Title: Animal Empathy
Post by: divine-darkness on March 29, 2018, 06:20:30 PM
Not entirely a balance issue, but certainly an issue none the less.

So I play a druid, and when you empathize an animal it lasts for only a few rounds, like 1min RL. This creates two problems;

1) mid-combat it just turns on you. So its seriously dangerous to keep it about.
2) mid RP it turns back on the party.

I actually see no issue with control until rest, but the current iteration swings really too far to the other way.

Your first post is incorrect. Animal empathy lasts for turns / character level. So by mid level, 10 or so, you'll have 10 minutes of domination. Even brand new character will have twice the duration you posted.

As for your second point, you have to periodically refresh you empathetic bond by dropping the domination and reapplying it. It might be possible to allow for it to be made able to be refreshed without dropping domination, although that raises other balance concerns.

Is this a new change? I've never noticed a timer on animal empathy

The duration of a domination with Animal Empathy always was 1 turn/level.

I need to make an Half-Orc ranger just to try this out.
