Title: Template renaming/description modifying for craftsmen
Post by: ILLY6666 on December 26, 2016, 05:16:22 AM
I recently thought of something I miss on PotM and that's the ability to rename items you craft.
I was thinking that the easiest way would be to allow only TEMPLATE items to be renamed/changed descriptions of.
That way, nothing can be changed past finalization and the mark of the craftsman would always remain.

Obviously guidelines could be provided for what's acceptable and not, but I would really love a feature like this.
I think it would very much add to the RP value of both Crafting and those who partake in such more personalized armors/weapons etc.

The dev team has tossed around some ideas for this before; I even mocked up a working dummy version at one point. I'll give this another look.

Yay! Pretty sure you'd make all the crafters happy!

That would be simply amazing!

Perhaps an item like a Maker's Mark could be sold at a Smith and a description of the mark could be given. The item then could be used on the template. So if you want a small description of a Celtic wolf for example this could be done. This would add alot of flavor I think and rp of someone saying yes I had my armor made by the late great dwarven smith etc.

At the very least, this would be amazing. Though I'd love to define the weapon's description beyond even that.

Think of the fun that could be had selling something made by a now closured character. It would start rp and perhaps add to the price. "Yes it's true Fearghas made only three swords in his time and one of them is this here blade. [Shows the makers mark at the base of the blade] We won't soon ta see another of his kind"

Just a silly example

Working on a stamping system right now. A smith will be able to craft a Crafter's Stamp that will then be used to stamp any crafted goods.

You'll be able to write up to three letters on the stamp and depict an object/person on it.

Is it going to be just for smiths, or for any template for any craft? I would love to see this for at least shields and bows too, and preferably chitin and leather armor as well.

A smith will be needed to create the stamp in the first place but it then can be used for every craft (including smelting) except Enchanting and Gilding (to avoid branding the same item twice).

This sounds very cool...and makes me contemplate the laborious drudgery that is smithing again :)

(Though not as Will.)

This might make me play Valuril again just to have people with a fat stick figure with elf ears on their armor running around...
