.

"Know that all undead that haunt this crypt will be destroyed, be it by the tortuous path of fate or at my hands. I will gladly do thy Morninglords work. -Sir Solomon Burke -

A dark figure has taken up residence in one corner of the church. It sits, swathed in a dark cloak, hood and veil... watching. When adventurers return from the depths with tales of comrades fallen, the figure rises, steps down into the depths and returns with whatever remains may be found.

As dusk descended on the Gray City, two figures fled into the sanctuary at a pace that hardly seemed humanly possible--as though they knew a fearful fiend did close behind them tread. Inside, one of the two produced a stash of diamonds worthy of a prince...and a body.

Sometime later the two passed with a third--who appeared to have suffered some gruesome ordeal--into the inn.

Little could be discerned from the many dire mutterings that murmured throughout the long night from below the inn's serving area. Perhaps it is typical Barovian exaggeration of Old Noapte's fears, but one rumour in particular has caused the most local terror: that the third man described an entire murder of fell undead roaming the Count's realm and--one by one-- isolating and slaying any who might have the strength to oppose them.

This night, Coporal Rodica Stolojan, gravely wounded with a hollow look in her eyes, entered the Sanctuary. Almost as if compelled, she uttered these words to Lizuca, witnessed by the various folk taking shelter in the church at night.

"If the Morninglordian priests do not melt down their idols and leave them as offerings to the Rittmeister, more guards will die. If they do, I will be lenient."

The wounded Corporal then seemed to snap out of her daze, only then seeming to realize where she was and what she was doing.

When the first glows of dawn appeared on the outskirts of the town of Vallaki, an armored man, moving hastily, walked out of the southern forests. He was carrying a severely wounded woman, barely alive, wrapped in improvised bandages. He carried her inside and placed her on the ground in front of the priestess, collapsing nearby afterwards; nearly animalish, continuous growl and moan escaped his lips as he did so. After a long moment, unresponsive to any words spoken to him, he crawled to the nearest wall and leaned on it, conscious, but unaware of his surroundings. His eyes were clearly insane.
A long, long moment passes; his shaking hands reached to the belt pouch to take out a self-made cigarette. After a great struggle he managed to light it - a thin smoke escaped his lips when he took a first drag.

Despite the typically Outlander-phobic gossip emanating from the Citadel, many supplicants in a crowded sanctuary would have witnessed less indifference to the fate of the city's garda than such rumors imply. An unusually homely Elf (who declined to involve himself in the melee) nevertheless prevented the further mutilation of the fallen corporal's body by carrying her into the temple and paying the Morninglord priests a large sum of gold to see whether her soul yet remained.

He then stood by for several hours in hopes her life would return and to ensure against other attempts to ferret her away.

A female Caliban whom he thwarted, in fact, received violence for her efforts, being punched hard in the face--though not by the Elf--until she collapsed in the temple's doorway and had to be revived herself. Thereafter the Elf departed into the night, leaving the stricken corporal to the care of the man who had taken down the Caliban.

Gathered in the old sanctuary, A sermon took place followed by a ceremony. A celebration, as a young woman shed her white robes in the light of a new dawn. An oath that echoed throughout the old walls as they heard her name: Kaliara Verafall

And it was on this dawn, that a new Dawnbringer was born.

[Afflicted townsfolk shuffle into the Sanctuary of the Coming Dawn in droves. Viscous mucus trailed in rivulets from their orifices as they shuffled and hobbled to the perimeter of the temple's interior.  Their strength depleted, they collapsed into writhing heaps upon the cold, stone floor.  The malodorous stench of plague accompanied them; a putrid, acrid aroma that wrinkled the nostrils of those that would venture too close.

A cacophony of coughing, retching, and guttural moans filled the interior of the sanctuary;  the clergy working with fervor, sweating beading and dripping from their brows as they sought to render aid and solace to the diseased.]

A blonde haired male light carrier can be seen outside the Sanctuary at several times of the day and night lately, working at what appears to be carpentry with a singleminded determination.

Oftentimes the furniture pieces end up crooked or with something otherwise wrong about them so he frustratedly takes them apart only to reassemble them again.  The few times that the pieces do come out the way they are supposed to he invites people to sit on a chair or bench or try out a crate, chest or barrel and give feedback.

Sometimes the Garda tell him to move some of the furniture further away from the trade road, it can get a bit cluttered. He does so but seems to be asking their input on it too!
Why the iadul is an outlander out on that land there, sawing and with a hammer and nails so many hours each day?

A heavy veil descended upon the interior of the Sanctuary of the Coming Dawn, the air thick and palpable.  Visages of the heralds of hope wrinkled with the malaise that clung to their forms, sticking to every inch of pulpits and cold, rough-hewn pews.  Mutterings spilled between the light carriers, Horatiu moving to offer a gesture of solace to Lizuca, a strong, calloused hand upon her robed shoulder.  The countenance of the clergy remained the same to the undiscerning eye, affixed smiles and stalwart stances that defied the pervasive ambience.  Still the dark shroud enveloped the dilapidated chamber, raising the gooseflesh upon those that entered the domicile of the Dawnfather.  This morning, the coming dawn was muted, dulled – and the warmth produced seemed to never reach the skin of the faithful.  The bell’s pull rope laid in a tattered, discarded heap at the base of the dais and a foul, fetid liquid dripped from the heights of the belfry.  The Morninglord’s intonation, the bell’s sound that reverberated through the outskirts, was eerily silent.

Father Gariss gave a solemn sermon and announced the death of Dawnbringer Kaliara. He used his sermon to call on those to remember her in life and the good she had done in service to Lathander. He gave a message of hope and redemption over despair and undeath; as is commonly preached by those of the Morninglord's faith. He solemnly offered his aid to those in need prior to his departure to Vallaki in the early hours before dawn.

A couple of dark clad warriors seemed to descend in the crypts, alone, one after another, each followed the other in a disparate span of time. The band seemed to gather deeper in the crypts, though some adventurers report the band to be way larger than the just two warriors reported from the Lightcarriers, hinting that half of the company reached them through a secondary entrance. A Black Hand symbolism flied proudly on a few dinstictive individuals among the pack, they seemed to come in contact with another assembled group of adventurers who had just cleared most of the skeletons. No violence erupted, even though the black clad flock seemed to intimidate quite much the others solely by their presence. While most of the adventurers hastely reached the top, a woman was reported to linger in the last chamber with the band of Black Handers for a prolonged time. The woman eventually reached the others unharmed, though shocked.

When asked about it he says he was found unworthy and that his best simply was not good enough.

A pale-skinned, dark-haired figure wearing the red and white of the Christian Templars tosses and turns on one of the bedrolls along the wall of the sanctuary. For the handful of souls who have seen him sleep before, the sight is nothing unusual.

Suddenly, he awakens with a scream. He pushes himself upright with some effort and doubles over, his head in his hands. After a moment, he tears open his satchel laying nearby and removes a small object wrapped in cloth. He stares at it for some time, his features relaxing but his eyes cold and without their usual brightness.

Eventually, he gingerly returns the bundle to his satchel, pulls the bag closer to him, lays back down, and forces his eyes shut.

The pale-skinned, dark-haired half-elf in the red-and-white tabard of the Christian Templars is seen entering the sanctuary and making his way to his customary spot for prayers. As he kneels, a pair of shaky hands unclasps the small golden crucifix around his neck and clutches it in front of him. After some moments, he stands and moves to the bedrolls, settling in for the night.

He awakens with a bloodcurdling scream hours later. After several heavy breaths to compose himself, he apologizes to the Morninglordian clergy for the disturbance, then sits up, leaning against the wall. Sleep does not return to him.

In the pre-dawn hours of a rainy Barovian morning, a figure in the white and red of the Knights Templar is seen speaking with a pale-skinned, dark-haired, fanged woman behind the Sanctuary of the Coming Dawn in the outskirts. As the sky begins to brighten, she departs.

The knight remains outside and speaks with another woman in front of the temple until well after the sun rises. He is cautious to keep his hands concealed, but when they're visible, they shake with a violent tremor.

Eventually, he excuses himself and enters the sanctuary, where he moves to his customary spot on the dais for prayer. As he kneels, he removes his helmet, revealing deathly pale skin and jet black hair. After murmuring a few words, his brow furrowed, he rises and makes his way to a bedroll.

Sleep does not come to him.

The familiar hooded figure of the half-elf Christian Templar, the so-called "Knight Warden of Vallaki" is seen entering the sanctuary. As he's done hundreds of times, he makes his way to the dais and kneels for his customary prayers. However, when he tosses back his hood, his skin is ashen gray, his hair deathly white, and his eyes devoid of color.

His brow furrows as he begins. His figure slumps as if a great weight had fully come to rest upon him. And he weeps bitterly.
