Title: Beware Wolves Ahead
Post by: dark_majico on November 18, 2015, 09:31:43 AM
This is a minor thing that has always irked me but I haven't got around to posting it yet. The warning message just seems a little over the top, it's too wordy and sometimes less is more. I guess its the 'proceed with due caution and at own risk' along with everything else that seems a little too much like the message is repeating itself unnecessarily, and that wording seems wrong for a semi medi evil setting, it almost reads like a road sign or a warning written by a local council authority in a public park.

so what would you replace it with?
Title: Re: Beware Wolves Ahead

Something simpler like perhaps 'Danger, wolves'. Or 'Beware roaming wolves', or "Wolf territory ahead".

I stood and stared at that sign for about thirty real-life hours a week for most of last year. Long may it stand to bother others in the way it bothered me.

It turns out Arawn was the wolf to beware of all along.

I disagree on that Ophis, I was standing across him a worthy share of those 30 week hours, and he didn't seem like a threat at all. We even almost talked sometimes.

DON'T WOLVES
CROSS OUTSIDE

"Don't wolves cross outside" looks like it should have a question mark at the end.  :)

Instead of words, how about a picture, for the largely illiterate Barovian population -- a man being torn to pieces by a wolf, with a skull and crossbones above?

like with the stuff in the Port being written in French(High mordentish). this sign, and most signs in barovia, should be written in romanian(Balok).

Erm you meant archaic romanian right? Just to stay keep it IC, old English would be inappropriate and not enough IC!:P
Title: Re: Beware Wolves Ahead

Well if the sign was put there it was to warn outlanders because the barovians already know and don't need a sign. And by that reasoning it should be in common?

"Woofs" and an arrow pointing across the bridge.

you mean an arrow pointing up? or would the sign now be facing such a way that if it pointed left or right it would point across the bridge? These are very important things to consider

Post by: Pagliacci on December 25, 2015, 07:47:28 AM
Well has anyone actually seen where the wolves come from? They could air drop in, at which point an upward facing sign would be an important warning.

We know that Vlad controls the bats and the wolves (for they are children of the night). Therefore, it is only logical that the wolves are deployed using high altitude low drop bats.

So really what the sign should have is a picture of a wolf being carried by bats.

No, DMs are all advanced outlanders. We went and hit Y Y Y Y Y Y until all the advanced wolves were dead. We didn't want regular outlanders absorbing their technology.
