Title: Mistakes were made...
Post by: SeawolfX13 on February 25, 2017, 05:32:36 PM
As Sean sat in the home of the halflings, he couldn't help but mutter to himself and shake his head "Mistakes were made friends... mistakes were made".  His quest for power had once again resulted in him sitting destitute in the home of these simple but kind halfling folk.  Some rest was definitely in order for the elf.  Several busy days had passed, and he definitely was feeling the drain of the constant battle.  He leaned back in the chair and wondered what misadventures his compatriots were getting themselves into during his hiatus....  He closed his eyes and began to drift off... He could almost see it....

Elsewhere, through dense mist.... miles away...

As Brog trudged along the road, he suddenly saw a small butterfly float lazily across the meadow.  He glanced at the butterfly...  He knew he shouldn't, but he just couldn't resist...  Like a small child, he charged after the butterfly, yelling and swinging his axe.  The creature floated about blissfully as the dwarf flailed about uselessly in the clearing.  To an outsider watching, one would think the dwarf in his metal armor had gone mad, yelling gibberish and raging about the meadow.  The truth of the matter was Brog knew exactly what he was doing, and could not have been happier.  Brog knew folks thought him simple, and he didn't mind one bit.  Brog had seem many horrors in his life, simple joys like chasing a "flutter bug" around a meadow brought unadulterated joy.

Finally exhausted, Brog laid down in the meadow with a happy sigh.  He had business to attend to, but didn't a dwarf deserve a break once inawhile? Too much work and he'd end up miserable just like all the rest of his clan, endlessly toiling away under the mountain.  For what? Nothing that would bring him the pure joy of catching the flutter bug, that is for sure.

As he lies there, contemplating his place in the multiverse, where this twisted road may take him, he heard a rustle near the edge of the meadow...

Brog jumped to his feet, grabbing his axe in one motion and readying himself for the fight...  The wolf slowly left the cover of the treeline... it almost seemed to be smiling...

Brog and the wolf launched themselves at eachother almost simultaneously.  Equally matched in strength, the clash was grand.  Dwarf and wolf seemed to be one as they collided and rolled together.  Clad in heavy armor, the dwarf was no match for the wolf's dexterity, but Brog's sharp steel hungrily sought the wolf's flank nonetheless.  The wolf was unnaturally clever.  Using it's bulk to tire the dwarf, and always staying just out of reach of the axe.

The dance continued for what seemed to be an eternity.  The wolf waiting for the dwarf to misstep, then launching a new attach upon him.  The dwarf bracing against the wolf's bulk, desperately trying to land blows to weaken the wolf, striking with his fist when axe blows were impractical.  The solid blows from the dwarf's metal clad hands unsetting the wolf's balance only momentarily.  Brog makes ready to swing his axe, and the wolf lunges... Brog was learning a great deal from this fight however, and the swing was just a feint.  Using the momentum to reverse the swing, Brog brings the axe around to bear on the wolf's rear leg. snapping bone and cutting sinew in one solid blow.

The wolf falls to the ground, whining loudly.  Brog approaches the wolf, both snarling...

"Brog.... smasshess... gud..." He breathes heavily and brings the axe to bear on the neck of the wolf.....

As he finishes skinning the wolf, and taking what meat he can from the carcass, Brog hears a number of howls in the distance.  He can't help but notice he has lost a significant amount of daylight to this battle.  He hurriedly gathers the useful remains of the wolf and returns to the path.

Brog cannot help but laugh to himself, choking on the healing potion he's sipping, as he notices a small flutter bug land on the wolf's carcass.
